STP not functional, FIR filed against AOA
Noida: Noida Authority has filed a police complaint against the apartment welfare association (AOA) of Supertech Cape Town in Sector 74 for dumping untreated sewage in the drain running through the sector. According to National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines, highrise societies must have functional sewage treatment plants (STPs) on the premises. RP Singh, general manager (Jal), Noida Authority, said that inspections were conducted at the society on Friday, and it was found that the STP was not working as per the prescribed standard. This is affecting the underground water and also the public health of local residents. This is also affecting the structure of the condominium," Singh said. Dumping untreated water like this is a violation of NGT orders, and the pollution department has imposed around Rs 35.8 crore in fines for various violations on the society in the past, the official added. Following the Authority's complaint, an FIR was registered against the AOA under BNS Section 272 (malignant acts likely to spread infection of a disease dangerous to life) at the Sector 113 police station. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo However, the society's AOA president, Arun Kumar, called the FIR unjust. "The developer started giving possession to home buyers in this society from 2015. Nearly 4,419 people got completion certificates in this society. The AOA was formed in 2019. However, the developer handed over the society's management with an incomplete STP," he said. Previously, the AOA has written to the developer urging them to complete the project, and have also informed the Noida Authority of this issue. Meanwhile, a Supertech spokesperson said that the company handed over the project to the AOA as per the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). In 2022, the NGT found that only 76 of the 95 highrise societies in the city had STPs installed on the premises. However, many of those were not working as per prescribed standards. A recent RTI reply revealed that 43 group housing societies in the city lack the mandatory consent to operate (CTO) for their STPs. Previously, the Noida Authority has filed police complaints against nine other condominiums for STP norm violations.

Sort out waste or we won't collect it: Noida
Noida: Noida Authority will stop collecting mixed waste from bulk waste generators (BWGs) from July 1. During a workshop at Panchsheel Boys Inter College in Sector 91, officials informed hoteliers, restaurateurs and market associations that a penalty of Rs 500 would be imposed would be imposed for unsegregated waste after the deadline. General manager (health) of Noida Authority, SP Singh, said a cluster-based decentralised composting plan has been drawn up to support this shift. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida "Under the scheme, land for composting units will be provided by the authority, but the cost of setting up and operating them must be borne by the participants. Any establishment, be it a hotel, restaurant, hospital, RWA, AOA, etc, that generates more than 100 kgs of waste per day falls under the BWG category and is obligated to set up an on-site composting unit," he said. Under the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016, bulk generators are required to treat their wet waste on-site. During the workshop, instructions were given on how to segregate waste into different categories like wet waste, dry waste, hazardous waste, medical waste, etc. According to estimates, Noida generates nearly 800 tons of solid waste per day, out of which nearly 30% originates from BWG premises.

Swachh test nearing, Noida plans to clear 5 lakh tonnes of waste
Noida: Noida Authority — which is striving for a 7-star rating in Swachh survey — is planning to dispose of an additional 5 lakh tonnes of legacy waste from its temporary dumping site in Sector 145. The move will make it one of the city's largest waste remediation projects, with a total of 15 lakh tonnes processed at the site. Alfa Therm Ltd, which took up the project in Dec 2022, has already processed 10 lakh tonnes of trash. The company initially received a contract for five lakh tonnes through bioremediation and later got an extension to process another five. A recent drone survey by the public health department revealed that while 69,900sqm had been reclaimed after clearing garbage, about 3.5 lakh tonnes of legacy waste remained at the site. Apart from this waste, 1,000-1,200 tonnes of fresh municipal garbage is dumped at the landfill daily. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida The Authority has devised a two-pronged strategy to complete the clean-up. It plans to extend the existing contract to process 1.5 lakh tonnes and issue a new tender for the remaining two lakh tonnes, along with managing the waste that is collected from households daily. The extension work is estimated to cost Rs 12 crore and will need six months to complete. The land will be available for development once the waste is completely removed, officials said. Officials said they were concerned the cleanup process might take a hit during the monsoon. "After one day of rain, the waste remains wet for up to seven days, delaying the disposal process," an official said. The cleanup is crucial for the city's environmental initiatives. The Authority has partnered with NTPC for torrefied charcoal and Everenviro Resource Management for bio-CNG production. A waste-to-energy plant under construction at Astauli is expected to be operational within a year.
