KPop Demon Hunters season 2 to explore Zoey, Mira's backstories and Jinu's fate, makers await Netflix's go-ahead

KPop Demon Hunters shot the South Korean animated movie scene to a whole new level no one saw coming. It's not just a movie—it's a musical masterpiece, with its songs topping global charts and even pushing aside some of the biggest K-pop names down a spot. And now, after clocking 56 million views on Netflix, fans want to know if HUNTR/X is coming back for more. The movie opened strong with a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score. While it did justice to Jinu and Rumi's arcs, there's still plenty left to explore when it comes to the other characters. The ending left the door wide open, HUNTR/X is back on stage, but Jinu's fate and the deeper lore are still untouched. Here's what the makers have to say.

The story follows Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji Young Yoo), the characters inspired by real-life K-pop bands. In the film, the three juggle K-pop superstardom as HUNTR/X by day and demon hunting by night, a responsibility passed down through generations. Their biggest challenge is to take down rival demonic boy band, the Saja Boys. A climactic battle at Namsan Tower sees HUNTR/X come together through music, while Jinu (Ahn Hyo Seop), a demon-turned-ally, sacrifices himself to save Rumi after her half-demon, half-hunter identity is exposed mid-performance, setting off a chain of events. The ending leaves the door wide open for a sequel. But for now, Netflix hasn't given it the green light. That said, co-director Maggie Kang told Variety, 'We've set up so much for potential backstory. There are a lot of questions left unanswered and areas that are not explored, and we had to do that because there's only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes.'

According to the showrunner, 'This was Rumi's story, and we have backstories for Zoey and Mira, ones that we actually put in the movie, but it just kind of rejected it. It just wasn't the movie for those stories,' Kang continued. Meanwhile, the voice cast of Cho, Hong and Yoo are also onboard for a second season. 'I've already told Maggie [Kang] and Chris [Appelhans] that there has to be a follow-up,' Yoo said during an interview in June 2025. 'I would totally do it again. I'll be honestly, a little bummed if we can't do a sequel.'
While Netflix hasn't confirmed a sequel yet, there's a strong chance the announcement could drop any day now. In its first week on the OTT charts, the film landed at No. 2 on the English Films List with 9.2 million views. By week two, it shot to No. 1 with another 24.2 million views, dominating the top spot in 93 countries in one sweep. Even in week three, it held strong at No. 2. And it's not just the film, the multi-singer original soundtrack is also tearing through the music scene.

Singer Cheryl Tweedy 'Heartbroken' Over Liam Payne's Netflix Show, Worries For His Son

Last Updated: Singer Cheryl Tweedy found it heartbreaking when Liam Payne's final TV show, Building The Band, was released on Netflix. Payne died after a fall in Buenos Aires. Cheryl Tweedy found it 'heartbreaking" when Liam Payne's final TV show was released on Netflix. The 31-year-old singer/songwriter filmed Building The Band before his tragic death following a fall from a balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina last year and Cheryl, 42, the mother of his eight-year-old son Bear, has reportedly found it difficult to deal with the release of the show. A source told the Mirror: 'It is very sad for Cheryl. She's very proud that Liam's final project is now available for the world to see, but obviously it's heartbreaking, too, after Liam's death. It's a poignant reminder to Cheryl – and to his fans – of how much more Liam could have done with his life. But that potential was tragically cut short." Cheryl – who dated Liam from 2016 to 2018 – is said to be worried about how the show will affect Bear. The insider explained, 'He had so much going for him, as well as being a devoted father to Bear. It's another reason why Cheryl wanted to continue with her own TV career – to show Bear that there is life after losing Liam, that you can be strong and that he can pick himself up. He can be anything he wants to be in life." Building The Band host AJ McClean paid a poignant tribute to Liam at the beginning of the first episode. He said, 'When we came together to film Building The Band, we never imagined we'd soon be saying goodbye to our friend, Liam Payne. Liam is a guest judge in later episodes and, through his presence, we see his deep love for music and his unwavering commitment to helping others find their voice. It's through that spirit that we dedicate this series to Liam and his family." First Published:
