The five suspects, aged 28–39, had no valid identification. The case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 and Immigration Act 1956/63. He was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which carries up to 20 years' jail and whipping. The court set mention for Aug 27 and granted RM3,000 bail with conditions, including police reporting and no contact with the victim. The prosecution initially objected to bail, citing the familial relationship and risk to witnesses.
