Moira forced to accept devastating loss in Emmerdale

Metro12-05-2025
It's not been a great year for Emmerdale's Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), what with the brain tumour, cheating husband, and the death of her daughter-in-law. But there's more being slung at her, and this is one thing she may not overcome.
Moira's life is her farm and having already had to fight to save it once in the not-too-distant past, the latest threat to her livelihood is this time insurmountable.
The awful slurry spill that happened during John Sugden's (Oliver Farnworth) stag do and saw the local water supply contaminated resulted in young Harry getting sick from drinking the water. He was rushed to hospital and had to remain in their care due to the severity of his condition.
This has had huge ramifications – not only has it rocked the village's trust in Moira, but her business has tanked as a knock-on effect.
Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) has taken the fall and is swamped with guilt about the incident, but things get worse when he learns that Moira's insurance company have poo-pooed any idea of them paying out due to the incident seemingly being due to recklessness.
It's the nail in the coffin and a defeated Moira realises that this is the end of the line – Butlers will be no more after 16 years. She's fort valiantly, but in the end, it wasn't enough. As far as she is concerned, Mackenzie is to blame. More Trending
John is burdened with the weight of his own guilt and takes it out on Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). Little Harry, the victim of the slurry spill, is still ill in hospital on a drip and Mack breaks down in John's arms at the gravity of what he's done.

There's another knock-on effect of the dreadful spill – Moira completely turns her back on Mack. Under the weight of the situation, Mack makes a tough decision as he pulls out as Aaron's best man, leaving Aaron crushed.
But Moira cannot bear to look at her brother as she watches her whole life go up in flames. She accepts her fate, the farm is finished.

‘I am a Lioness super fan, and I'm getting tattoos of seven players on my calf'

A Lioness super fan has already got her tattoo appointment booked for the faces of her football heroes. Kayleigh Knipe Thompson is ready to dedicate her left calf for England's women's team, saying 'she wouldn't be here' without her love of the game. The 34-year-old travelled set off at 3.30am from her home in Sheffield, picking up other fans on the way, to make today's trophy parade. She told Metro: 'I'm booked to get all of them on Friday, and have planned out the sketches. I just love football so much.' Members of both the 2022 and 2025 victory teams are set to make an appearance on Kayleigh's leg, including Mary Earps, Alessia Russo, Lucy Bronze, and Hannah Hampton. They will sit alongside the Three Lions badge and a picture of the Women's Euro 2022 trophy – with the 2025 date also set to be added underneath. 'I'm also saving space for the World Cup,' Kayleigh added. 'I just love all football, and the girls deserve to be remembered for what they have achieved.' Kayleigh, who is a trained UEFA coach, offered to give strangers a lift down to the celebration as she had room in her car. She drove to pick up Ellie Green in Salford, who managed to make it over to Switzerland for the final, with the pair becoming firm friends despite meeting for the first time today. Ellie said: 'We had never met before but all of a sudden had a four hour drive down together, but we were just chatting easily the whole way down.' Kayleigh added: 'All the Lioness fans are just like one family, I put the offer out there on a Facebook group because I had space in my car – everyone deserves to go if they are able.' The Lionesses enjoyed a homecoming celebration today following their historic triumph at Euro 2025. England supporters were able to get a glimpse of the team in an open-top double decker bus procession along The Mall – ending in front of Buckingham Palace. At The Mall, one Spanish family have even come to celebrate while they holidayed in London – despite thinking 'England got lucky'. 'But the atmosphere is great, we have had a few people tease us but it's been great.' More Trending Nine-year-old Arlo Harris insisted he much prefers watching the women's team rather than the men's as the standard 'was just better'. His mum Sophie left their home in Plymouth with him at 4.30am to make sure they got a glimpse of the trophy. She said, while dancing with Arlo on her back: 'They are great role models for both boys and girls. 'There's such a sense of unity here. With everything sad going on in the news at the moment, everyone here of all ages is just happy celebrating England.' I'll only watch Netflix's Pride and Prejudice remake on one condition

