Congress alleges irregularities in BMC's Rs 2,368-crore tender for cleaning up Deonar landfill
Raising the Point of Propriety in the Assembly, Patole said while hundreds of acres of land have been given to Adani in Dharavi for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP), the BMC has been forced to bear the burden of Rs 2,368 crore to clear the Deonar dumping ground for Adani to shift ineligible Dharavi residents to Deonar. He said 'there was a gang war in the state cabinet over the project' and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis must clarify on it.
'In Dharavi, 311 acres of land is being given to Adani but the BMC is going to clean up the Deonar dumping ground for Adani. The BMC is already on way to becoming bankrupt but it is spending Rs 2,368 crore for Adani. Nearly 50,000 ineligible residents of Dharavi are going to be shifted to Deonar on rental housing basis. The BMC is going to impose a garbage collection fee from Mumbaikars to make up for this spending. This is nothing but a loot of Mumbaikars and people of the state,' Patole said.
The BMC has extended its deadline for the Rs 2,368 crore tender to appoint a contractor to carry out bioremediation of 185 lakh tonnes of waste and reclaim 110 hectares of land at the Deonar site over a period of three years. Bioremediation is a process involving treating garbage with the help of natural elements like air, sunlight, and microorganisms. Over time, as the biodegradable waste decomposes, the remaining non-biodegradable extracts are either recycled or treated artificially. According to civic data, of the 1.85 crore metric tonnes of waste which is currently stacked at the site, nearly 48 per cent comprises construction debris, 41 per cent is inert waste while 10 per cent is accounted for by dry, miscellaneous waste.

Rahul Gandhi's photo on sanitary pads in Bihar: JD-U slams Congress for 'ideological bankruptcy'
New Delhi: Congress party's unique women-centric initiative and public outreach via sanitary pads has sparked controversy in the poll-bound Bihar, with political parties reacting sharply to what they called 'weird' attempt to woo voters. The ruling Janata Dal (United) launched a tirade at the grand old party for politicizing issues sensitive to women and called it an example of its ideological bankruptcy. The criticism was triggered by a photograph of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi featuring prominently on sanitary pad packets, being distributed under the party's Priyadarshini Udaan Yojana, aimed at raising menstrual hygiene awareness among women in Bihar. The Congress launched the initiative as part of a larger campaign for women voters in the state. The party claimed that over 5 lakh sanitary pad boxes will be distributed, with an aim to address menstrual health, break social taboos, and also spread awareness across rural and urban areas alike. However, JD-U spokesperson Neeraj Kumar strongly criticised the Congress over the move. "What has happened to the Congress Party?" he asked, calling the strategy a shallow electoral gimmick. 'Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been working continuously to empower the daughters and sisters of state, to empower them and to build a robust landscape for their overall development. The election year has come; daughters, women are a symbol of respect and honour, but you, in an arrogant display of power, put your face on it (sanitary pads),' he said, slamming the use of Rahul Gandhi's image on the sanitary pads. Neeraj Kumar further said the Congress's alliance with a party like the RJD has led to such political missteps. 'It shows, in politics, what is called ideological bankruptcy or lack of intellect. Not understanding the situation, or, naturally, the outcomes of being with a party like RJD, which is known for its political misdeeds, the effect of that co-operation was seen.' The sanitary pad distribution is part of the party's Priyadarshini Udaan Yojana, under which the Congress claims to be advocating for menstrual hygiene and awareness. In addition, the party has unveiled the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, a flagship welfare scheme for the economic empowerment for women. Under the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, the Congress promises to provide Rs 2,500 per month directly into the bank accounts of economically disadvantaged women, if the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) forms the government in Bihar.

Construction of houses in Goa under PMAY nears completion: Official
PANAJI : The Goa government has completed the construction of 250 houses out of the target of 254 for eligible beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), an official said on Thursday. The project, aimed at providing affordable housing, has been implemented at a total cost of Rs 3.4 crore, the official said. Under the project, there was a target of constructing 254 houses for eligible beneficiaries in the state, said P K Shirodkar, nodal officer in-charge of the scheme and director of the District Rural Development Agency. "We have constructed 250 houses till date by meticulously following all the procedures under this scheme. The remaining four houses will be completed within the next two to three months," Shirodkar said. The Goa government led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has spent Rs 3.4 crore for the project till date, he said. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a flagship scheme of the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government is providing affordable houses to all eligible rural households, he said. The scheme is shared between the Centre and the state in the ratio of 60:40, with 60 per cent funding by the Government of India and 40 per cent by the local government. The official said the disbursement under this scheme should be increased from Rs 1.2 lakh to a higher amount as the construction cost of houses in Goa is higher compared to other states. "For example, to build a house of 50 sq metres, a minimum of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh is required as a basic necessity," he said. As the target is about to be completed, the state government has conducted a survey of eligible beneficiary who would be covered in the current financial year, Shirodkar said. Mathura Vithal Desai, who lives in the remote Advalpal village in Bicholim taluka of North Goa district, lauded the government scheme and recalled how her house needed desperate repairs and they were short of funds. Her six-member family used to stay in a mud house earlier. "The situation was worse during rains. We even had snakes entering our house," she said. "After we applied for the PMAY, we got the money. We invested some more money from our savings and got the house constructed," Desai said. Similar is the case with Rohini Rohidas Kuttikar from Odlebhat -?? St Cruz near Panaji. She said it was due to the government support under the PMAY scheme that they could build their house.
