JIT to issue arrest warrants for 20 PTI leaders
According to sources, the decision was made after the PTI leaders failed to cooperate with the investigation, despite receiving multiple summons from the JIT. Notices were reportedly served at the residences of all individuals concerned.
Among those facing arrest are senior PTI figures including Waqas Akram, Hammad Azhar, Zulfi Bukhari, Aon Abbas, Mian Aslam, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Taimur Saleem, and Jibran Ilyas. Warrants are also expected to be issued for Khalid Khurshid, Shahbaz Gill, Azhar Mashwani and several others. State broadcaster Radio Pakistan earlier reported that the JIT possesses solid evidence against these individuals.
The JIT, which is headed by the inspector general of Islamabad, was formed under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 to probe anti-state activities linked to social media content.
Several prominent PTI figures — including party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz, and Imran Khan's sister Aleema Khan — have already appeared before the JIT during the course of the investigation.
According to sources, those summoned were questioned extensively about their social media handlers and controversial posts related to the military and state institutions. They were reportedly shown specific content and asked to clarify its origin and purpose.
In addition to questions on social media activity, the probe has also delved into the party's financial matters. Barrister Gohar and others were also questioned about party's financing. PTI has submitted complete records related to party funds to the JIT.
The JIT had previously warned of strict action against those who failed to appear before it.

Listen to article The opposition, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), on Sunday expelled five members of the National Assembly for going against the party line during the vote on the 26th Constitutional Amendment in the National Assembly in October last month. According to separate notifications issued by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the expelled members are Aurangzeb Khichi, Zahoor Hussain Qureshi, Usman Ali, Mubarak Zeb and Ilyas Chaudhry. These independent lawmakers were supported by the PTI in the 2024 general elections. The similarly-worded notifications stated that these lawmakers violated the party instructions and voted in favour of the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill on October 21, 2024, while the party in a meeting had unanimously decided to oppose the amendment. "You are hereby declared to have violated your commitment, oath and loyalty to the Party. You have acted contrary to the instructions of the Party as you voted in favor of 26th Constitutional (Amendment) Bill 2024," said one of five notifications, sent to Qureshi. "And by [that] conduct [you] have joined another Parliamentary Party in the National Assembly. You are therefore expelled from the Party (PTI) forthwith. Needless to add that you also stand disqualified on account of the aforesaid conduct," it added. The 26th Amendment was passed with a two-thirds majority. Among the opposition parties, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) had supported the government after several rounds of negotiations. The PTI however, chose to oppose the bill. Yet the government was able to get five members on its side. Soon after the bill was passed, the PTI decided to take legal action against its lawmakers who had violated the party policy. At that time, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had said that these lawmakers had been elected as independents; therefore, they were not bound by any party decision. The PTI's notifications on Sunday said that notices were issued to the dissenting National Assembly members on November 5, 2024 to show cause why they "should not be declared to have defected" from the party, but "you did not respond to the notice". The notifications also stated that these members deserved of disqualification from being elected representatives for joining another party. The PTI chairman demanded of the National Assembly speaker to disqualify that these members. Among the expelled members Khichi was elected to the National Assembly from NA-159 Vehari-IV; Qureshi from NA-146 Khanewal-III; Usman Ali from NA.142, Sahiwal-II; Muhammad Ilyas Choudhry from NA.62, Gujrat-I and Mubarak Zeb from NA.8, Bajaur.

