Swarm of bees halts IndiGo flight at Surat airport for nearly an hour
New Delhi
A swarm of bees delayed the departure of an IndiGo flight from Surat to Jaipur by nearly an hour on Monday, NDTV reported.
The insects had gathered near the Airbus A320's open luggage door while the aircraft was stationed at Surat airport. Although passengers were already onboard, the flight, scheduled to depart at 4:20 pm, remained grounded until 5:26 pm.
Ground staff initially used smoke to disperse the bees, but the attempt failed. The fire department was then called in and used water to clear the swarm.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, another IndiGo flight from Indore to Raipur returned shortly after takeoff due to a technical fault, according to an official quoted by PTI.
Indore's Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport director Vipinkant Seth told the news agency that the pilot realised a fault in the flight number 6E-7295 after the takeoff, following which the same was informed to Air Traffic Control (ATC) leading to the return of the flight.
Seth also claimed that the flight did not make an "emergency landing", the airport director claimed, without giving details of the technical fault.

Ahmedabad civil hospital performs last rites of Air India plane crash victims' body parts
The Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has performed the last rites of body parts of 19 persons who were killed in the June 12 Air India plane crash in the Gujarat city, officials said on Tuesday. The Gatwick-bound Air India AI171 Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight crashed into a medical college hostel complex on June 12, killing all but one passenger. (PTI) In a release, the state government-run hospital said the death toll in the horrific crash continues to be 260, and these body parts belong to the victims, but were found from the disaster site after mortal remains were handed over to families of the deceased. Authorities had announced that the mortal remains of the last victim had been handed over to kin on June 27. At the time of handing over the mortal remains, the hospital had told families of the possibility of recovery of more body parts later from the crash site given the horrific nature of the air disaster. During the ongoing investigation into the crash as well as shifting of debris from the site, more body parts were discovered and sent for DNA analysis for identification, said the release. A series of DNA tests confirmed that these body parts belonged to 26 victims whose mortal remains were already handed over to their kin. "While seven families collected the second set of remains last week, 19 families gave the Civil Hospital permission to perform last rites. Thus, last rites of 18 Hindu victims were performed at a crematorium, while the remains of a Muslim victim were buried at a graveyard," said the release. Ashes of the Hindu victims were then immersed at Naran Ghat of the Sabarmati river in the city. A London-bound Air India flight crashed into a hostel complex in Meghaninagar moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on June 12, killing 241 on board and several others on the ground. One passenger miraculously survived.

Bee attack delays flight in India
A swarm obstructed the cargo door of a domestic flight, pushing back takeoff by an hour A swarm of bees encircled the luggage door of a flight in India, resulting in a delay of over an hour, media reports said on Tuesday. Passengers who had boarded the Indigo flight at Surat International Airport in the western state of Gujarat were left waiting, while airport staff scrambled to resolve the issue as the bees confined themselves to one section by the door, reports said. Airport authorities first tried to drive the bees away using smoke, but this proved ineffective. They then brought in the fire brigade team, who used water to spray the area. "We informed the airport's fire team. They used a jet of water from a fire tender to remove the bees from the open shutter," the Times of India quoted an airport official as saying. After the issue was addressed, the flight to Jaipur managed to take off after an hour's delay, local media reports said. Similar incidents were reported in 2019 and 2020 when swarms of bees delayed two separate Air India flights in Kolkata, according to a report by The Indian Express. While in 2019, the bees sat near the cockpit window of a Boeing 737, the following year, the insects gathered near the cargo hold of an aircraft, the report added. India's fast-growing aviation sector has faced a number of problems over the last few months. In June, a UK-bound Boeing 787 carrying 242 passengers and crewcrashedinto a medical college hostel just minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad. On Tuesday, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau submitted its preliminary report on the crash to the Aviation Ministry, according to a report by news agency ANI. The findings and conclusions of the investigators remain undisclosed. (
