Minister promises to develop infrastructure in tribal villages
Speaking at a press conference organised on the occasion, the Minister said that steps are being taken to ensure basic infrastructure in all schools by June when schools reopen. With special initiative from Minister Nara Lokesh, Rs 156 crore has been sanctioned, and work has already begun. 'Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed the provision of drinking water to people in over 4,000 tribal villages, and drinking water has already been provided to the majority of these villages,' she said. The minister noted that ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) programmes are being integrated with activities in tribal areas. Steps have been taken to provide nutritious food to children in tribal regions. Although doctors have been appointed in tribal areas, they often do not reside there. To address this, appointments will be made to ensure doctors stay in these areas, providing better healthcare to tribals.
The minister stated that skill development courses will be offered to tribal youth to create employment opportunities. Birth waiting halls have been set up for pregnant women, and post-delivery, mothers and newborns are safely transported home via the Mother-Child Express vehicle.
Over 2,000 jobs are available for tribals in the Mega DSC, which will improve the lives of many tribal youth. The state has nine ITDAs, but Vijayawada and Nellore ITDAs cannot officially represent tribal areas due to the absence of tribal populations.

In Raghav Productivity, the stake was reduced by 51 bps to 1.04%, according to BSE data. The reduction in Sula Vineyards comes amid sustained underperformance, with the stock losing 40% over the past year and 28% in 2025 so far. In contrast, Raghav Productivity had rallied 56% in the last 12 months, outperforming the Nifty's 2% gain during the same period. The recent trimming appears to be profit-booking, especially as the stock has declined over 5% in 2025, while the Nifty has gained more than 5%. Mukul Agrawal Portfolio Agrawal, known for identifying multibaggers, publicly holds 61 stocks with a combined net worth of over Rs 6,870 crore as of the June quarter. 'Can Activate Malware, Bugs': Govt To Probe Security Risks From Chinese Medical Devices
China is the second-largest exporter of medical devices to India at around Rs 11,506 crore in 2023-24, less than US, which exported devices worth Rs 12,552 crore the same year Amid rising national security concerns, the government is investigating Chinese IoT-enabled medical devices in remote areas, fearing they could leak sensitive health data and compromise defence interests, News18 has learnt. A concern was raised during a meeting chaired by Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal, flagging potential national security and data privacy risks. The ministry has ordered an examination into the growing use of Chinese IoT-enabled medical devices in remote Indian health facilities. An official document reviewed by News18 outlines concerns over the potential misuse of data by Chinese firms, particularly through medical imaging and monitoring devices. These devices, which are now being widely used in rural healthcare settings, have been identified as potential conduits for surveillance and unauthorised data access. 'Deployment of Chinese medical devices in remote areas raises patient data security concerns… Concern expressed was that the population health data can be misused by Chinese firms (using Chinese-owned medical devices, especially IoT-enabled imaging and monitoring equipment, which are increasingly being installed in remote Indian health facilities)," according to the minutes of the meeting held on July 2. According to an official who was part of the meeting, 'the concern was discussed with the minister, as it is very easy to insert malware or bugs into the medical devices while exporting. Any hostile nation can play this trick and activate malware or bugs in those devices whenever they want". 'We must understand that such incidents can put thousands of patients using those devices under severe distress. Hence, we need to scrutinise the devices which are coming from hostile nations. The ministry has decided to take this matter seriously and will go deep into it," he said, requesting anonymity. The commerce ministry has proposed that relevant data be shared with ministries, including the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) for further scrutiny. Presence of Chinese Medical Devices in India According to industry data, India continues to rely heavily on Chinese imports for a wide range of medical devices, particularly in critical and high-volume categories. China is the second-largest exporter of medical devices to India, which stood around Rs 11,506 crore in 2023-24, slightly less than the US, which exported devices worth Rs 12,552 crore in the same year. Some of the top medical equipment imported from China includes patient monitoring systems, diagnostic imaging machines (like ultrasound and CT scanners), in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) kits, oxygen concentrators, surgical instruments, thermometers, orthopaedic implants, and disposable items like syringes and needles. Leading Chinese companies dominating this space include Mindray, United Imaging, Yuwell and Sinocare. These firms, often offering competitively priced technology, have gained strong market presence in India, especially in Tier-II and rural health settings. The document also highlights transfer pricing violations by Chinese firms, pushing for stronger enforcement through anti-dumping measures and quality control orders (QCOs). The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has been tasked with examining this issue, in consultation with agencies like BIS and CBIC. Nine BBMP staffers to be probed over Covid bills
BENGALURU: A Departmental Enquiry (DE) has been ordered against nine BBMP officials in connection with the alleged irregularities in the release of payments related to Covid-19. Following the recommendation from the Justice Michael D Cunha Committee, which was constituted to probe the alleged irregularities in the procurement of Covid-19, notice was issued to 28 officers of the corporation, including engineers, doctors and the officers of the accounts department, seeking an explanation about the purchase of medicines and medical supplies during that period. 19 officers were given a clean chit. The health department, however, ordered an investigation into the remaining officers. 'These are officials in the BBMP health department who failed to give clarity over expenses and bills, and hence the matter was escalated to the BBMP Administration Department. If these officials fail to clarify the doubts, action will be initiated,' said Sirajuddin Madani, Chief Health Officer. Notices have been issued to 15 private companies that supplied materials during the Covid period. The committee has suggested the recovery of Rs 13 crore given to 15 private companies as 'extra'. BBMP Officers and Employees Association president Amruth Raj said it's time the black sheep are shunted out. 'Those involved in dereliction of duty should be suspended and jailed,' he said.
