Monsoon Session of Andhra Assembly likely in August
In an informal interaction with mediapersons in his chambers in the State Assembly on Wednesday, Speaker Ch Ayyanna Patrudu said the Monsoon Session may be for 10 days. He informed that the national conference of women lawmakers on women empowerment will be held in Tirupati on September 14 and 15.
Later, Ayyanna Patrudu inspected the under construction quarters of MLAs and MLCs in Amaravati. Speaking on the occasion, he suggested that residential quarters of MLAs and MLCs be constructed keeping in mind the number of seats to be increased after the delimitation. He directed officials to create all modern facilities like swimming pool, club house and others.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of construction of 288 quarters in 12 towers, the Speaker said the quarters will be made available to MLAs and MLCs by December 2025. All the MLAs and MLCs will be in their quarters in Amaravati by the commencement of next budget session. Quarters are also being constructed for 35 Ministers and 36 Judges of the High Court, which will be readied by March 2026. The official residence of the Chief Minister, and Raj Bhavan will be constructed on the banks of Krishna river, he added.

Three YouTube channels blocked for reports on developments in Dharmasthala
Three YouTube channels, including Kannada news portal , has been blocked following an interim High Court order in a petition filed by office-bearers of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project and family members of D. Veerendra Heggade, objecting to the reporting by these channels on certain developments in Dharmasthala. The interim order was issued on May 27, 2025, during the summer vacation of the court, with directions to issue emergent notices to the respondents. However, the YouTube channels were blocked on July 10. H.V. Vasu of told The Hindu that they did not receive any notice before the channel was blocked. 'We got a notice on July 11, a day after YouTube blocked our channel. We will fight to preserve our right to free speech legally and approach the High Court on Monday,' he said. Sanchari Studio Plus and Kudla Rampage Plus are the other two channels that were blocked.

Allahabad High Court reopens Rahul Gandhi's citizenship case after new evidence
LUCKNOW: Adding a new dimension to the public interest petition concerning Rahul Gandhi's alleged British citizenship, petitioner S. Vignesh Shishir has filed a review petition in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. He has submitted new videos and documents reportedly obtained from London, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan. Previously, on 14 May 2025, the High Court had directed the Central Government to act on the matter. In response, the Citizenship Wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs sent a formal request to the British Government via the Indian Embassy, seeking details about Rahul Gandhi's citizenship and passport. According to the petitioner, the UK Government has since provided the requested citizenship information to Indian authorities, and the petitioner has been notified accordingly. The case is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) Anti-Corruption Branch-II in New Delhi. Rahul Gandhi is facing allegations of violating his constitutional oath and submitting a misleading election manifesto by allegedly withholding information regarding foreign citizenship.

Govt boasting of 'one and a half years vs five years' can't even conduct basic elections: Gehlot
Jaipur: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led state government, accusing it of shirking its constitutional responsibilities by delaying elections to Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies. Gehlot said, "The government that boasts of 'one and a half years versus five years' has failed to conduct even basic democratic elections." He highlighted that Article 243-E of the Constitution mandates that Panchayati Raj elections must be held every five years without fail. "The current government is openly flouting constitutional provisions due to fear of an electoral defeat," he alleged. Gehlot further cited key Supreme Court rulings, including Goa Government vs Fauzia Imtiaz Sheikh and Punjab State Election Commission vs Punjab Government, which reaffirm that elections for local self-government bodies must be conducted every five years, as enshrined in the Constitution. 'Even the highest court of the country has made it clear -- these elections are not optional. They are a democratic necessity,' he stressed. The former CM claimed that the BJP's avoidance of timely elections reflects its nervousness about facing the public. 'They know the people are unhappy and might vote them out. That's why they're delaying elections on flimsy grounds,' he said. Gehlot urged the Election Commission and judiciary to intervene and ensure democratic processes are followed. 'Democracy is being weakened under this regime. If elections are not held on time, it sets a dangerous precedent for the country,' he warned. Over 6,500 Panchayati Raj institutions and over 50 municipal bodies in Rajasthan have completed their five-year term, but elections have not yet been conducted. The State Election Commission confirmed this recently in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query. The commission stated that no proposal for elections has been received so far, and elections cannot be held until delimitation and reorganisation processes are completed. The State Election Commission, in a submission to the High Court, explained that the work of delimitation and reorganisation is currently underway at the state government level, due to which, timely elections were not possible. As of January 2025, the tenure of over 6,500 Panchayats had ended. In the interim, the state government appointed sarpanches as administrators, a move that has been challenged in the High Court.