Gandapur renews offer for talks with 'real power'
Listen to article Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said on Sunday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was willing to hold talks with those who "hold real power", as the party formally launched a movement for restoring democracy and securing Khan's release. However, some key members of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led governments at the Centre as well as in Punjab immediately turned down the offer, saying that the PTI founder would have to hold dialogue with political forces, if he wished so. Speaking at a news conference in Lahore alongside senior PTI leaders, Gandapur emphasised that former prime minister Imran Khan would only engage in dialogue with stakeholders who hold actual decision-making authority. "Imran Khan has made it clear — dialogue will only happen with those who hold the mandate," he said. "It does not matter if they [the establishment] invite those who formed the governments through Form 47 to sit in the negotiations or not," he said. Gandapur said that although the party had remained active over the past two years, it was now embarking upon a structured 90-day nationwide campaign, which would culminate in a major milestone on August 5. "This protest is not for political mileage — this is a battle for the constitutional rights of the people," he said. "By August 5, we aim to take this movement to its peak. After that, we will decide whether we continue politics under the current conditions." Gandapur condemned what he described as a renewed "fascist crackdown" on the PTI and its supporters. He alleged that party workers were subjected to torture following the events of May 9, 2023, as the authorities continued to suppress their constitutional right to protest. The chief minister reiterated the party position that there was no legal basis for the cases instituted against party founder Imran Khan. "The courts haven't proceeded because there's nothing to proceed with. Our leader is innocent," Gandapur said. Criticising the role of state institutions, Gandapur accused them of overreach and undermining democracy. He claimed that the state's actions against PTI had backfired because of the rising public awareness. "The nation proved on February 8 that it is fully aware of what's happening," he added. In a sharp rebuke to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who said on Saturday that any change in K-P should come from within the party, Gandapur challenged Fazl to contest by-election in his hometown of Dera Ismail Khan against his brother, Faisal, and if he [Fazl] won, he [Gandapur] would quit politics. Gandapur dismissed claims of any internal divisions within the PTI, calling them an engineered narrative to weaken the party. "We may have disagreements, but our mission is united — Imran Khan's release and Pakistan's restoration," he said. On the occasion, PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja echoed this stance, stating that the party's unity in Lahore demonstrated unwavering support for Khan. "His release is not just the party's goal — it's the nation's demand. February 8 will not be forgotten," Raja said. Concluding the press conference, Gandapur renewed his offer for negotiations, urging "the beneficiaries of the system" to come to the negotiating table. He warned that if dialogue did not take place in good faith, "every actor proven guilty will have to face the consequences — not just PTI." Reacting to Gandapur's news conference, Federal Minister for State and Frontier Regions (Safron) Amir Muqam stated that those who always ran away from the negotiating table were now ironically speaking of dialogue. He dismissed Gandapur's 90-day ultimatum as mere theatrics. "Gandapur has no real authority. The PTI's 90-day campaign is merely a tactic to save the provincial government, which is already under threat from internal dissent. Their campaign has failed even before it began," he said. "The nation has rejected their politics of sit-ins, long marches, and violence. These are just desperate moves driven by their lust for power," he said. "If Imran Khan genuinely seeks dialogue, he must first bow before the law, admit his mistakes, and repent from the politics of hatred," he added. He said the people of K-P were demanding accountability of the PTI's 11-year rule in the province. "Gandapur should first answer to the people of the K-P. You have seen development in Lahore - what have you done for your own province?" he asked. Talking to the media persons in Faisalabad, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry claimed that the establishment did not want to be part of any political process and that if the PTI wished to hold talks, it must return to the negotiations process started by the National Assembly speaker earlier this year. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said that political matters were settled through dialogue between political leaders. "It is a settled fact — you have to talk to the political people, and dialogue happens only among politicians," she said. The provincial minister criticised the PTI and its founder, Imran Khan, stating, "We have seen many deadlines and calls for protest from Imran Khan. Did any protests actually happen? Gandapur's Punjab visit stirs ticket controversy
K-P CM Ali Amin Gandapur's visit to Punjab was primarily aimed at rallying support for PTI Senate ticket holder from K-P, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, a candidate who, reportedly, faces internal allegations of securing his ticket through unfair means. A well-placed PTI source, speaking to The Express Tribune, claimed that the nature of the PTI convoy, led by CM Gandapur to the residence of Afridi, appeared "extraordinary". He said the event gave the impression that the "powers that be" had made an exception for this rally, but later developments suggested a more complex picture. The parliamentary party dinner at Afridi's farmhouse revealed the visit's true purpose, namely, to rally support from party MPAs in Afridi's favour. He noted that within PTI, there are two opinions on the ticket's awarding, with the dominant view being that it involved foul play. The lavish dining and lodging arrangements raised concerns within the party. Afridi is accused of bribing his way to a Senate nomination, allegedly sidelining a loyal party worker, who according to the source has been nominated for the portfolio of party information secretary K-P. It was further alleged that the Gandapur-led provincial government fully backed Afridi. The issue will be taken up with Imran Khan in Tuesday's meeting, with an effort to reverse the decision. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Opp Leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar said the event was organised by the K-P CM and the provincial government. However, he rejected the impression that the police extended a "red carpet" to the convoy. "The convoy, being led by a sitting chief minister and cabinet members, was entitled to police security. There were arrests and baton charges against our workers ... so the suggestion that the event enjoyed the establishment's blessings is incorrect, at least in this regard." K-P Information Minister Barrister Saif was approached for comments but was not available.
