Bihar's election platter turns spicy with mutton parties in Shravan
Mutton Rogan Josh — that rich, aromatic Kashmiri delight made a surprise appearance in the central hall of the state assembly on Monday, the second Somwari.
The occasion? First day of the monsoon session before the state goes to polls.
The serving was enough to stir a political potboiler.
Leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav wasted no time. He accused the NDA leader of adopting a "double standard" over meat consumption.
"BJP MLAs relished mutton on Shravan Somwari (Monday). We have no objection to anyone's food choice, but the PM should not be 'selective' in his attacks.
While he finds it pleasing that his party leaders eat mutton during Shravan, he doesn't hesitate to attack opposition leaders even though they avoid non-vegetarian foods," Tejashwi posted on social media.
He also uploaded a video of the stall with "Mutton Rogan Josh" to highlight his point. The video has gone viral on social media.
The BJP reacted by saying that Tejashwi, being the leader of the opposition, should focus on the election looming large rather than watching who is eating what.

"Maybe the caterer also arranged for the mutton dish along with vegetarian food, but did Tejashwi only watch who ate the mutton?" state BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma said on Tuesday.
Mocking Tejashwi, Sharma said whether the leader of opposition should scan the CCTV images to find out who consumed what or focus on Bihar's development.
This isn't the first time mutton has made an entry in Shravan when majority Hindus turn vegetarian.
Last week, Union minister Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh triggered a similar row when he hosted a mutton party for his supporters in Lakhisarai, which is a part of his Munger Lok Sabha constituency. In a video that went viral, Lalan is heard saying that he arranged both "vegetarian and non-vegetarian" foods. Tejashwi again took a dig at Singh for hosting a mutton party during Shravan.
Earlier this month, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor arranged "biryani" for all those who came to hear his speech in Kishanganj district.
TV footage released later showed people crowding the food stalls and scrambling to get the food packets. But the party claims it was "vegetarian biryani" and not mutton.
Mutton had been the menu for controversy earlier also when RJD chief Lalu Prasad cooked a special mutton dish for Congress MP Rahul Gandhi at his daughter's residence in Delhi during Shrawan in 2023. The video of Lalu cooking mutton in a desi style and stirring in a pot went viral at that time, drawing sharp reactions from the NDA.
Later, Tejashwi and his ally, Muhesh Sahani, drew bitter criticisms from the NDA leader after both were caught on camera relishing fish during a chopper ride as part of the poll campaign during the LS elections. The NDA leaders targeted the duo, describing their acts as an "insult to sanatan" for relishing during "Navaratra". Later, Tejashwi clarified that they had eaten the non-vegetarian dish before the start of Navarata.

Suvendu Adhikari's convoy attacked: ‘Couldn't have happened without nod from TMC top brass'
The convoy of BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, was attacked, allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers, in Cooch Behar. The incident took place in Khagrabari in the afternoon. Adhikari was going to meet with the police superintendent over alleged incidents of party workers being targeted in the district, after securing an order from the Calcutta High Court. He was also scheduled to hold a party meeting there. TMC organised protests in 19 spots along the route of the convoy against'possible NRC (National Register of Citizens)' in Bengal, alleged harassment of migrant workers working outside the state, and disrespect to the Bengali language. TMC workers chanted 'Joy Bangla' slogans and waved block flags at the convoy. While the convoy was passing through the Khagrabari area, stones were pelted at the convoy, and cars were attacked with bamboo poles. Apart from the vehicle in which Adhikari and Nisith Pramanik were travelling, police cars were also damaged. 'TMC, under the leadership of Udayan Guha, has done this in the presence of police. They smashed the glass of even a bulletproof car with stones,' said Adhikari afterwards. #WATCH | Cooch Behar, West Bengal: The convoy of West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari was allegedly attacked in Cooch Behar, while he was on his way to the Superintendent of Police Office. More details awaited. — ANI (@ANI) August 5, 2025 'This is unacceptable. Our leader of the opposition was attacked by TMC goons. This could not have happened without a nod from the TMC top brass. Our state president has asked us to protest throughout Bengal; we will do it,' said Sukanta Majumder, the former state president and Lok Sabha MP. 'It is a pre-planned attack on us. We asked our security guards to remain calm. TMC is now desperate,' said Nisith Paramanik, a former Lok Sabha MP. Partha Pratim Roy, the TMC Cooch Behar district party president, said, 'Today, the people of Bengal and TMC workers showed black flags and protested against the BJP. Our workers engaged in a peaceful demonstration. No one was involved in violence. BJP has staged the incident to get sympathy.' Udayan Guha, the Dinhata MLA and North Bengal Development Minister, said, 'People protested against the BJP's aim to bring in NRC in Bengal. Whoever is trying to do such things, to insult the Bengali language, harass our migrant workers outside the state, will face the wrath of the people.'

