The Hindu24-07-2025
Actor Ike Barinholtz is in negotiations to portray tech billionaire Elon Musk in Luca Guadagnino's upcoming film Artificial, a comedic drama centered on the world of artificial intelligence. The project is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios.
Best known for roles in The Mindy Project, Blockers, and most recently Apple TV's The Studio, which earned him an Emmy nomination, Barinholtz is expected to take on the role of Musk during a dramatised retelling of the 2023 OpenAI boardroom shakeup. The film is said to explore the dramatic few days when Sam Altman was ousted and swiftly reinstated as OpenAI CEO.
While plot details remain under wraps, Andrew Garfield is reportedly set to play Altman, with Yura Borisov, fresh off his Oscar nomination for Anora, expected to play Ilya Sutskever, the OpenAI co-founder who played a pivotal role in the leadership upheaval.
Artificial was written by Simon Rich, whose previous credits include An American Pickle. Rich also serves as producer, alongside David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films, and Jennifer Fox.
The film continues Guadagnino's partnership with Amazon MGM, following previous collaborations on Challengers (2024), Bones and All (2022), and Suspiria (2018).
The director's next project, After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri, is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival later this year.

The first poster of the film unveiled by Amazon MGM Studios teases the quintessential Quentin Tarantino-themed gangster-drama with a blend of quintessential 80s Bollywood had announced the film in June 2025. The quirky, colourful first look of 'Nishaanchi' depicts raw, grassroots narrative, seen earlier in films such as 'Gangs of Wasseypur', 'Gulaal', 'Mukkebaaz', etc. The viewers get an impression of realism along with mainstream cinematic flair. The adrenaline-fuelled gritty crime-drama promises to be a true-blue masala entertainer based on the underworld. (Credit: Instagram/Amazon MGM Studios) advertisementAt its core, 'Nishaanchi' is about debutant Aaishvary in a compelling double role— as twin brothers leading starkly different lives, caught in a storm that's ready to erupt. The unique retro-style poster is also metaphorical of a multi-layered, unapologetically dramatic scenario where love, revenge, and destiny collide. The film also features a powerful ensemble cast including Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra, in pivotal roles. Opening up about the project, Anurag Kashyap said in a statement, 'We wrote 'Nishaanchi' in 2016. Since then, I have been looking to make this film the way it should be, and was looking for a studio who trusted me to do that, whole heartedly. Amazon MGM loved it, believed in it, and became the wall behind us. This is exactly what happened with all my films that people love - they were backed by great producers and great Studios. 'Nishaanchi' is a story full of raw human emotions, love, lust, power, crime and punishment, betrayal, redemption and the consequences of it all."This gritty, emotionally charged saga is produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under the banner of Jar Pictures, in association with Flip Films, and is written by Prasoon Mishra, Ranjan Chandel, and Anurag Kashyap.'Nishaanchi' is set to release in theatres in India on September 19, 2025.- Ends

OpenAI's GPT-5 may arrive on Microsoft Copilot alongside ChatGPT: Report

Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI is set to benefit the Windows maker yet again. OpenAI is gearing up to release GPT-5 in August, and ahead of the launch, Microsoft has reportedly been spotted testing it in Copilot. According to a report by technology-focused news platform TestingCatalog, Microsoft's experimentation with GPT-5 features within the Copilot interface suggests that Copilot is likely to gain GPT-5 as soon as it becomes available on ChatGPT. TestingCatalog reportedly spotted a new 'Smart' mode on the Copilot app and website. What does this mean for users Copilot already supports multiple chat modes, each powered by different AI models, and this new addition could streamline interactions by eliminating the need to switch modes manually. According to Windows Central, the presence of this 'Smart' mode also implies that GPT-5 may blend complex reasoning with faster, lighter responses, possibly combining both capabilities in a single system. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has hinted at this direction in model development earlier. This mode is said to enable Microsoft Copilot to be able to think deeply or quickly, depending on the task. In simpler terms, it means that Copilot will adapt its response style based on the input that the user provides it with. GPT-5 launch: What to expect OpenAI is reportedly preparing to release its GPT-5 model as early as August, according to The Verge. GPT-5 is reportedly designed to move beyond the traditional single-model approach. Instead, it will operate as a more flexible system capable of combining multiple models, each tailored for specific tasks. CEO Sam Altman previously indicated that GPT-5 would integrate OpenAI's o3 model along with other technologies, aiming to streamline the company's growing AI portfolio. In the long run, OpenAI intends to unify its GPT and o-series architectures into a single, versatile framework—one capable of leveraging various tools and handling a broader range of functions. The model is anticipated to introduce multiple tiers of reasoning and capability. Free ChatGPT users will reportedly get basic access, while Plus and Premium subscribers will receive enhanced versions. It's still unclear which tier of GPT-5 Microsoft Copilot will implement, but the company is likely to move quickly to integrate the new model once it becomes available. In related news, Microsoft has added a new Copilot Mode to its Edge browser, bringing AI-driven tools that enhance the web browsing experience. The feature isn't enabled by default, but once activated, it allows users to search, ask questions, and engage with websites using the built-in Microsoft Copilot panel.

Zuckerberg pivots to personal intelligence, underscores AI safety in Meta's new AI plan

Mark Zuckerberg is betting on personal intelligence as the boss of the social networking platform. The Meta CEO shared his vision to bring 'personal superintelligence to everyone.' 'As profound as the abundance produced by AI may one day be, an even more meaningful impact on our lives will likely come from everyone having a personal superintelligence that helps you achieve your goals, create what you want to see in the world, experience any adventure, be a better friend to those you care about, and grow to become the person you aspire to be,' he said in a company blog. Claiming his vision is different from the one rival AI firms are pursuing, Mr. Zuckerberg said 'the benefits of superintelligence should be shared with the world as broadly as possible.' Cautioning that the advances in AI will raise novel safety concerns, he said there is a 'need to be rigorous about mitigating these risks and careful about what we choose to open source.' Mr. Zuckerberg has been ramping up Meta with top AI talent with attractive compensation packages. The new recruits in the superintelligence team will be led by former Scale AI CEO, Alexandr Wang. Shengjia Zhao, the co-creator of OpenAI's ChatGPT will serve as chief scientist of the team.
