Apple iPhone 17 Series display leaks: Expected to come with 3 major changes

Time of India09-07-2025
iPhone 17 Series display leaks: iPhone 17 series launch is expected this September, igniting excitement with Apple's most significant display overhaul in years . Rumoured to include four models—iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and a sleek new 17 Air—the lineup is poised to expand screen sizes across the range, introduce slimmer bezels, and bring ProMotion (120 Hz displays) to every device.
Apple is also working on a redesigned Dynamic Island UI, a refined camera layout, and the powerful A19 chipset, promising both aesthetic flair and performance gains. With rumours pointing to a larger standard model and lasting color updates like Sky Blue, the iPhone 17 series appears ready to redefine the iPhone experience. Stay tuned for the full reveal this fall.
iPhone 17 Series launch date (Expected)
Apple usually follows a consistent launch schedule, and the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be revealed between September 11-13, 2025. Pre-orders could begin immediately after the official unveiling, and if Apple sticks to its traditional timeline, the iPhone 17 series may go on sale around September 19, 2025.
iPhone 17 Series display leaks
All iPhone 17 models have thinner bezels
Apple has only provided incredibly tiny bezels on the Pro models up to this point. However, this year's four anticipated models—including the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air—may have thinner display margins. This would be a change from the iPhone 16 series, which only had smaller bezels on the Pro and Pro Max.
According to reports, the normal iPhone 17 will also have a 6.3-inch display, similar to the iPhone 16 Pro from the previous year. Apple may find it simpler to provide thinner bezels on all models as a result of this modification.
It could be possible to revamp Dynamic Island
Changes to the Dynamic Island are also mentioned in the leak, and they could affect all iPhone 17 models. Although specifics are unknown, the reference to "UI" raises the possibility that Apple will modify the software's appearance or functionality instead of implementing a significant hardware overhaul.
A smaller Dynamic Island on the Pro Max model was alluded to in earlier leaks, perhaps as Apple pushes toward under-display Face ID in the future.
Support for ProMotion across all models
At the moment, Apple's Pro iPhones only come with 120Hz ProMotion screens. With the iPhone 17 series, that might change. It is anticipated that all four models would include LTPO OLED displays, which enable more fluid scrolling and improved battery life. Although it's uncertain if Apple will add always-on capabilities to non-Pro models, these displays may also enable it.

Trump's Tariff On India To Do Little To Upset IPhone Manufacturing Plans

Bengaluru: President Donald Trump's 25 per cent tariffs on Indian goods will do little to slow the role of the Asian country as a key hub for manufacturing iPhones, even when it means more expensive smartphones for US consumers, analysts and industry executives said. Apple has realigned its India exports to almost exclusively serve the US market, with nearly all the $3.2 billion-worth of iPhones exported by Foxconn from India going to the United States between March and May. It's "too early to say" if recent events or future changes in Trump's stance will alter Apple's manufacturing plans in India, an industry executive familiar with Apple's strategy said. "These plans are made with a longer window." Trump on Wednesday imposed a 25 per cent tariff on goods imported from the country, effective Friday, a move that sent jitters across India Inc., though some view it as a negotiation tactic. For Apple, India is now central to its strategy of diversifying manufacturing beyond China, where geopolitical pressures have pushed it to consider alternative bases. India supplied 71 per cent of all iPhones sold in the US market between April and June, up from 31 per cent a year earlier, driven by a corresponding decline in shipments from China, according to Counterpoint Research. Despite the newly announced tariffs, manufacturing iPhones in India would continue to remain cost-competitive, with expenses lower than when Apple began production there eight years ago, narrowing the cost gap with China, analysts said. Factors like growing local component availability, federal government incentives, and wages nearly half those in China have positioned India as one of the top two iPhone-producing countries, alongside China. "Making supply chain adjustments, particularly with new iPhone models nearing release, is unlikely due to the complex factors involved. It is expected to be business as usual, especially with a resilient supply chain like Apple," said Tarun Pathak, a research director at Counterpoint. Trump's Ire Trump has repeatedly targeted Apple for making US-sold iPhones outside the country by threats, including company-specific tariffs, but hurdles like high costs, technological shortcomings, and legal issues have stood in the way. In May, he recalled telling Apple CEO Tim Cook: "we put up with all the plants you built in China for years ... we are not interested in you building in India, India can take care of themselves". Apple would rather absorb the higher costs for iPhones sold in the United States than slam the brakes on its India expansion, said Faisal Kawoosa, chief analyst at Indian research firm Techarc. "Given that sales in the US are largely operator-driven and sold as part of plans, it might mean adding a few more dollars to monthly plans rather than giving an upfront blow to consumers".

