Tamil Nadu government-run school, college hostels to be called 'social justice hostels' hereon: CM MK Stalin
He informed that under DMK rule, which is principled on social justice and inclusion, there would be 'no' kind of discrimination, be it gender or caste. He also asserted that all governments' programmes were aligned towards this goal.
CM Stalin recalled that on April 29 this year, he had announced in the Assembly that the term 'Colony' would be removed from official records and public parlance as it symbolised 'oppression' and pointed at the 'connotation of untouchability'.
Notably, he reiterated his request to PM Modi to amend the SC/ST community names that ends with 'n' and 'a' with 'r' in a measure to ensure their dignity.
He also recalled the GO issued on June 25, on behalf of the School Education Department that stipulates measures to deter caste and communal conflict, weed out differences among school students and encourage harmony and virtues among them.

The new Carnac Bridge in South Mumbai, rebuilt in place of the 154-year-old structure demolished in November 2022, will be named the 'Sindoor' Bridge, dedicated to Operation Sindoor. The bridge will be inaugurated on Thursday, July 10 at 10 am. The bridge, officially titled the Sindoor (formerly Carnac) flyover, connects the eastern and western parts of South Mumbai and is located near Masjid Bunder Railway Station. I was disrespected at temple: Selvaperunthagai
Chennai: TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai on Tuesday said he was treated with disrespect at the Vallakottai Murugan temple consecration in Kancheepuram despite arriving on time. The DMK allies called for action against HR&CE officials while minister P K Sekarbabu visited the Congress leader and assured action. "The minister expressed regret for the incident," Selvaperunthagai said. The controversy related to the consecration ceremony of the temple, which took place after 17 years. Former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundarajan, Selvaperunthagai, and DMK (Anna Nagar) MLA M K Mohan were among those in attendance. Selvaperunthagai said he wasn't treated with the respect an elected representative deserved. "It is customary for the elected representatives to flag off the temple consecration ceremony by standing on top of the Temple Vimana, and it happens that way in all temple festivals. But during this festival, the HR&CE officials flagged it off. Similarly, there was no one to even guide me and take me to the appropriate places. None of the protocols were followed," he told TOI. Sources in the HR&CE department said officials concerned submitted a report to the higher-ups saying the Congress leader arrived late and missed the prayers, despite priests waiting for him for 30 minutes. Selvaperunthagai denied these accusations. "I was asked to come at 8.30am, and I reached the temple at 8.15am. I was waiting in the temple storeroom to participate in the prayers, but there was no one there to accompany me because of which I had to leave. Some have an ancient mindset." DMK functionaries gherao minister in party event, refuse to allow him
Pudukottai: Tension prevailed for a while in the DMK's booth level agents (BLA) meeting in Pudukottai on Tuesday as party functionaries and cadres gheraoed DMK's principal secretary K N Nehru and refused to let him in. They demanded changes in the party's urban district unit leadership. In a similar event at a different location, functionaries expressed their dissatisfaction over the district-level leaders constantly sidelining the backward class welfare minister Siva V Meyyanathan, an MLA representing the Alangudi constituency in the district. Sources said that the BLA meeting for the north and south districts of Pudukottai DMK was conducted in two different wedding halls in the town.