I hate to say it but not even Olivia Colman can tempt me to feel excited about another rehash of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. We already have two beloved adaptations, so I can't think of anything more dull than another basic remake — no matter how many Oscar winners Netflix casts. However, if this six-part series must go ahead, there is one adaptation that I am begging Dolly Alderton, the writer, to take inspiration from: Bridget Jones. Go modern and reinvent the story. The iconic 00s film was so undeniably brilliant that most of us forget it is loosely based on Pride and Prejudice, even if Mr Darcy's name remained unchanged. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. And Bridget Jones wasn't a fluke, either. Clueless is another beloved Austen modernisation, meanwhile, Shakespeare got an overhaul in 10 Things I Hate About You, She's The Man, and Anyone But You. Some of the most high-regarded rom-coms are these types of contemporary reimaginings, and romance fans have been screaming for more of these twists on classics. However, studios stubbornly stick to churning out known IPs in an attempt to manufacture an assured hit. Classic novels appear to be the flavour of Hollywood right now, with Greta Gerwig's upcoming Wuthering Heights already taking a beating from fans. The last time Netflix decided to take on Jane Austen, we ended up with 2022's Persuasion, which sits at an embarrassingly low 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. Attempting to modernise without going all in was the fatal flaw for this film. It missed the full-blown modern pull while ditching the period charm of 2020's Emma or the older Pride and Prejudice adaptations. And these Pride and Prejudices did it so well. Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen deftly navigated the dance of Elizabeth and Darcy in 2005, scoring Academy Award nominations in multiple categories. Then there's the Colin Firth 1995 TV version, which again landed BAFTA nominations and a place in all romance-lovers' hearts. With such an impressive legacy, there's no way this new series can be better than those classics, so it must be decidedly different. Transforming Pride and Prejudice into something new is the only way to save this new series from a painful reboot fate. Alas, the first pictures of the cast all dressed in traditional period garb hasn't given me hope. I was initially optimistic after the cast announcement, when Netflix revealed Emma Corrin will star as Elizabeth Bennett. Even if they don't go modern, I hope they shake things up somehow. Casting a non-binary actor could open doors to play with the expectations and give us something truly exciting. More Trending In more conventional choices, Mr Darcy will be played by Slow Horses' Jack Lowden, while powerhouse Olivia Colman is Mrs Bennett. I'm not holding my breath for a Bridget Jones-level departure from the novel, but I have faith in Dolly to bring something ( anything ) creative to the table. Emmerdale 'final showdown' as 'three characters will take down John'

Emmerdale viewers are convinced that three characters could bring an end to John Sugden in a 'final showdown' with another sad death also predicted on the ITV soap Viewers of Emmerdale think they've sussed out how the John Sugden storyline will end. ‌ With one character onto the killer and no going back, and a "life-changing" storyline on the way for two characters linked to him, fans think it's all about to come to a head. We have another resident dangerously close to unravelling the dark truth about John too, and fans think it's only a matter of time before his criminal ways come to light. ‌ Robert Sugden wasted no time in deciding his long-lost brother John was a "creep" and a baddie when they met just a few months ago. A showdown in prison amid their rivalry over Aaron Dingle, John's husband and Robert's ex-husband, left Robert unnerved. ‌ He was determined to expose John to everyone, sensing something wasn't right with him and that he was hiding something dark. Since then, he's remained on the case to figure out what John is capable of. John didn't help matters by threatening his sibling, but that said he's won over the entire village who have no idea the things he's done. He's targeted a number of residents over the past year, from drugging people, to causing a deliberate allergic reaction and even killing Nate Robinson. ‌ He framed a character for a harassment campaign he'd set up, and all of this was to play the hero as well as be needed by those in the village. It paid off and no one, asides Robert is suspicious. At one point Mackenzie Boyd was and he became an enemy of the character, only to pay the price and be blamed for a slurry leak on his sister Moira Dingle's farm. John feigned support and Mack believed he was a good guy and left him alone. But Robert is slowly unravelling John's behaviour, and he isn't the only one. Paddy Kirk is volunteering on a helpline, the very helpline a guilty John has been messaging and calling after struggling with his guilt. ‌ Paddy is the exact person who has been messaging John, urging him to open up and speak over the phone. Neither of them realise yet who they are speaking to, but surely it's only a matter of time before one or both of them figure it out, and if John confesses to a crime or two before then, the game could be up. Factoring all this in, fans are convinced it will be these three characters, Mack, Paddy and Robert, who ultimately put the pieces of the puzzle together and expose John. They think events will lead to a "final showdown" and that the trio will team up and end his reign of terror. ‌ Some fans think Aaron will figure it out too and could be someone who brings his own husband down, while Cain Dingle and Victoria Sugden have also been suggested. It's clear Robert is a threat to John, just like Mack once was, so will he put a stop to his investigation? Could Robert or even Mack lose their life in a last death, given Aaron and Mack's mystery upcoming storyline? Taking to social media, one fan theorised: "Robert is obviously suspicious, but won't be believed. And obviously, he only has an instinct that John is a wrong 'un, and a belief that there's police have got it wrong about Nate's death. "He's a long way from understanding what has really been going on. I think they'd is still a role for Mack to play in exposing all John's secrets (and presumably Paddy, too). There'd be great drama in seeing Mack, Rob and Paddy all coming together to save Aaron in some big final showdown." ‌ Another fan said: "I hope he ends up confessing to Paddy via the helpline chat thing and Paddy works with Robert to piece it together." A third viewer predicted: "I actually think it will be Paddy, Mack, Aaron or Vic. And later Robert will be like I told you so. "I'm enjoying the storyline and can't wait to wait it all play out." As of the possible final kill, another fan commented: "I wouldn't be surprised if John kills Mack when he's about to be exposed, being caught by Aaron. And then Aaron is kidnapped by John, leading to a Robert, Cain and Paddy team up."
