2026 5-star Edge announcement details revealed for Saturday, July 5

USA Today2 days ago
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff are on the precipice of landing 2026 five-star defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright, who is set to make his announcement on Saturday afternoon. On Wednesday, Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong placed his prediction that the Aggies will land the standout pass rusher, who will choose between Clemson, Miami, Texas, and A&M.
On Thursday, Perry-Wright's announcement plans for Saturday afternoon were revealed. They will take place live on 247Sports' YouTube channel at 4 p.m. CT, providing every fanbase the opportunity to watch the elite prospect make what has been deemed a close decision, even though the Aggies are the late favorites.
Again, Texas A&M being in the mix for nearly every elite defensive lineman and edge prospect in the 2026 cycle is not surprising, given the program's success this summer, which began and ended with the staff's ability to build a strong, lasting relationship-based culture and a clear development plan for every recruit.
The same goes for Perry-Wright, who, despite being slightly undersized, is regarded as one of the top pass rushers who will likely be a defensive end at the next level. On the field, Perry-Wright broke out during his 2024 junior season, recording 57 tackles (13 for loss) and nine sacks, which helped lead his team to the playoff semifinals and earned him a spot in the Navy All-American Bowl.
According to 247Sports, Bryce Perry-Wright is currently positioned as the 32nd-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 2nd-ranked defensive lineman, and the 5th-ranked prospect in Georgia.

5-star WR Calvin Russell announces college commitment

As is always the case in the world of college football, the 4th of July holiday weekend is stacked with commitments of top-ranked players in the nation. We saw several 5-star players announce their commitments ealier in the week, and that continued on Saturday with the announcement fro 5-star WR Calvin Russell. While the Oregon Ducks were among the top schools for Russell, the No. 21 player and No. 3 WR in the class, per 247 Sports, they ultimately were unable to land him. On Saturday night, Russell announced his commitment to the Syracuse Orange. Russell took an official visit to Oregon in June and had the Ducks among his top schools. Still, the Ducks weren't a strong contender late in his recruitment as Syracuse and Michigan got into a bidding war over the top-tier prospect. Meanwhile, the Ducks — who landed 4-star WR Messiah Hampton last month — are considered the favorite to land 4-star WR Jalen Lott when he announces his commitment in a few days. Following the recent surge in commitments, Oregon now boasts the No. 10 class in the 2026 cycle and is likely to improve it further with a few more commitments on the horizon. Texas A&M boasts SEC's top returning production entering 2025 college football season

While Texas A&M brought in the No. 11 transfer portal class per On3 Sports, the Aggies are also one of 18 programs to bring back 12 or more returning players in 2025. According to production rankings from CBS Sports, second-year head coach Mike Elko returns 15 total starters ahead of this year's campaign. The program's returning production ranks fourth among all FBS schools and first in the Southeastern Conference. Here is the full list of Texas A&M's expected returning starters for the 2025 season on offense and defense: Offense Defense The most important factor among this list is that all five starting offensive linemen return for the Aggies in 2025. Those contributions in the trenches will prove to be integral for a gunslinger like Reed, who enters this year as one of the nation's most highly touted quarterbacks with a year of experience under his belt against SEC competition. Following a knee injury on Nov. 2 against South Carolina, Moss was sidelined for the remainder of the season after leading the team in rushing for the majority of the 2024 campaign. His return to the starting lineup when kickoff arrives will be much-needed, as the Aggies' rushing attack played a massive role in the offense's success last season before the injury bug struck the running back room. The loss of defensive stars to the NFL Draft, like Shemar Stewart, Nic Scourton, and Shemar Turner, was a massive hit to Texas A&M's defensive production. Returning eight starters from last year's roster helps combat that tremendously, however. Leaders like Williams, who played through a torn meniscus last season, will play huge roles in filling in those gaps created by the loss of the former Aggie defensive talent. One of the most important attributes that all of these starters possess is experience. According to On3 Sports Strength of Schedule Rankings, Texas A&M's 2025 schedule ranks No. 11, which is where the veteran presence on both sides of the ball will play a large factor. Hannah Stuelke, Team USA defeat Canada

In her first year as part of the Team USA roster, Iowa women's basketball star forward Hannah Stuelke and the United States (6-0) secured a spot in the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup Final with a hard-fought 65-52 win over Team Canada in the tournament semifinal on Saturday evening from Santiago, Chile. Despite having her best game of the tournament in the Americans' quarterfinal win over the Dominican Republic, Stuelke scored just two points on 1-for-2 shooting from the floor. The senior Hawkeye forward also registered five rebounds, one steal, and one block in 18:15 of playing time off the bench. Stuelke finished with a plus-15 point differential and a plus-8 point efficiency when on the court for the U.S. against the Canadians on Saturday. While she did not factor much into Team USA's offense, Stuelke's lone basket came with 6:14 left in the third quarter off a nifty pass from Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo into the post for a layup to tie the game at 37 apiece. Hidalgo led Team USA in scoring on the night by posting 19 points on 8-for-18 shooting. The U.S. advances to the tournament final on Sunday (July 6), where it will face either Brazil (4-0) or Argentina (2-2). The finals matchup is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. CT and can be streamed on Courtside 1891 through MAX.