Anupamaa actor Rupali Ganguly demands National Award for TV actors, hopes Smriti Irani's return can help: ‘We worked the hardest'
After National Film Awards were announced last week, there has been a lot of chatter around some of the winners — including Shah Rukh Khan as the Best Actor, The Kerala Story director Sudipto Sen, and even the Best Supporting Actress award to Urvashi for Christo Tomy's Malayalam film Ullozhukku. Now, television actor Rupali Ganguly, best known for her titular role in Anupamaa, has pointed out how there should be National Awards for the TV industry too. 'There are National Awards for everyone, from content creators to regional films. But there's nothing for TV artistes. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, others had the advantage of delaying their shooting schedules and not step out of their homes, but we kept working,' said Ganguly. In the interview to Viral Bhayani, she added, 'When a film star works continuously for two days, it makes headlines. But no one talked about how we, the TV artists, worked non-stop from 6 am to 6 pm during the pandemic. I request the government to consider us also. We work very hard. It'll be nice to have some validation.' Ganguly also pointed out how BJP member and former I&B Minister Smriti Irani's return to television can help accelerate the process of institutionalizing and organizing National Awards for the TV industry. 'I'm so glad that Smriti ji has come back. It's such a validation for a person of that stature to come back to the medium. It'll make a difference. It may help us go in that direction because we need National Awards for TV actors too,' added Ganguly. Over the past couple of weeks, fans of Anupamaa have been pitting Ganguly against Irani as the latter returns in the iconic role of Tulsi Virani in the reboot of Ekta Kapoor's seminal daily soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. On the day of the latter's premiere, channel StarPlus released a crossover promo in which Anupamaa is seen video calling Tulsi and welcoming her back to the small screen. Ekta also dismissed the comparison between Anupamaa and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. 'I felt that was in such bad taste. She [Rupali] is such a big star. Anupamaa the show, the creator Raajan (Shahi)… has done what nobody else could do in the last seven years. They will continue to be number 1. They should continue to be number 1,' Kapoor told Brut. NDA Passes Resolution Saluting Armed Forces' Valour, Reaffirms United Stand Against Terror
'Who Runs the House, You or Amit Shah?' Kharge Attacks Speaker In Rajya Sabha, Rijiju Responds The Rajya Sabha turned into a political battleground today as the Monsoon Session witnessed fiery exchanges between the ruling NDA and the Opposition. Congress President and LoP Mallikarjun Kharge stunned the House by asking, 'Are you running the House or is Amit Shah?', directly addressing Deputy Chairman Harivansh Singh. The NDA hit back hard, with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju calling Kharge's remarks baseless and misleading, especially over the explosive allegation that CISF personnel were deployed inside the Upper House. Rijiju clarified that only Marshals were present, not security forces. Meanwhile, the Opposition demanded an urgent debate on the Bihar Electoral Roll Revision (SIR), intensifying pressure on the Centre. Lok Sabha too was adjourned following an uproar. With political tempers flaring and Parliament on edge, the battle for narrative and control continues inside India's most powerful democratic forum.#rajyasabha #parliamentmonsoonsession #mallikarjunkharge #amitshah #kirenrijiju #cisfcontroversy #ndavsopposition #indiaoppositionprotest #monsoonsession2025 #biharelectoralrolls #harivanshnarayansingh #indiapolitics #indianparliament #congressvsbjp #parliamentuproar #india #breakingnews #trending #bharat #toi #toibharat #indianews 2.3K views | 1 hour ago
