Kaizer Chiefs set to extend contract of 34-year-old star

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly looking to extend Gaston Sirino's stay at the club.
The 34-year-old Uruguayan joined Amakhosi last season as a free agent after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. He had a decent campaign with Chiefs and it is believed the management are happy with his contributions to the club.
Soccer Laduma reported that the Soweto giants were willing to keep the hard working attacker until 2027.
'It's the technical team that is believed to have recommended that Sirino should stay at the club beyond the expiry of his contract next year. They believe he has proven his worth at the club. So they are believed to have offered him a new one-year contract extension for his hard work and commitment to the team,' the source told Soccer Laduma .
A second source said that Sirino's experience and leadership qualities were valued and the Kaizer Chiefs technical team feel he can lead the youngsters.
'The team needs leaders. So Sirino is one of the leaders in the squad who keeps the spirit going in the team, and they need him going forward while the youngsters learn from him as well.'
Sirino played 25 matches for Kaizer Chiefs across all competitions and scored four goals last season. Although he started the previous campaign strongly, injuries halted his progress and often had to start from the bench.

Mamelodi Sundowns' talisman Lucas Ribeiro ecstatic with the season of triumphs, and teamwork

MAMELODI Sundowns talisman Lucas Ribeiro looking up to launch another spectacular season at Chloorkop. | MS/Facebook Ribeiro had his best season in the famous yellow and green jersey of Sundowns last campaign, scoring 21 and registering 14 assists in 51 games. Lucas Ribeiro is on cloud nine after winning big at the 2024/25 season PSL awards, and he's grateful for the support his teammates and coaches gave him. The Brazilian also starred at the Club World Cup in the US, scoring the Goal of the Tournament for his strike against German giants Borussia Dortmund in the group stage. And for his domestic efforts, he bagged the league's coveted Footballer of the Season, Player's Player of the Season, Goal of the Season and Top Goal Scorer of the Season awards. 'It was a very good season, and the team played very well,' Ribeiro told the Brazilians' media team after the award ceremony on Tuesday night. 'There was fatigue this season because we played so many games, but I am happy with individual trophies. 'I didn't play alone though. My teammates helped me a lot, and gave me support. So, thank you to them and the coach (Miguel Cardoso) - the guy helped me to elevate my level as a player.' Being crowned the Footballer of the Season - an award that's voted for by the 16 coaches in the league - is one of the greatest recognition a player can get. But, Ribeiro didn't want to single out his favourite trophy, saying: 'I like every trophy because they are all important to me. It was a crazy season for me, so all four mean a lot.' Ribeiro and Co are set to be in for another 'crazy season" as expectations have mounted on them to improve after their impressive display at the World Cup last month. As such, after coming back for pre-season, they started with their preparations at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium as their base, Chloorkop, is undergoing renovations. From thereon, they camped in Rustenburg before returning to Atteridgeville to finetune their preparations for the MTN8 quarter-final against Richards at the same venue on Sunday. 'Training was good,' said Ribeiro. 'I am happy with training, and I am back at training to help my team. I worked well with the players and the coaches.'

Opinion: Why this is Nasreddine Nabi's last season at Kaizer Chiefs

Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi had high expectations during his 12 months at Kaizer Chiefs, but ultimately delivered disappointing results. The 59-year-old coach was initially sought after by Amakhosi while he was with Yanga. After parting ways with the Tanzanian club in 2023, he joined FAR Rabat in Morocco. At that time, reports indicated that Chiefs were reluctant to hire him along with his three assistants. Instead, the Glamour Boys appointed Molefi Ntseki, but his tenure lasted just four months before Cavin Johnson took over. Sadly, Johnson also struggled to move the team forward. Eventually, Kaizer Chiefs decided to approach Nabi once more, allowing him to bring his technical team this time. Nabi began the season positively, winning his first three matches across all competitions. However, despite a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign, Amakhosi were unable to maintain their momentum and finished ninth in the Betway Premiership. Their only saving grace was winning the Nedbank Cup, which marked the first trophy for the Khosination in a decade and helped secure the coach's position. With the new season starting this weekend, pressure is on the Tunisian coach. Chiefs will not participate in the MTN8 and will play their opening match next weekend against Stellenbosch. Given the team's recent performances in pre-season, it appears unlikely that they will contend for the league title. With the MTN8 out of consideration, Chiefs' realistic chances for silverware now lie in the Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup. Since 2013, Nabi has never coached a team for more than two seasons. Despite his success with Yanga, he was only there for two years. After that, he joined AS FAR but lasted just a season before joining the Soweto giants. In May, there were rumours that Kaizer Chiefs might cut Nabi's stay short despite the Nedbank triumph. It appears the Tunisian was given another season to improve the team. With Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns looking sharp, it seems unlikely that Amakhosi will challenge for top honours. A bad start for Kaizer Chiefs will put pressure on the players, forcing Nabi to quit before his three-year contract expires. The only thing that can see him stay beyond this season is another cup win and top four finish. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Mamelodi Sundowns star Shalulile set to join African powerhouse

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile is actively closing in on a blockbuster move to Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis, as the club prepares to sanction one of the most high-profile exits from the Premier Soccer League this transfer window. Sources at iDiski Times confirm that Esperance are finalising terms with Sundowns to secure the signature of the 31-year-old Namibian international, who left the Brazilians' training camp this morning to prepare for his journey to Tunisia. Shalulile's potential departure would represent a major shake-up for Sundowns, as they look to recalibrate their squad following a dominant domestic campaign. If all goes according to plan, Shalulile will become the second Premier Soccer League star to join Esperance this season, after Elias Mokwana completed his move from Sekhukhune United earlier in the 2024/2025 campaign. The duo's arrival highlights Esperance's aggressive strategy to recruit top talent from South Africa as they aim for continental glory. Shalulile, who also captains Namibia's Brave Warriors, has notched up a remarkable 130 goals in 290 appearances across his time with Sundowns and Highlands Park. Cementing his legacy as one of the most lethal strikers in South African football. His move to Tunisia not only ends a glittering chapter in the PSL. But also signals Esperance's intent to dominate both domestically and in CAF competitions. 'Shalulile's departure would leave big boots to fill at Chloorkop. And all eyes will now be on how Sundowns respond in the market,' the source said. Should Mamelodi Sundowns let Shalulile go?
