Xiaomi And Leica To Stop Making Branded Camera For Phones? What Reports Say
Xiaomi has launched phones with Leica-engineered cameras in the last few years but it seems that tie up could soon end.
Xiaomi and Leica have been working together on phone cameras for the last few years and the results have been good. However, a new report this week claims Xiaomi could be looking to go solo and end its partnership with Leica in the near future.
The details suggest Xiaomi is now confident of developing its own imaging ID that will deliver premium quality without needing a Leica badge and expertise to make it work. The rumour has come via a post by tipster Digital Chat Station from China without actually naming the brand.
Xiaomi signed up with Leica which was done to give it the premium outlook in the market and it worked to some extent. However, the company's actual focus in the mid-range segment faced challenges as pricing became an issue. Now, if the Leica branding and royalty payments go away, Xiaomi can deliver high-quality cameras across its range.
The tipster even suggests Redmi and Poco could benefit from this strategy and Xiaomi could really up the ante with its hardware production cost now being more manageable. We don't know how much the Leica branding actually costs Xiaomi but going by other arrangements, it surely costs them something significant.
Building On It
Leica had previously worked with Huawei for the P-series that were launched globally. And once the duo decided to go separate ways, the China-based brand had developed its own sensors to take forward the legacy without a heavy badge.
Vivo is the other brand that has relied on Zeiss Optics to develop some of the best imaging solutions with the X-series. These collaborations are not meant to last forever, and their close association gives them deeper access to the knowledge and the skilled workforce involved in the business.

Telangana HC clears businessman in Rs 40L Deccan Club fraud case in Secunderabad
HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court has quashed criminal proceedings against a West Bengal-based businessman who was named as one of the prime accused in a financial fraud case involving the Deccan Club in Secunderabad. The case, registered in 2017 at Tukaramgate police station, revolved around the alleged misappropriation of approximately 40 lakh by former staff members of the club, including the system administrator and the accountant. The accused were alleged to have manipulated the club's accounting software to divert cash payments made by members, effectively siphoning off funds that were never reflected in the club's accounts. The businessman, who had no official or managerial role in the club, was named in the chargesheet solely on the basis of a confession by another accused, who claimed he had received a portion of the embezzled funds. Accordingly, the judge quashed all charges against the petitioner and closed the pending miscellaneous applications related to the matter. According to the prosecution, the petitioner allegedly used the diverted money to purchase heavy vehicles. However, the defense argued that the petitioner was wrongfully implicated, and there was no direct link between him and the financial operations of the club. The fraud came to light during an internal audit, which exposed how the accused insiders cancelled original cash payment entries in the system and re-entered them as credit or debit card transactions. This tactic created a false reconciliation of accounts while ensuring that actual cash never reached the club's coffers.

Space Capsule Carrying Ashes Of Over 160 Crashes Into Pacific Ocean
A space capsule carrying the ashes of 166 people crashed into the Pacific Ocean after two successful orbits around the Earth. According to the New York Post, a German startup called The Exploration Company (TEC) launched the Nyx capsule on June 23 as part of the program "Mission Possible". Its cargo included the remains of 166 people, whose ashes were sent into orbit through Celestis, a Texas-based space burial company. However, things didn't go exactly to plan as the capsule encountered an "issue" after its launch and plummeted to Earth, dropping into the Pacific Ocean. In a statement, the company said that the capsule was "launched successfully, powered the payloads nominally in-orbit, stabilized itself after separation with the launcher, re-entered and re-established communication after black out," but then things went off script. As per the New York Post, the company stated that it "lost communication" with the capsule "a few minutes before splash down." It added that it is still "investigating the root cause". "We apologize to all our clients who entrusted us with their payloads," the company said in a statement in the letter. "We all hoped for full success; partial success is often part of the road for those who take risks and push boundaries to change the world positively. I take full responsibility and present my apologies to our customers for not achieving full success," said TEC CEO Helene Huby in a LinkedIn Post. Celestis, a Texas-based space burial company which was part of the mission, stated that this was the first Celestis mission in which ashes were "designed to return from orbit". However, it noted that due to the crash into the Pacific Ocean, the ashes were dispersed at sea. As a result of this, they believe that they would "not be able to recover or return the flight capsules aboard." "Though we currently believe that we cannot return the flight capsules, we hope families will find some peace in knowing their loved ones were part of a historic journey, launched into space, orbited Earth, and are now resting in the vastness of the Pacific, akin to a traditional and honored sea scattering," the company said in a statement, according to People. Notably, ashes weren't the only thing on board the space capsule. Cannabis plant matter and seeds launched as part of a citizen science project called Martian Grow were also on board the capsule, per the outlet.
