Huge pop star's mum makes surprise appearance in Friends in unearthed clip
Long before her daughter was selling out arenas around the world, Maggie Baird was an in-demand actress with roles on shows including The X Files, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Charmed and Friends.
Now 66, Maggie is also known as mum to What Was I Made For? singer Billie Eilish, 23, and her singer-songwriter brother Finneas, 27.
Colorado-born Maggie made her TV debut in 1981 in American soap opera Another World, before stepping onto the Broadway stage and becoming a member and teacher of an improv comedy troupe in Los Angeles, working alongside stars such as Will Ferrell and Melissa McCarthy.
In 1999 she appeared in Friends, playing casting director number two in an episode called The One Where Joey Loses His Insurance.
The season six episode features Joey auditioning for a dog food advert while trying to hide his pain caused by an untreated hernia.
When a clip featuring Maggie and Matt LeBlanc resurfaced on social media recently, some people accused Billie of being a 'nepo baby' - and it didn't go down well with Billie's brother Finneas.
Following comments such as "Another celebrity helped by Hollywood's roots lol" and "She's been part of Hollywood since her youth", Finneas addressed the topic from his own official Instagram account.
He wrote: "Ah yes, the classic, 1 day of work on 1 episode of friends to make someone rich and famous- the whole gag of this video is none of you had any idea at all who she was."
As well as releasing her own country music album and having larger roles in Bones and Six Feet Under, Maggie has also worked as a voice actress in computer games such as the EverQuest II series, Final Fantasy XIII, and the Saints Row series.
Billie and Finneas' dad Patrick O'Connell, 67, was also an actor, with credits on Broadway as well as on TV series The West Wing and NYPD Blue.
Addressing what it was like witnessing her parents try to succeed in such a fiercely competitive industry, Birds of a Feather singer Billie once said : "For years, I saw my parents beat up over the fact that they didn't have it better."
She continued: "My dad is the best actor I've ever seen. And my mom can do all these voices and characters – she's incredible. So I wish they'd had more recognition."
As well as working, Maggie and Patrick also homeschooled Billie and Finneas, and Billie has since said how beneficial it was to her growing up. "I learned how to do math by cooking with my mom,' she said. 'I learned, like, how to build sh*t from my dad."

This hilarious star-studded musical by Melbourne Theatre Company has scored major awards on Broadway
Take a heist, an out-of-the-ordinary coming-of-age tale and an unexpected love story – throw them all together and you've got Kimberly Akimbo: A Musical. Produced by Melbourne Theatre Company with State Theatre Company South Australia, this production is set to warm the hearts of both theatregoers and first-timers alike. Kimberly Akimbo's life isn't what you'd call normal… But then again, whose is? She's got a dropkick dad, a narcissistic mum and a criminal aunt. She's also kind of born with a rare genetic disease where she ages four times faster than her teenage peers. Follow the 16 going on 60 year old in 1999 New Jersey as she navigates high school dramas and a debatably illegal get-rich-quick scheme. The production boasts some major Australian names. Starring as Kimberly is Aussie musical royalty Marina Prior (Les Misérables The Arena Spectacular, The Phantom of the Opera). She's joined by Christie Whelan Browne (Singin' in the Rain, Muriel's Wedding the Musical) and Australian Idol sweetheart Casey Donovan (& Juliet, Sister Act). During its time on Broadway, Kimberly Akimbo: A Musical racked up five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Now it forms part of Melbourne Theatre Company's 2025 season, and even better, showgoers under 30 years old can score preview tickets for just $37.50.

