VPA bags 2 prestigious CSR Awards 2025
The awards were conferred in recognition of VPA's remarkable initiatives in the categories of healthcare promotion and skill development.
The Greentech CSR Awards, conferred annually, recognise organisations demonstrating excellence and leadership in corporate social responsibility across 10 categories. VPA stood out for its outstanding and sustainable CSR practices, particularly its focused initiatives benefiting the underprivileged and tribal communities.
VPA's initiatives under healthcare promotion include financial assistance for a free evening medical clinics, support for construction of environmental management facilities at Lions Cancer and General Hospital and funding for midday meals for students in unaided schools.
In the skill development category, VPA was lauded for its structured training and capability-building programmes aimed at empowering local youth and marginalised communities in securing jobs at various MNCs.
The awards are a testament to VPA's sustained commitment to CSR and its strategic approach in creating long-term social impact. VPA successfully met all parameters set by the Greentech Foundation, reflecting the organisation's alignment with business excellence and sustainable development.
Congratulating the personnel for the remarkable achievement, chairperson of VPA M Angamuthu encouraged the team's continued commitment towards inclusive growth and community development. Among others, secretary of VPA T Venu Gopal, was present.

Free HPV vaccination drive for girls in August
Visakhapatnam South MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas has urged parents to get their daughters aged 9 to 14 years vaccinated to prevent cervical cancer. A free HPV vaccine drive will be conducted for the students of the Government Queen Mary's High School, aged nine to 14 years, in August. The Lions Club of Vizag Charitable Trust and Chaitanya Sravanthi, with the funds from Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), will organise the vaccination drive. Participating in an awareness camp organised for the parents at Queen Mary's High School on Thursday, Mr. Vamsi Krishna Srinivas said vaccination was the only way to prevent cervical cancer. Chaitanya Sravanthi president Shirin Rahman said the VPA was sponsoring the vaccination drive. The first dose would be administered in August, while the second dose would be given in February, 2026. Dr. I Vani, Superintendent, King George Hospital (KGH), said that vaccination of girls in the target age group was necessary to prevent cervical cancer. She said that pap smear tests were being conducted at KGH for the early detection of cervical cancer. Lions Cancer and General Hospital managing trustee V. Uma Maheswar Rao said awareness camps were being organised in rural and urban areas, particularly in slums. Dr. Sarojini, a retired DM&HO also spoke. GVMC corporator Sadiq, Queen Mary's School Head Master C.S.R. Varma, Lions Club of Vizag Charitable Trust secretary Ravichandra and treasurer Harinadh Chowdary were present.

Union Minister for Ports Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates BIMSTEC Conclave in Visakhapatnam
VISAKHAPATNAM: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated the second Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Ports Conclave in Visakhapatnam on Monday. Delegates from all seven BIMSTEC member countries–Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and India–participated in the event. Welcoming the representatives, Visakhapatnam Port Authority Chairman M Angamuthu highlighted the strategic importance of Visakhapatnam in maritime trade and logistics. He called for greater collaboration among BIMSTEC countries in port-led industrialisation, digital infrastructure integration, and maritime skill development. He also underlined the contribution of the Centre of Excellence in Maritime Skill Development (CEMS) in positioning Visakhapatnam as a training hub for the maritime sector. In his address, the Union Minister laid out key components of the Union government's long-term maritime vision, in line with the Prime Minister's Vision 2030 and 2047. BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey shared the framework of BIMSTEC Vision 2030 and noted that 267 transport connectivity projects are currently in progress under the master plan. He proposed setting up a BIMSTEC Centre of Excellence in Maritime Transport in Visakhapatnam and outlined plans for real-time cargo tracking and sustainable port practices.

Union Min to inaugurate BIMSTEC ports conclave in Vizag today
Visakhapatnam: Reaffirming India's commitment to strengthen regional maritime connectivity and cooperation across the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) region, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) is going to host the second BIMSTEC Ports Conclave at Novotel on Monday (July 14). Focusing on the theme 'navigating the future: blue economy, innovation and sustainable partnerships', the two-day conclave will bring together ministerial delegations, port authorities, maritime experts, and business leaders from BIMSTEC member countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand on to a platform. The conclave will be inaugurated by Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. The Union Minister will inaugurate several developmental projects at Visakhapatnam Port and lay the foundation stone for ensuing infrastructure works in the presence of Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur and chairperson of VPA M. Angamuthu, among others. BIMSTEC plays a pivotal role in creating a prosperous, secure and resilient Indo-Pacific in line with India's Act East Policy, Neighbourhood First, and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision. As part of the BIMSTEC Ports conclave's first edition, the theme centred on 'the blue seas synergy summit'. The second edition to focus on unlocking private investment and infrastructure partnerships across BIMSTEC ports, including fast-tracking of Kaladan Multimodal Transit Corridor and associated logistics networks, identifying and promoting coastal tourism circuits and heritage cruise lines, upskilling port workforce and developing future-ready talent pools, advancing the Blue Economy through green energy adoption, sustainable logistics, and digital transformation. Aligned with Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, the conclave will feature deliberations on Harit Sagar (green ports) and shore-to-ship power supply and green hydrogen integration and decarbonisation pathways, smart logistics corridors, SEZs, and port-linked industrialisation. Ministers of Transport and Ports from BIMSTEC countries, senior officials from Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, delegates from shipping corporations, port trusts, logistics companies and experts from UNESCAP, ADB, BIMSTEC Secretariat, and international think tanks to participate in the conclave.
