Raleigh hits Nos. 34 and 35 to match Griffey's Mariners record for HRs before All-Star break

Associated Press SEATTLE (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his 34th and 35th home runs to set a career high and match Ken Griffey Jr.'s Seattle record for homers before the All-Star break, helping the Mariners beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 on Friday The major league leader turned on a fastball from Bailey Falter (6-4) in the first inning and walloped it well past the wall in left. The exit velocity on the two-run shot was logged at 115.2 mph, per Statcast — the hardest-hit ball of his career. Raleigh topped his previous career high — set last season — in the sixth with a solo shot that chased Falter. The Mariners only mustered one other hit off the left-hander, but it was also a home run courtesy of Randy Arozarena in the fourth inning. Mariners starter Bryan Woo (8-4) went six innings. Key moment The Pirates came a few inches away from taking a 2–0 lead in the first inning when Oneil Cruz lofted a pop-up toward no man's land in left field. Arozarena made an improbable catch to end the inning and strand two Pittsburgh runners. Key stat Woo has worked at least six innings all 17 starts this season. Up next Seattle RHP Luis Castillo (4-5, 3.55) was set to start Saturday against RHP Mike Burrows (1-2, 4.15). ___ AP MLB: recommended

Busch finished 4 for 4 with five RBIs. Crow-Armstrong also went 4 for 4, and Dansby Swanson launched a two-run homer during a Cubs power barrage that had the crowd of 40,038 at Wrigley Field roaring. Seiya Suzuki and Carson Kelly added solo shots as the NL Central leaders hit six homers in the first three innings off Miles Mikolas (4-6), a record for most home runs off a Cardinals pitcher in one game. The eight longballs allowed by St. Louis also broke a club mark. Brendan Donovan led off the fourth with a home run against Colin Rea, ending a 31-inning scoreless streak for the Cardinals. St. Louis, which dropped its fourth straight, was shut out in its three previous losses. That was the only hit Rea (6-3) allowed in 6 2/3 innings, matching his longest outing this season. Mikolas (4-6) was tagged for eight runs and 10 hits over six innings in losing his fourth in a row. Suzuki drilled his team-leading 24th homer and Crow-Armstrong followed with his first of the game in the first. Busch and Kelly hit consecutive drives in the second, giving Chicago nine sets of back-to-back homers this season and a 4-0 lead. Crow-Armstrong launched his 23rd homer off Wrigley Field's right-field video board in the third. After Swanson singled, Busch hit the board with a two-run shot that made it 7-0. Cubs infielder Jon Berti pitched the ninth and allowed two runs. Key moment Busch pumped his hands to the crowd as he circled the bases after going deep in the seventh for his first career three-homer game. Mets' Kodai Senga to Make Rehab Start Saturday; José Buttó Goes on 15-Day IL

New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga, sidelined since June 12 by a strained right hamstring, is to start a rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Binghamton. He is to throw 60 to 65 pitches, according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, and soon could return to New York's injury-ravaged rotation. "We'll see how it goes tomorrow and then see how he responds, and we'll have a decision after that," Mendoza said. Elsewhere, Mets reliever José Buttó was put on the 15-day injured list Friday with an unspecified illness, the team's 13th pitcher on the IL. "We're not going to get into the details of it out of respect of Buttó, but we don't anticipate this being long term," Mendoza said. "We expect him to be back right after the All-Star break." Mendoza said he didn't anticipate that Buttó will need to go on a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment. A 27-year-old right-hander, Buttó is 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA in 31 relief appearances, the last a two-inning outing at Pittsburgh last Saturday. New York recalled right-hander Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse. Brought up for the fourth time this season, the 34-year-old right-hander has made four appearances for the Mets. New York didn't have an update on reliever Dedniel Núñez, who was put on the IL on Thursday because of a sprained right elbow sprain and could require Tommy John surgery for the second time. "He's going to visit a doctor next week because of a holiday weekend," Mendoza said. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
