Matter Aera 5000+ real-world range tested in Sport mode: Here's how far it went
The Matter Aera 5000+ represents a new direction for electric motorcycles in India, with its manual gearbox and electric powertrain. Matter claims it has a range of 125 km in City mode, but we wanted to find out how it would perform when ridden in a sportier way. We did our ride in city traffic in Ahmedabad, where the bike was kept in Sport mode the entire time and we used aggressive throttle inputs, which is the ultimate test for any EV's efficiency.
Matter Aera 5000+: Test setup: Route, mode, and riding style
Our ride took place in Ahmedabad, navigating a mix of city traffic ranging from free-flowing stretches to signal-heavy bottlenecks. . The bike started with 98 per cent charge and an odometer reading of 891.2 km. For the entire duration, it was kept in Sport mode and ridden with aggressive throttle inputs, to simulate how a performance-focused rider might actually use it.

At the end of the ride, the battery percentage dropped to 61 per cent, and the odometer showed 923.7 km, meaning we covered 32.5 km using 37 per cent of the battery. Extrapolating this, the estimated real-world range in Sport mode works out to approximately 88 km on a full charge. Matter Aera 5000+: Real world energy efficiency
With the Matter Aera 5000+ housing a 5 kWh battery pack, the real-world energy consumption during our test worked out to around 17.6 km/kWh. While this is lower than the expected efficiency in City mode, it is in line with expectations for a performance-focused ride in Sport mode. Matter officially claims 110 km of range in Sport mode for the Aera 5000+, presumably using moderate throttle inputs and standard test cycles. Our estimate of 88 km is a more aggressive, real-world riding condition. The energy use and range will depend on terrain, rider weight, and traffic, but the Aera still is a viable option for everyday commutes, even for riders who like spirited riding.
Despite the heavy throttle use and constant riding in Sport mode, the Matter Aera 5000+ delivered a real-world range of 88 km, which is over 80 per cent of its claimed figure.

Check Offers Matter, an Indian electric mobility startup, has introduced its Aera electric motorcycle in Delhi, marking the regional launch of what the company claims is India's first geared electric two-wheeler. Priced at ₹ 1,93,826 (ex-showroom), the Aera is now available for booking via the company's official website. This launch comes at a time when Delhi, one of the country's most polluted and densely populated cities, continues to witness rising interest in electric mobility. The Aera's entry is being positioned as a blend of performance, tech, and efficiency in a segment that typically relies on simplified automatic drivetrains. Matter Aera: Manual gearbox in an electric format A key feature of the Aera is its 'HyperShift' transmission, a 4-speed manual gearbox developed in-house. This system is paired with three ride modes, allowing for a total of 12 gear-mode combinations. While most electric two-wheelers offer a twist-and-go experience, Matter is betting on the idea that manual control can add a layer of rider engagement that's largely missing in the EV space. Matter Aera: Powertrain and performance The Aera is powered by a liquid-cooled electric powertrain, also developed by Matter, and is aimed at handling Indian climate and road conditions. It comes with a 5 kWh battery pack that is certified for a range of up to 172 km under IDC conditions. According to the company, the bike can accelerate from 0 to 40 kmph in under 2.8 seconds. Matter's Aera: Connectivity and tech features Inside the cockpit, the Aera features a 7-inch touchscreen display with integrated navigation, ride stats, and music controls. It also supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Connectivity is a central part of the package, with the MatterVerse app offering features such as remote locking and unlocking, live location tracking, geo-fencing, and ride analytics. A smart park assist feature is included to assist with low-speed manoeuvres, and the bike also offers a keyless start system for convenience. Matter Aera: Running costs and ownership In terms of operating costs, Matter estimates that the Aera will consume energy at roughly 25 paise per kilometre, with potential savings of up to ₹ 1 lakh over three years when compared to petrol-powered commuter bikes. The Royal Enfield Scram 440 was introduced in January of this year as a successor to the Scram 411. Although this model featured numerous enhancements compared to its predecessor, including a larger and more powerful engine, various problems with the motorcycle led the manufacturer to cease sales for a period of time. The problem was associated with a defective engine component on the Royal Enfield Scram 440. This component, known as the 'Woodruff key', connects the rotating elements to the shafts and is situated within the magneto assembly, requiring replacement. As a result of this issue, the motorcycle would not start after stalling during a ride. This problem was apparent in some of the initial bikes delivered to customers. Consequently, Royal Enfield opted to halt sales while deliveries were still in the early stages, until the issue was rectified. The SR 175 is set to succeed the existing SR 160 and is anticipated to feature a larger engine with increased power, along with additional features. The forthcoming Aprilia SR 175 bears a striking resemblance to the SR 160, except for the updated graphics and color choices. The new color scheme appears to draw inspiration from the RS 457 and Tuono 457 motorcycles within the brand's lineup.
