Buckingham Palace always keeps us on our toes.
The royal palace often shares surprise photos of the family on their official Instagram, but their latest post is one we didn't see coming—a picture of King Charles's brother, The Duke of Edinburgh, who has been in Canada to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the PEI Regiment. Serving as the official Colonel-in-Chief, the Duke looked spiffy in a grey checkered suit as he met with members of Canada's military and policemen, pet horses and enjoyed a boat ride that offered stunning views of the city.
The event-filled action didn't stop there for King Charles, as, according to the palace, he joined a Freedom of the City parade in Charlottetown, met with the Abegweit First Nation and took part in an education forum for his International Award, which he established as an organization to challenge young people to find their purpose, passion and place in the world. And that was just for Prince Edward Island!
The Duke of Edinburgh also made a stop in Toronto, where he celebrated Canada's military and police services with visits to the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, HMCS York, CFB Trenton, and the Toronto Police Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force, and concluded his trip in Ottawa, which saw him joining the Canada Day celebrations, and, as Honorary Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, visiting the Musical Ride stables. The Duke's charitable initiatives certainly didn't go unnoticed, with one commenter writing, "The Duke of Edinburgh does brilliant work for the family. HRH is a dutiful and kind man, and it's always amazing to see more of what he's been doing," and another adding, "Dutiful humble Duke who has been rewarded in titles and our respect for his years of service."
This visit to Canada follows the royal's formal induction into the Royal Society of Edinburgh, which is also described as an Honorary Fellow of "Scotland's National Academy."The Duke was inducted by the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) president, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, and said in his address to the RSE Fellows and members of the Young Academy of Scotland, "I am proud to join and recognize this institution's rich history and its unwavering commitment to the advancement of knowledge for good, and it has been wonderful to learn about the breadth of this work today."
A great week for The Duke of Edinburgh.

In pictures: Princess of Wales, Elton John and Mick Jagger at King's state banquet for Macron

The Princess of Wales and celebrities attended the King's star-studded state banquet on Tuesday, where Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. On the first day of Macron's state visit, King Charles gave a toast in French and said the three-day trip was another chance to "celebrate a deep and enduring friendship". "What's possibly the most remarkable thing is the way in which the speciality of one country is part of the story of the other," the monarch said. "For centuries, our citizens have admired one another. We've made each other laugh, and we've imitated one another." After the King's speech, Mr Macron told him France had a "real affection for your mother" Queen Elizabeth II, adding he believed the feeling was "reciprocal". "She was your queen," he said. "To us, she was the Queen." He capped off his speech - which repeated his calls for closer relations that he made earlier in the Palace of Westminster - by saying: "In honour of the United Kingdom, of this entente amico that unites our two fraternal peoples in an unwavering alliance. "Long live the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland! Long live France!" The Princess of Wales also made her first appearance at a state banquet in almost two years, sitting next to the French president. She last made an appearance at a grand royal dinner in November 2023 in honour of the South Korean president. It comes after she opened up about her "rollercoaster" cancer recovery last week. Also in attendance were Sir Mick Jagger, frontman of The Rolling Stones, who was joined by his fiancee Melanie Hamrick, and Sir Elton John, who was accompanied by his husband David Furnish. Read more from Sky News: Meanwhile, it was announced that the Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the Norman conquest of England, will return to the UK for the first time in more than 900 years, and will feature in an exhibition from September 2026 to July 2027. Mr Macron joked ahead of the state banquet that negotiations to bring the 11th-century artwork back to the UK took longer "than all the Brexit tests". Talks had started as early as 2018.

King Charles Posts Stunning Photo of Himself Standing All Alone in the Rain

When it comes to the royal family, there's never a shortage of iconic photos. Whether it's Prince William and Kate Middleton looking stunning or Queen Camilla and Duchess Sophie serving timeless elegance, the royal archives are basically a style goldmine. King Charles is no exception and Buckingham Palace just dropped another stunning photo of the monarch that has royal fans talking. The post, shared on Monday, July 7, marked the 20th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings in London. To honor the day, King Charles shared a heartfelt written message (complete with his signature) but it's the second slide that truly stood out. The image shows the monarch standing alone in a dark suit during his visit to the memorial site. While others linger in the background, the photo captures a quiet, emotional moment that really speaks volumes. 'Today, as we mark twenty years since the tragic events of 7th July 2005, my heartfelt thoughts and special prayers remain with all those whose lives were forever changed on that terrible Summer's day,' Charles wrote. 'While the horrors will never be forgotten, we may take comfort from the way such events rally communities together in solidarity, solace and determination. It is this spirit of unity that has helped London, and our nation, to heal,' he continued. 'As we remember those we lost, let us therefore use this 20th anniversary to reaffirm our commitment to building a society where people of all faiths and backgrounds can live together with mutual respect and understanding, always standing firm against those who would seek to divide us.' Just last week, royal watchers were treated to another round of King Charles content—this time in a lighter mood. During the historic Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, he looked especially dapper in a beige blazer, matching trousers, and a bold green-and-red striped tie. The caption read: 'Today, the historic Ceremony of the Keys took place in the Gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Dating back centuries, this tradition symbolises Edinburgh welcoming its monarch.' Want all the latest entertainment news sent right to your inbox? Click here. Though Queen Elizabeth II passed in 2022, her memory and legacy continue to be felt. She comes up in family members' anecdotes and Instagram posts; her final diary entry, discovered last year, showed her dedication to the very end. This month, her son, now King Charles III, found another way to honor his mother during a trip to Scotland. WPA Pool/Pool/Getty Images The king, accompanied by Queen Camilla, is currently on a royal tour of Scotland. In the past several days, the pair have been busy. The queen hosted a reception for the Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland, meeting nurses, supporters and volunteers. Additionally, the royal couple hosted an 8,000-person garden party at Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh—among numerous other engagements. However, the visit to St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh may prove to be the most meaningful. AARON CHOWN/Contributor/Getty Images Images of the king and queen show them standing solemnly before a black memorial stone. "ER lay here 12-13 September 2022," it reads. The church was Queen Elizabeth's final resting place in Scotland after her passing, where many mourners came to pay respects. The royal family's Instagram account also shared a series of images honoring the late monarch, including some throwbacks. The first image shows a younger queen at the 1977 opening of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, followed by a 2010 snap of Her Late Majesty at the Thistle Service, all smiles. What a sweet way to remember such a legendary queen. Want all the latest royal news sent right to your inbox? Subscribe here.
