The robbers managed to flee, prompting a joint manhunt by the GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) to identify and apprehend the culprits.
According to Guntur Railway DSP B Akkeshwara Rao, unidentified individuals pulled the train's alarm chain between 3:30am and 3:45am As per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), escort personnel disembarked and raised an alarm to alert passengers. The robbers, however, escaped into nearby fields.
Despite warnings, the gang — along with accomplices waiting near the tracks — pelted stones at the police. In response, escort personnel fired five rounds from a 9mm pistol and four rounds from a .303 rifle into the air. No injuries were reported, and passengers remained unharmed.
The train was halted for 10-12 minutes at Tummala Cheruvu following the incident. Police suspect the same gang may be behind previous robbery attempts in the Piduguralla–Nadikudi stretch, including a recent attempt in the Visakha–Charlapalli special train. Investigators believe the gang may be operating from Bihar and Maharashtra.

Delhi HC issues notice on petrol pump owners' plea against fuel ban on overage vehicles

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has agreed to examine a plea challenging the city government's policy to penalise and prosecute the petrol pump owners if they refuel 'end-of-life' (EoL) vehicles -- petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years. A bench of Justice Mini Pushkarna issued notice and sought responses from the Delhi government and the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on the plea filed by the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association. As per the petition, the 'arbitrary' and 'irrational' SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) issued by the city government have burdened the petrol pump owners and their attendants with an additional responsibility of implementing Motor Vehicles Act -- without them being necessarily equipped or authorised under the law to carry out such a responsibility. The plea will likely be heard next on September 8. To reduce emissions and improve air quality in the national capital, which frequently ranks among the world's most polluted cities, the Delhi government has begun enforcing strict new rules on EoL vehicles. According to directives issued by the CAQM, all petrol pumps across the National Capital Territory (NCT) will deny fuel to old vehicles identified through AI-powered Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. AI-enabled cameras installed at petrol stations will automatically identify outdated vehicles using number plate data. Once recognised, these vehicles will be flagged in the system to prevent fuel issuance. To support real-time detection, 498 fuel stations have been equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. Not only will EOL vehicles be disallowed to refuel at petrol or diesel stations, but these vehicles will also be liable for heavy fines if found in public places. Four-wheeler owners violating the rule will be fined Rs 10,000, while two-wheeler owners will face a penalty of Rs 5,000. Authorities have also announced that EOL vehicles found parked in public places or near fuel stations will be seized, and advised vehicle owners to verify the registration status of their vehicles and avoid using outdated vehicles to prevent penalties and seizure. The crackdown follows the alarming findings by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), whose November 2024 analysis found that vehicles contribute 51 per cent of pollution from all local emission sources in Delhi -- making them the single largest source of air pollution in the city. The petition demanded that the Delhi High Court set aside the city government's policy to the extent it seeks to prosecute and penalise fuel station owners under Section 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

GRP constable assaults train ticket examiner on board Hirakund Exp

Jhansi: A train ticket examiner on board the Visakhapatnam-bound 20808 Hirakund Express train was assaulted by a govt railway police (GRP) head constable for asking for the ticket from his wife, who was travelling in an AC coach with him without a valid ticket. The GRP personnel forcefully deboarded the TTE at the Lalitpur station, after which the train moved ahead without the TTE. An enquiry committee was set up on Wednesday to establish the facts. According to details, the incident occurred on Tuesday when TTE Dinesh Kumar from Jabalpur division's Katni station was conducting his routine check on the train after it departed Jhansi station. During the check, he asked a woman sitting in berth number 38 of the B-1 coach to show her ticket. The woman admitted that she had no reservation, and her husband, a GRP constable, was seated on another berth. The TTE persisted in asking to see the ticket. At this point, the woman's husband, Sandeep Kumar, arrived, and an argument ensued. While the TTE insisted for the ticket, Sandeep declined, and the situation escalated. Upon the train reaching Lalitpur station, more GRP personnel boarded and forcibly removed Dinesh Kumar, taking him to the GRP station. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The train then left the station without any TTE on board. Following the incident, the local TTE association met the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and demanded action, describing the event as outrageous. On Wednesday, a three-member committee, comprising one senior member each from GRP, RPF, and the railway administration, was formed to investigate the incident. ADRM (OP), Jhansi division, Nandeesh Shukla, sent a letter to the ADGP (GRP), requesting strict action against the accused GRP personnel.
