Early property tax rebate: Date extended till July 31

Time of India2 days ago

New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) extended the deadline for the 10% early property tax filing rebate until July 31. Property owners can now receive the 10% rebate by making their tax payments before the new deadline.
Previously, the deadline was June 30. The extension was granted following a standing committee meeting, where concerns were raised about technical issues affecting the corporation's property tax portal, which prevented many users from accessing the system. The announcement was made by standing committee Chairperson, Satya Sharma.
Besides the 10% rebate for advance payment of taxes, other rebates given to senior citizens, women, etc., will also continue until July 31. The civic body earlier claimed to intensify camps with RWAs and take other measures to increase tax collection. MCD established a property tax collection target of Rs 4,000 crore for 2025-26. There are approximately 13 lakh taxpayers, and the civic body is also taking measures to bring more taxpayers under the tax net.

Criminal cases will be registered against Mathavallis: Abdul Aziz

Nellore: WaQF Board Chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz reaffirmed the coalition government's commitment to protecting Waqf Board properties, warning that criminal cases will be filed against board members (Mutawallis) found responsible for illegally selling Waqf properties. Speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on Saturday, Aziz announced that an ongoing inquiry into the sale of Waqf properties will lead to strict action against guilty members. 'Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is resolute about safeguarding Waqf properties, and there will be no compromise,' he stated. Aziz highlighted that the Central government halted funding to the Waqf Board due to the previous YSRCP government's failure to submit utilisation certificates for Rs 386 crore. He noted that the issue has been raised with Chief Minister Naidu, who is addressing it with the Central government. The Chairman announced the formation of a Rent Review Committee (RRC) to manage rents from approximately 1,300 Waqf Board shops. To address issues like property sales and rent disputes, future Waqf Board meetings will be held across all districts, moving away from the earlier practice of convening only in Vijayawada. Aziz also revealed that the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) applied to establish an MSME Park at Mallayapalem village in Guntur mandal. The Waqf Board decided to lease the land long-term to APIIC instead of permanently transferring it. Additionally, Rs 1.5 crore has been allocated for the development of Barashahid Dargah in Vijayawada, with further funds designated for the development of Kasumur and AS Pet Dargahs. Waqf Board Director SK Nasir stated that rental income will support the education of underprivileged Muslim students, their marriages, and the state government's P-4 initiative.

Telangana sets sights on Rs 9k crore youth self-employment scheme: Rajiv Yuva Vikasam rollout likely soon; govt faces fund crunch, banks wary over defaulters

HYDERABAD: After disbursing ₹9,000 crore to farmers under the Rythu Bharosa scheme in nine days, the Congress govt is now preparing to launch its next major welfare initiative-Rajiv Yuva Vikasam-to support youth self-employment ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy has directed deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka to begin groundwork for the scheme, which is estimated to cost Rs 9,000 crore. Raising this amount poses a challenge, especially as the state govt recently cleared Rs 180 crore in pending bills of govt employees and is preparing to pay one pending DA instalment along with June salaries by July 1-an additional burden of Rs 200 crore. You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad The scheme saw an overwhelming response when applications were invited, with over 16 lakh youth applying. Originally scheduled for launch on June 2, the rollout was postponed to allow for a larger budget-increased from Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 9,000 crore-and better preparation. One of the key hurdles is finalising eligibility guidelines. The govt has already held preliminary talks with banks for loan linkage, but officials say the process is complicated by a significant number of applicants who are loan defaulters. Bankers are reportedly hesitant to approve fresh loans in such cases. However, finance department officials remain confident that a resolution will be reached in the final round of discussions with bankers. Official sources said the aim is to provide flexible support based on individual needs, ensuring youth from all socio-economic backgrounds, especially SC, ST, BC, minority, and EBC/EWS communities, can benefit. The govt is also debating whether to restrict eligibility to one member per family. To mobilise funds for the scheme, the state is reportedly exploring options such as land sales. Meanwhile, mandal-level committees, led by mandal parishad development officers, have been formed to scrutinise applications and select beneficiaries. These committees also include representatives from various welfare departments and local bankers.

Global developments, FII activity among 7 cues to drive Dalal Street action this week

Markets ended their five-week-long consolidation phase, buoyed by improving global cues, receding geopolitical risks, and a noticeable pickup in foreign institutional investor (FII) buying during the latter half of the week. After a hesitant start, momentum built during midweek as overall sentiment turned more constructive. ADVERTISEMENT With tensions between Iran and Israel showing signs of easing, global risk appetite improved, driving indices higher. Consequently, benchmark indices closed the week near their highs, with the Nifty settling at 25,637.80 and the Sensex at 84,058.90. Sectorally, the market breadth tilted positive with most NSE indices in the green. Nifty Oil & Gas outshone peers with a 1.19% uptick, followed by Nifty Infrastructure and Nifty Energy, which climbed 1.07% and 1%, respectively. PSU Banks, Pharma, Metals, and Media also posted moderate gains, rising between 0.4% and 0.7%. Financial heavyweights saw mild traction, with Nifty Bank and Nifty Private Bank edging up 0.41% and 0.32%, respectively. On the flip side, Nifty Realty emerged as the biggest drag, slipping 1.55%, while IT and Consumer Durables sectors witnessed mild profit-taking. Meanwhile, market volatility cooled further, with India VIX declining 1.9% to 12.36, signaling a more stable undertone. 'Index has formed a sizable bull candle with a higher high and higher low signaling continuation of the up move. Index in the process on expected lines closed firmly above the last 6 weeks range (25,200-24,500), signaling extension of the positive momentum,' said a note by Bajaj Broking. 'Going ahead, index to maintain overall positive bias and head towards 25,900-26,000 levels in the coming week, being the measuring implication of the last week's range (25,200-24,500). The upper band of the recent consolidation range, 25,100-25,200 is likely to reverse its role and act as key support in coming weeks,' the note added. ADVERTISEMENT Here are the key factors that will likely impact the D-Street action this week: Looking ahead, global cues will continue to drive market direction. Despite improved sentiment, caution persists regarding potential tariff escalations, with U.S. tariffs scheduled to resume from July 9 and updates on trade agreements will remain in focus. ADVERTISEMENT The U.S. President recently announced on a social media platform the signing of a deal with China and indicated a potential deal with India, although details remain scant. Further clarity on these developments will be closely monitored by the high-frequency data such as IIP and PMI figures will be in focus, along with the monsoon progress. ADVERTISEMENT The trend in foreign institutional investor (FII) flows will also be closely monitored. On Friday, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers at Rs 1,504.93 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers at Rs 765.82 crore. Brent and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude prices fell on Friday, reversing gains after a report that OPEC+ was planning to hike production in August following an increase planned for July. ADVERTISEMENT The Indian rupee had its best week since January 2023, as an Iran-Israel ceasefire cooled oil prices and sapped safe-haven dollar demand, while worries over the Federal Reserve's future independence added pressure on the rupee gained 1.3% on the week, its best performance in two and a half years, to close at 85.4750 per U.S. dollar on Friday."The Nifty continued to move higher as investor confidence remained strong. With no major resistance seen before 25,750–25,800, the index may continue its upward trajectory. However, the rally might not be sharp, and it could take time to reach the 25,800 mark.'A buy-on-dips strategy appears more appropriate at current levels, following the sharp rise over the past few days. On the downside, support is placed at 25,500; a break below this level could lead to consolidation,' said Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities.
