2025's best horror movie has just been added to Time Out's horror hall of fame
Once disregarded as low-grade schlock, horror has become one of Hollywood's most bankable genres, as well as one of its most artistically fruitful. Even so, all-time classics remain hard to come by. On Time Out's list of the 100 greatest horror movies ever made, only a select handful from the past decade have managed to claw their way in – emphasis on 'claw'.
Now, however, there's a brand-new entry, and it's only a few months old. But Ryan Coogler's Sinners is simply undeniable. The Creed and Black Panther director has enough hits under his belt to prove himself as, arguably, the greatest blockbuster filmmaker of his generation. But breaking the box office with established IP is one thing. Doing so with a wholly original story is another, much less an original vampire blues musical period piece.
A visually stunning, thematically rich tale of two twin criminals (both played by Michael B Jordan) having their plans to go straight interrupted by undead bloodsuckers, the film has earned comparisons to the likes of 1996's From Dusk Till Dawn, but in truth it's a large-scale, big-idea epic unlike any other recent blockbuster. A sensation upon release, it's proof there's still money in original stories, and we're betting it's a movie audiences will talk about for years.
Sinners becomes the most recent addition to the Time Out horror canon since Coralie Fargeat's 2024 body horror The Substance.

Ozzy Osbourne's farewell Black Sabbath show in chaos as major act pulls out
One of the acts who was due to appear at Black Sabbath's star-studded Back to the Beginning concert has pulled out of the charity event being held next week. The musician has announced that he now won't be part of the line-up. The sold-out event, which was announced back in February, will be headlined by Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, who are the original members of Black Sabbath. The reunion has been described as Ozzy's "final performance" and is said to be raising money for charities. A host of artists will take to the stage at Villa Park stadium in Birmingham on July 5 for the event, which is set to feature sets from acts like Metallica. It's also been teased that there will be a "supergroup of musicians," which was supposed to include Wolfgang Van Halen, 34. Wolfgang however has now announced that he's had to drop out of the special occasion due to scheduling conflicts. He's shared that his band Mammoth has to be back in the US the next day to rehearse as the support act for Creed on tour. Wolfgang Van Halen has announced that he will no longer perform at the Back to the Beginning concert being held in Birmingham next week (Image: Redferns) He shared the news whilst on radio station WRIF's Talkin' Rock with Meltdown recently. Asked if he will be coming to the UK for the Back to the Beginning concert, he said: "I unfortunately had to back out because the Creed tour starts like the day after and I wouldn't be able to pull it off, unfortunately." Wolfgang - who's the son of Van Halen's Eddie Van Halen - however said that he's still looking forward to the event. He said: "I'm very excited to see ... to watch it, y'know. But I unfortunately had to back out." Creed's Summer of '99 tour is scheduled to kick off at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, on July 9. Mammoth are among the "special guests" who are set to join the band on the tour, alongside Daughtry, Sevendust and Big Wreck. Back to the Beginning was announced four months ago ahead of the one-off concert in July. It was teased at the time that "icons of metal" are coming together to celebrate Ozzy's "final performance" at Villa Park stadium on July 5. The one-off event, headlined by Black Sabbath, marks the 'final performance' of Ozzy Osbourne and is set to feature a host of acts (Image: Getty Images) Alongside the band, it was announced that the line-up will include a host of other acts too. There's said to be sets from Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice In Chains, Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Mastodon. It was also revealed that the line-up will feature a "supergroup," which was meant to include Wolfgang. Other artists previously listed for the event included the Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan and Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash. The event promises to "celebrate the true creators of heavy metal" and Ozzy is scheduled to play his own "short" set, before joining with Black Sabbath for "his final bow". Music Director Tom Morello said: "This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever." In a statement, Ozzy said: "Its my time to go Back to the Beginning ... time for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever." Like this story? BLACK Sabbath's highly-anticipated final show has been hit with a big blow after one of the iconic singers set to perform cancelled. Wolfgang Van Halen has been forced to pull out of the upcoming all-day farewell gig due to a clash with his schedule. 6 Wolfgang Van Halen has pulled out of Black Sabbath's final gig Credit: Getty 6 The singer has backed out due to a clash of schedules Credit: Getty 6 The gig is Ozzy Osbourne's final stage performance due to his worsening health Credit: Getty The 34-year-old US musician realised he has to be back in America the following day for rehearsals ahead of supporting Creed on tour. Speaking to Detroit's Meltdown on 101 WRIF, Wolfgang said: "I, unfortunately, had to back out because the Creed tour starts the day after, and I wouldn't be able to pull it off - unfortunately. "I'm very excited to watch it, but I unfortunately had to back out." Wolfgang and his band Mammonth are the support band for Creed's 2025 tour, which kicks off in Kentucky on July 9. Black Sabbath's final one-off gig is taking place on July 5 in Birmingham. Called Back To The Beginning, it will be frontman and rock veteran Ozzy Osbourne's last time performing on stage amid his worsening diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. The gig is already being touted as "the greatest heavy metal show ever" and will see Ozzy play a short set before reuniting with his bandmates Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward. It will be the first time in 20 years that the original Black Sabbath line-up will have performed together. Ozzy, 76, has vowed it will be his final performance due to his deteriorating health. He went public with his Parkinson's diagnosis in 2020. Back To The Beginning will also feature a mega line-up of fellow rock stars, performing their own sets and as a super-group, and all the profits made will be going to charity. Ozzy Osbourne fights back tears as he thanks wife Sharon for 'saving his life' in appearance at Rock N Roll Hall of Fame The money will be shared equally between Cure Parkinson's, Birmingham Children's Hospital and Acorn Children's Hospice. Metallica and Slayer are on the line-up for main sets as they celebrate Ozzy's remarkable legacy. Pantera, Gojira, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, Lamb Of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon will also play at the show. Other stars who will perform include Duff McKagan and Frank Bello from Anthrax, Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit and The Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan.