Dwyane Wade shares what he's learned as a broadcaster ahead of NBA on Prime Gig
Dwyane Wade is excited to be part of a new, star-studded team that will help Amazon kick off its relationship with the NBA this fall. The Basketball Hall of Famer will serve as an in-game and studio analyst when Prime Video launches its inaugural season of NBA coverage in October. He joins a roster of analysts for NBA on Prime that also includes his former Miami Heat teammate Udonis Haslem; fellow Basketball Hall of Famers Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki; and women's basketball legend Candace Parker, whom he refers to in a interview as his 'sister.' 'When you retire, you're not a part of a team anymore. You're not in a locker room like that anymore. So it'd be good,' he says of his role on the NBA on Prime crew. Wade looks forward to engaging in conversations on air with other former players whom he's faced on the court and those who have 'been in the same battle' as competitors in the NBA. The three-time NBA champion is also eager to announce games courtside, as he did at the 2024 Paris Olympics for NBC. 'I like just the natural reaction, being able to be the mind of the listeners, in a sense, being able to bring them to the game with understanding what they're about to watch or what they're watching,' he explains. 'I had a great time doing that with Noah Eagle in the Olympics, and so I want to continue that as well. So those things excite me.' Wade called U.S. men's basketball games at the Paris Olympics alongside Eagle, the son of popular veteran sportscaster Ian Eagle, who's been named one of NBA on Prime's play-by-play announcers. The recent TODAY with Jenna & Friends guest co-host, who previously served as a studio analyst for TNT before his work at the Olympics, praises Noah Eagle as a broadcast partner, saying he 'carried us.' He adds that there were lessons he learned from his experience at the Olympics that he can take with him into his new gig with Prime Video. 'I didn't know when I first sat down next to Noah, I didn't understand how to bring what's happening to light in 15 seconds in these sound bites, not overtalking, not giving too much, not talking over,' he says. 'We could talk a lot of basketball talk sometimes, and the fans probably don't understand what that means because we're talking about things that's locker room stuff. And so, kind of making it in a way where everyone can understand it.' Wade also emphasizes the 'power of silence': allowing viewers to hear and absorb the sounds of the game and the crowd without commentators' chatter to distract them. Similar to other players turned analysts, Wade's approach to the job is simple. 'People want to hear the way that you see the game and how you play the game, how you prepare for the game. Give them stories. Give them these little insights that they would love to have. And so, just trying to find these moments to be able to give them that locker room insight, give them that road-trip insight, give them that in-the-huddle insight.' Prime Video will kick off the first season of its 11-year deal with the NBA on Oct. 24 with an opening-week doubleheader.

Trisha Paytas makes waves with unique name of baby no. 3
Trisha Paytas has revealed the aquatic-themed name of her third child — Aquaman Moses. Some fans had guessed Triton, Percy Jackson or Splash, and they weren't that far off. The celebrity YouTuber selected Aquaman Moses for her newborn son, she announced during an episode of her podcast 'Just Trish' on July 22. Paytas welcomed baby number three on July 12. The influencer already has two daughters with her husband Moses Hacmon, Malibu Barbie, 2, and Elvis, 1. She revealed the name by unzipping a hoodie sweatshirt to reveal a pink, bedazzled Aquaman t-shirt. 'It's Aquaman, and I said it loud and proud in the C-section room,' Paytas said. Paytas gained fame for her YouTube career, and made her Broadway debut earlier this year. The celebrity has inspired conspiracy theories online — the 'Trisha Paytas Baby Curse' —with people speculating that her kids are reincarnated celebrities. During her podcast, Paytas explained her connection to the name Aquaman Moses. She said she and Hacmon wanted a water-related name. She added that anyone who has known her for a while knows she has loved the Aquaman franchise and said she was 'shocked' more people didn't guess the name. She added the name felt fated, as she noticed that a doctor's office she recently visited had an Aquaman poster hanging on the wall. She also shared that she has always loved the Aquaman comic book character and the 'Justice League' movies. When she rewatched the movie with Hacmon, Paytas said, the decision was sealed. 'I really fell in love when we rewatched Aquaman,' Paytas said. 'Watching the movie we got so many goosebumps,' Hacmon agreed. 'It was like watching our baby.' Leading up to the name announcement, Paytas ruled out fan's name guesses such as Poseidon, Nemo and Atlantis. She listed the names she considered but didn't select, including Watersnake, Waterworld, Aladdin and Papermate. In a July 8 TikTok video, Paytas also said she considered the names Lemon, Squeezie, Squooshie and Rainbow Sherbert. Paytas also opened up about her birth story, which she described as 'surprising and traumatic.' Paytas shared during the podcast episode that her third pregnancy was a 'the shock of the century,' and while she was 'thankful,' it was 'dangerous' for her. She said she plans not to have any more children. 'I did get my tubes out' during the C-section, she shared. 'I feel so good about the decision,' Paytas said. She said she chose to share the choice with followers because of how often people ask when she will have her next baby. 'Don't ask about people's next babies,' Paytas added. 'Because there's a lot of reasons people might not have babies, so be cautious with your words.'