iPhone 17 series launch preview: From design, colours to specs, price and more

We are under two months away from the launch of the iPhone 17 series, and if the rumours and leaks are anything to go by, Apple is planning some noticeable changes this year. While the September launch is still a few weeks away, we already have a pretty fair idea of what to expect, not only in terms of design and specifications, but also pricing, colour options and lineup. One of the biggest changes could be the introduction of a brand-new model called the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to replace the current Plus model. advertisementHere's a detailed preview of the entire iPhone 17 lineup, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro 17Starting with the standard iPhone 17, this device is expected to offer solid improvements over the iPhone 16 while keeping its position as the entry point in Apple's flagship range. It will reportedly feature a 6.27-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Yes, you read that right. We may finally get to see a 120Hz higher refresh rate display on a non-Pro iPhone. Now, whether this is ProMotion or not remains to be seen, and if it is, there's a high chance it could also feature support for always-on functionality. Under the hood, the iPhone 17 could be powered by Apple's new A19 chip, paired with 8GB RAM. Storage is expected to start at 128GB. A big upgrade is coming to the front camera as well, with a new 24-megapixel sensor set to replace the existing 12-megapixel one. On the back, it should carry two cameras, stacked vertically like the iPhone 16, though specific improvements in image quality are still under terms of battery, there aren't any confirmed numbers yet, but rumours suggest that while the 17 Pro Max will see a boost, the base model may stick with a similar capacity to last year. The iPhone 17 will likely come in a new set of colours, including Steel Grey, Purple, Light Blue and Green alongside the usual Black and White. Prices are expected to start at $799 in the US, which roughly translates to Rs 70, 17 AirReplacing the iPhone 16 Plus, the new iPhone 17 Air has been the talk of the town ever since it first appeared in the rumour mill. This model is all about design — thinner, lighter, and more elegant. Multiple reports point to a thickness of just 5.5mm. And, to keep it sturdy, Apple may use a titanium frame instead of aluminium. That will help reduce bending and maintain a premium the slim form factor comes at a cost. The battery size will reportedly drop to around 2,800mAh — over 20 per cent less than the iPhone 16 Plus. That might be a concern for users who prioritise battery display will be a large 6.65-inch LTPO OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and always-on support. It's expected to run the A19 chip and come with 8GB RAM. On the back, the iPhone 17 Air will reportedly have a single 48-megapixel camera, and the same new 24-megapixel front camera found across the series. There's also a minor design change — the front camera could shift to the left side of the Face ID sensors. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to start in the US for $899, which is roughly Rs 78, 17 Pro and 17 Pro MaxadvertisementThe Pro models are always the showstoppers, and this year looks no different. Both the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are expected to feature the new A19 Pro chip and 12GB RAM, with storage starting at 256GB. The OLED screens are rumoured to be 6.27 inches (17 Pro) and 6.86 inches (17 Pro Max) — the same as the iPhone 16 Pro models — featuring 120Hz refresh rates and better peak brightness. These displays are likely to be protected by a new anti-glare and scratch-resistant glass developed in collaboration with standout design change is the new camera island, a rectangular setup that stretches across the width of the phone. The iPhone 17 Pro Max may also feature a smaller Dynamic Island cutout, though opinions differ on whether that change will make it to the final rear camera system is where the Pros really shine. The iPhone 17 Pro is rumoured to feature a 48-megapixel primary rear camera, paired with a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 3.5x zoom (and 7x crop zoom), and a new 24-megapixel front camera. The 17 Pro Max could go even further with an 8x telephoto zoom. Apple is also said to be working on a dedicated camera app for professionals, as well as a new camera control button on the top edge of the terms of charging, a new MagSafe upgrade might push wireless charging speeds up to 50W, double what the iPhone 16 supports. Apple may also include a vapour chamber cooling system to help with heat management during gaming or heavy iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are expected to start at $1,099 and $1,199 in the US, which roughly translates to Rs 96,300 and Rs 1,05,000, from these details, the entire iPhone 17 series will ship with iOS 26, which introduces a refreshed visual design called Liquid Glass. It's meant to bring a glass-like effect to UI elements across apps and menus. Beyond looks, several useful features are coming: Call Screening, Hold Assist, AI-powered Maps, and group chat polls in course, not all iOS 26 features were shown at WWDC 2025. Apple is likely saving a few surprises for the iPhone 17 launch tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on the upcoming iPhone 17 series.- Ends
