Publicise findings of study on Mahakumbh: U.P. CM to IIML director

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has asked IIM Lucknow director Prof MP Gupta to further go deep into their exhaustive study on Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025 and then publicise their findings at the world's biggest congregation that lasted 45 days earlier this year.
Yogi expressed these views during the newly appointed IIML director's courtesy visit to him on Saturday. As per Prof Gupta, the CM said the best practices of Mahakumbh should be widely publicised and all details must be kept in public domain.
He further said the CM recalled his and his council of ministers' visit to IIM Lucknow for three days in September 2019 where they learnt and honed their management skills. Prof Gupta also invited the chief minister to visit IIM during the International Yoga Day to which Yogi said he has other prior commitments on that day.
Prof Gupta said it was only a courtesy call and there was no discussion on how the B School could play a role in the U.P.'s trillion economy journey. The meeting lasted 20 minutes.
IIT Delhi Prof MP Gupta has been appointed as the new director of the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM-L), He assumed office last month. Earlier, Prof Gupta was a faculty at the department of management studies, IIT Delhi.

New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Friday announced the formation of Special Committees for the welfare of senior citizens and five other House panels, taking the number of such MLA groups to 35, an official said. The new panels announced by Gupta include those focused on critical areas such as the welfare of senior citizens, peace and harmony, and the welfare of transgenders and persons with disabilities, among others. These Special Committees have been constituted to strengthen institutional mechanisms and ensure focused attention on the concerns of marginalised and underrepresented communities, said an official of the Assembly Secretariat. The formation of 35 House Committees has taken place in four phases — 11 committees were formed in the first phase, seven in the second, 11 in the third, and the latest six in the fourth phase. Gupta stated that with the addition of these new Committees, the Assembly reinforces its commitment to responsive and equitable legislation. The six Special Committees announced for the financial year 2025-26 include the Special Committee on Salary and Other Allowances of Members of Delhi Legislative Assembly, headed by Abhay Kumar Verma. Its members include Gajender Singh Yadav, Poonam Sharma, Raj Kumar Chauhan, Sanjeev Jha, Surya Prakash Khatri, Tarvinder Singh Marwah, Vishesh Ravi, and Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad. Sanjay Goyal will head the Special House Committee on Violation of Protocol Norms and Contemptuous Behaviour by Government Officers with MLAs. Its members include Anil Goyal, Anil Jha, Anil Kumar Sharma, Jarnail Singh, Karnail Singh, Kulwant Rana, Om Prakash Sharma, and Surya Prakash Khatri. The Special Committee on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will have Ravinder Singh Negi as its chairperson. Its members include Ajay Dutt, Aaley Mohammed Iqbal, Ashok Goel, Atishi, Kulwant Rana, Manoj Kumar Shokeen, Raj Kumar Bhatia, and Sandeep Sehrawat. Chandan Kumar Choudhary has been appointed the chairperson of the Special Committee on Peace and Harmony. Its members include Aaley Mohammed Iqbal, Ashok Goel, Kulwant Rana, Manoj Kumar Shokeen, Neelam Pahalwan, Punardeep Singh Sawhney, Shyam Sharma, and Surya Prakash Khatri. The Special Committee on Welfare of Senior Citizens will be headed by Tilak Ram Gupta. Its members include Jitender Mahajan, Kartar Singh Tanwar, Om Prakash Sharma, Pawan Sharma, Ram Singh Netaji, Satish Upadhyay, Umang Bajaj and Veer Singh Dhingan. The Special Committee on Welfare of Transgenders and Persons with Disability will be headed by Karnail Singh. Its members include Anil Goyal, Harish Khurana, Kailash Gahlot, Kailash Gangwal, Manoj Kumar Shokeen, Prem Chauhan, Shikha Roy, and Virender Singh Kadian. Speaker Gupta said that the formation of these Special Committees reflects the Assembly's evolving role in addressing emerging challenges. He emphasised that these Committees are not only institutional mechanisms but also instruments of social responsibility, created to ensure that concerns of senior citizens, transgenders, persons with disabilities, and other underserved communities receive focused legislative attention and timely redressal.

Chief minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated this year's Van Mahotsav event on Thursday at the Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. Gupta, accompanied by ministers Majinder Singh Sirsa and Parvesh Verma , and BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, also planted a sapling on the occasion. (Sanchit Khanna/ Hindustan Times) The government now plans to plant 700,000 saplings across Delhi, Gupta announced, adding that it is also developing Miyawaki forests across an area of 20 acres. She exhorted Delhi citizens to work alongside the government to transform the city from a 'gas chamber into a green capital'. 'The festival symbolises our joint responsibility towards our mother Earth. It is a resolution through which we want to give the gift of life and greenery to the future generations,' Gupta said. As part of the event, a two-day exhibition has also been organised at the Bharat Mandapam, in which over a hundred stalls showcasing different species of plants and eco-friendly products have been set up. Plants which improve air quality, medicinal and ornamental plants, and a varied range of handcrafted bonsai are on display. The Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary has also set up a stall showcasing the biodiversity of the Aravalli range. The Eco Task Force of the forest department has also set up a stall providing information about their environmental campaigns and tree plantation activities. Under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' campaign, all visitors of the exhibition will be given a free sapling by the Delhi government. Delhi chief secretary Dharmendra alos attended the inaugural event on Thursday, along with school students and other dignitaries.
