Deebo Samuel: Washington one of the best possible fits for me
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is set to join the Commanders in a trade once the new league year is underway and he penned a lengthy farewell to the 49ers on Thursday.
Samuel's piece for The Players Tribune reiterated that there was no 'bad blood' toward the team and that he will 'forever be grateful' for his time with the NFC West club. Samuel also began looking toward what's next.
The Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship Game during quarterback Jayden Daniels's rookie season and Samuel, who went to two Super Bowls with the Niners, said that he thinks the 2025 season could be an even bigger one thanks to what he can add to an offense that also features wideout Terry McLaurin.
'I think this is one of the best possible fits for me, where I can go in and help a team,' Samuel wrote. 'Honestly, when my agent asked me where I wanted to go, this was one of the teams at the top of my list. I started watching Jayden because of [Brandon] Aiyuk, that's like his best friend. We used to chill, watch LSU games, and I knew he was going to be a stud. I've got some connections already with the coaching staff. Definitely ready to work with Terry for sure, because we came in the league at the same time. I've heard how hard he grinds. I'm just ready to match the energy and get to it. Shit. . . . I got a feeling this season is about to be one of them ones.'
The taste of success that the Commanders got in 2024 likely has them feeling the same way about the coming campaign and Samuel should have plenty of opportunities to help them reach that potential.

Could Commanders' Jayden Daniels Suffer 'C.J. Stroud Effect' In Year 2?
Could Commanders' Jayden Daniels Suffer 'C.J. Stroud Effect' In Year 2? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There isn't too much the Washington Commanders have to "worry" about when it comes to Jayden Daniels in Year 2, but one thing is the dreaded sophomore slump. Advertisement Players who often have a stellar rookie season sometimes struggle to replicate it due to a variety of reasons, including teams figuring out their tendencies, roster changes, or a combination of both. But there doesn't seem to be much concern about that happening with Jayden. Although the Houston Texans thought that about C.J. Stroud, who did regress a little in Year 2. For Fox Sports' Henry McKenna, in a "What Could Go Right, Wrong for Every NFC QB" scenario for 2025, Daniels goes full Stroud. "After seeing what happened to Stroud in Year 2, there's a growing sense of anxiety for sophomore quarterbacks," McKenna writes. "So could Daniels be the latest QB to fall prey to that sophomore slump? Well, yeah, absolutely. Remember that star receiver Terry McLaurin is locked in a contract battle with Washington. We've seen negotiations influence training camp reps — and, in turn, negatively impact QB-WR rapport. It's hard to sustain success in the NFL. Daniels' second year might be yet another example of that." Advertisement Stroud actually won one more game in Year 2, still made the playoffs, and won a playoff game. Yes, his stats were down across the board, and his general play wasn't consistent, but we aren't sure if it was a "slump" of sorts. For Daniels, replicating his efforts from last year is going to be tough, after winning Offensive Rookie of the Year and making it to the NFC Championship game, so we have to be careful about expecting too much from a second-year quarterback. As bad as it sounds, a 10-7 season and making the playoffs is a "regression" for Daniels, but it would still be a good season, providing his level of play doesn't dip too much. Will Daniels be able to hold off the C.J. Stroud effect in 2025? That'll be the hope. Commanders QB Jayden Daniels Ranks With Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes on 'Untradeable' List
Commanders QB Jayden Daniels Ranks With Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes on 'Untradeable' List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Josh Allen is there. Patrick Mahomes is there. Is Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels there, too? Advertisement Cowherd's list. Not only did he rave about the former No. 2 pick, he said he's the NFL's next superstar. On "The Herd" on FS1, host Colin Cowherd unveiled his list of the most "untradeable" athletes in sports. Buffalo Bills star Allen and Kansas City Chiefs star Mahomes were high on that list. And the third QB placed in a lofty place? Second-year guy Daniels. "I think he's our next superstar in the NFL," Cowherd said. "I thought last year was the greatest rookie season by far. He took over a franchise that was a laughingstock for 15-20 years. Relevance, maturity, arm, movement - to the nation's capital. There's an argument they're going to become Kansas City in the NFC." Advertisement Daniels put up numbers - he threw for 3,568 yards with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions, with 891 yards and six TDs on the ground, during his rookie season - and he did it with unflinching character. He ran away with Rookie of the Year voting stuff ... and now many think he's headed toward MVP contention ... especially if the Commanders - who shocked the NFL with their advancement to the NFC title game a year ago - remain true contenders for a Super Bowl berth. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn gets all of that. "There is no flinch in Jayden Daniels," DQ said. "He is ... as focused and relentless as you could be about getting better. ... And if he does that, I do that, others do that … there's a lot of space we can get better at." Advertisement So much "better'' that Daniels is about to join Allen and Mahomes at the top of the NFL QB totem pole? That's the plan. Related: Could Commanders' Jayden Daniels Suffer 'C.J. Former UNC wide receiver praises Bill Belichick for his coaching style
This former UNC football player had some nice things to say about Chapel Bill. 2024 was another lost football season for the North Carolina Tar Heels, whom – despite clinching their sixth-consecutive trip to a bowl game – finished with their second losing record in four seasons. If you thought last year was bad for UNC, take a look at Florida State. The Seminoles started 2024 ranked, as they typically are, then proceeded to win just two games. North Carolina reloaded its roster this offseason under new head coach Bill Belichick, who brings eight Super Bowls and countless experience to Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels' greatest replacements come on defense, though, replacing their entire starting defensive line with the likes of Pryce Yates and Vilbert Smith. Gavin Blackwell, who played his first four collegiate seasons at UNC, had an opportunity to learn from Belichick for a few months. Now on FSU, Blackwell praised his former head coach, despite never suiting up for him. "He was great," Blackwell said. "Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about Coach (Bill) Belichick. He loves football. Everything you see online and stuff like that, I would kind of say the media portrays it a little bit differently than what it is inside the building. He loves his players, he loves his coaches and he's all about ball. He kind of brought more of an NFL aspect to college and that's kind of what they're running there. But himself, he's down-to-earth dude, not a big-headed guy. You can go up to him, have a conversation, talk ball with him. He loves that type of stuff and when you show that you're interested, he's gonna make sure he gives you that same respect and try to help you as much as he can. He's got eight Super Bowls. Great dude, wish them the best." Blackwell redshirted his first collegiate season in 2021, appearing in just one game, but emerged the following year with 239 receiving yards and his lone touchdown. Now on a Mike Norvell-led roster desperately searching for productive talent, Blackwell has a real chance to put up WR1 numbers.
