Delhi To Host Yoga Events At 11 Locations, 20,000 Expected To Participate
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Delhi government will officially celebrate International Yoga Day at 11 locations across the city, marking a significant scale-up in efforts to promote yoga. Approximately 20,000 people are expected to participate in these government-organised events.
She criticised the previous government for allegedly politicising yoga and failing to organise official programs. A special yoga song for Delhi, composed by Amit Trivedi, has been introduced for the occasion.
"The Delhi government has decided that Yoga Day will be officially celebrated at 11 places. For the first time, the government is organising big events for Yoga Day on a large scale in Delhi, in which about 20,000 participants will participate in all these government programs. I have received more than 300 invites for Yoga Day, in which the people of Delhi want me to come. The previous government used to see Modi Ji's face in Yoga. So, they had problems adopting yoga, and they never officially organised yoga programs. This time, a very beautiful Yoga song for Delhi has been sung by Amit Trivedi," she said.
Delhi Chief Minister asserted that she will practice Yoga on the banks of the Yamuna on the International Day of Yoga.
Speaking to the media ahead of International Yoga Day, she said, "Tomorrow I will practice Yoga on the banks of Yamuna... Tomorrow will be celebrated like a festival in many places in Delhi... The Delhi government will celebrate this International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm."
Earlier in the day, she said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi made Yoga Day recognised on the world stage so that every country in the world is adopting Yoga with great affection today.
Addressing an event at a Yoga, Meditation, and Medical Camp in Delhi's Shalimar Bagh ahead of International Yoga Day tomorrow, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, "PM Modi got Yoga recognised on the world stage in such a way that every country in the world is adopting Yoga with great affection today... India will be able to prosper only if it remains healthy."
As India is gearing up to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21, the government is organising a multitude of events nationwide to mark the occasion with "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" as this year's theme.

"Fuel Ban On End-Of-Life Vehicles Not Feasible" Delhi Minister To Pollution Body
New Delhi: Delhi's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has written to Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) seeking a rollback of the End-of-Life (EOL) vehicle impounding order, citing technological and logistical hurdles. "Because of several critical operational and infrastructural challenges, it will not be feasible to implement this order at this juncture. In fact, immediate implementation may be premature and potentially counterproductive," Sirsa stated in the letter Minister Flags Serious Operational Challenges In a detailed three-page letter addressed to the CAQM chief, Mr Sirsa stressed on the premature timing of rollout of the measure, raising on-ground technological and logistical gaps. 1. Technological Gaps In ANPR Systems Mr Sirsa's letter highlighted multiple shortcomings in the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, that underpins the enforcement mechanism: Technical Glitches: Widespread issues, including malfunctioning sensors, faulty speakers, poor camera placement and software lags were reported across fuel stations. Incomplete Integration: The ANPR system is not yet integrated with the databases of neighbouring NCR states, creating loopholes in enforcement. HSRP Challenges: Vehicles without updated High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are not reliably detected by the system, leading to misidentification or oversight. "These issues require adequate trial-and-error corrections and field-level calibration before city-wide rollout," the minister noted. 2. Call for Holistic And Regional Implementation The letter also cautioned that enforcing the ban exclusively in Delhi would only displace the problem, rather than solve it. Cross-Border Loopholes: Vehicle owners might simply procure fuel from adjacent districts, like Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, undermining the intent of the ban. Illegal Fuel Market: Isolated enforcement in Delhi could unintentionally lead to the emergence of an illicit fuel supply network across district borders. Lack of Readiness In NCR: Neighbouring districts have reportedly not begun installing ANPR cameras at fuel stations, raising questions about the feasibility of a coordinated regional strategy. Delhi Government's Alternative Anti-Pollution Measures: The Delhi Government informed CAQM of a series of alternative initiatives currently underway to reduce vehicular pollution. These include: Massive Green Cover Drive: Over 70 lakh trees and shrubs are set to be planted this year. Technological Innovations: The government is exploring advanced interventions, like cloud seeding for air quality improvement. PUC Regime Overhaul: Strengthening the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certification system for better compliance. Mandatory Anti-Smog Guns: High-rise commercial buildings will be required to install anti-smog guns to tackle construction-related dust pollution. CM Rekha Gupta Echoes Citizens' Concerns, Urges Review Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took to social media platform X to express solidarity with citizens facing inconvenience over the now-scrapped order. "In view of the difficulties being faced by the citizens of Delhi, our Government has written to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) requesting that the decision of not providing fuel to End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles be reconsidered," she posted.

Delhi govt working on long-term solution for sustainable transportation: CM
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday said her government is working on long-term solutions for clean and sustainable transportation, after the government urged the Centre's air quality panel to immediately suspend the fuel ban on overage vehicles. In his letter to Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) chairman Rajesh Verma, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the fuel ban is not feasible and that it cannot be implemented due to technological challenges. The move came three days after the ban came into effect in the national capital. "In view of the hardships being faced by the citizens of Delhi, our government has written to the CAQM, requesting a reconsideration of the decision to stop supplying fuel to end-of-life (EOL) vehicles. This decision is adversely affecting the daily lives and livelihoods of millions of families," Gupta said in a post on X in Hindi. She said her government is fully committed to controlling air pollution and is working on long-term solutions for clean and sustainable transportation. "However, while implementing any decision, it is equally important to maintain a balance with the social and economic needs of the citizens," she added. Gupta said through a letter sent by Sirsa, they have urged that this order be immediately put on hold in the public interest, "and that a practical, just, and phased solution be formulated after consultations with all stakeholders". The Delhi government stands firmly with the people of Delhi in its commitment to public welfare and convenience, she said.

From handcrafted Bonsai, medicinal and ornamental plants, to plants known for improving air quality, the exhibition offers an immersive green experience for the public. Another key feature is the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary stall, exhibiting the rich biodiversity of the Aravalli range. "The exhibition is open to the public for two days where everyone can get a free sapling to plant in their mothers' name under the Ek Ped Maa ke Naam 2.0 campaign," said a statement from the Delhi govt.
