Asean, Turkiye must speak with one voice on Gaza, global conflicts
"As principled and responsible members of the international community, we should lend our collective voices towards advocating a peaceful and just resolution to conflicts around the world, including the dire situation in Gaza," he said in his remarks at the Trilateral Meeting Between Malaysia, Turkiye and the Asean Secretariat, here today.
The meeting was held in conjunction with the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings, hosted by Malaysia under its Asean Chairmanship for 2025.
Asean currently comprises 10 member states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Mohamad said Asean and Turkiye must call for Israel to be held accountable for its unrelenting violations of international law.
"Impunity has emboldened it to attack other countries, and it will continue to destabilise the region and beyond if left unchecked," he said.
On the trilateral relationship between Malaysia, Turkiye and Asean, Mohamad said since the establishment of the Asean–Turkiye Sectoral Dialogue Partnership in 2017, the partnership had grown steadily, grounded in shared goals of peace, economic resilience and people-to-people connectivity.
He said the Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) 2024–2028 had provided a forward-looking framework to deepen collaboration in several key areas, including political-security cooperation, trade and digital economy, education, disaster management and sustainable development.
In further consolidating the partnership, he said Malaysia welcomed the expansion of defence industry cooperation as well as technology transfers.
Mohamad said economic relations were set to grow even further, with collaborations through the Turkiye-Asean Business and Investment Forum, and its support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) development and innovation partnerships.
"Turkiye's experience in the realm of e-governance can be a great source of expertise in advancing digital integration, diversifying supply chains, and building collective resilience, and help us navigate current geo-economic challenges," he said.
On the socio-cultural front, he said initiatives such as the Turkiye Scholarships–Asean Joint Scholarship Programme, training for Asean diplomats, and proposed cooperation in technical and vocational education and digital skills development would reinforce people-to-people links and nurture lasting cross-cultural ties. –BERNAMA

He said this at the 30th Anniversary of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and the 2024 and 2025 Fellow Awards ceremony here tonight. Also present were the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Chang Lih Kang and the President of ASM, Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen. Fadillah said the country's achievement of climbing 11 places to the 23rd in the World Competitiveness Ranking by the Institute for Management Development 2025 recently should serve as a catalyst to further strengthen local technological innovation and expand strategic cooperation between the research and industry sectors. He noted that Malaysia is now in a crucial phase of enhancing its competitiveness by transitioning to a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy, shifting from a 'Made in Malaysia' model to 'Made by Malaysia', in line with the emphasis of the 13th Malaysia Plan. In a statement Thursday, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Kuala Lumpur said the commitment was demonstrated during a recent visit by a Malaysian tourism delegation to Uzbekistan from July 3 to 9, 2025. The visit, the embassy said, followed the successful official visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Malaysia on Feb 4 - 5, 2025, and served as part of the implementation of key bilateral agreements in the field of tourism.

S'gor's Tourism To Get Boost With Permanent Docking Of Piano Land Cruise Ship At PKCT
KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- Selangor's tourism sector is expected to receive a new boost when the Piano Land cruise ship from China will dock permanently (home port) at the Port Klang Cruise Terminal (PKCT) starting in the fourth quarter of this year. Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling said it is expected to boost the arrival of international tourists directly to the state, thus opening up new potential in the state's maritime tourism. 'The Piano Land ship has a capacity of around 2,000 passengers and the selection of PKCT as the home port proves that the terminal has suitable and competitive facilities for the growing cruise ship tourism segment,' she told reporters after the Surprising Selangor Media & Influencer Hi-Tea 2025 here today. Chua said Tourism Selangor was also designing an exclusive package to take tourists directly from the terminal to Pulau Ketam without any transit, allowing them to enjoy unique experiences such as walking through the mangrove swamps, seeing eagles, and visiting the kelong (manmade wooden platform) on the island. 'Currently, tourists need to take a taxi to the South Port Terminal Jetty before boarding a boat to Pulau Ketam. With a direct route from PKCT, tourists from cruise ships can go straight to the destination upon arrival. PKCT has also upgraded a special jetty for this purpose,' she said. According to Chua, the move is also supported by the development of short-term tourism packages around Klang and Shah Alam, in line with the cruise ship stopover period, thus providing added value to the state's maritime tourism sector. In addition, she said that in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2025, her team will be organising the Selangor Travel Fair 2025 on July 26 and 27 at the Central Market here, targeting more than 30,000 local visitors. The event, which will bring together 30 exhibitors such as Farm Fresh, Selangor Fruit Valley, GL Play, Tourism Malaysia and the Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (PADAT), will also feature the launch of the official video and song 'Selangor Kan Ada!', performances by Aizat Amdan and Lah Ahmad, creative workshops and a 'live podcast' recording. Meanwhile, Selangor Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the state government is targeting eight million tourists this year, with a projected tourism receipt of RM11.2 billion, in line with efforts to strengthen the industry ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
