Working to change Delhi from a gas chamber to green Capital: CM Rekha Gupta inaugurates Van Mahotsav 2025
The government now plans to plant 700,000 saplings across Delhi, Gupta announced, adding that it is also developing Miyawaki forests across an area of 20 acres.
She exhorted Delhi citizens to work alongside the government to transform the city from a 'gas chamber into a green capital'.
'The festival symbolises our joint responsibility towards our mother Earth. It is a resolution through which we want to give the gift of life and greenery to the future generations,' Gupta said.
As part of the event, a two-day exhibition has also been organised at the Bharat Mandapam, in which over a hundred stalls showcasing different species of plants and eco-friendly products have been set up. Plants which improve air quality, medicinal and ornamental plants, and a varied range of handcrafted bonsai are on display.
The Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary has also set up a stall showcasing the biodiversity of the Aravalli range. The Eco Task Force of the forest department has also set up a stall providing information about their environmental campaigns and tree plantation activities.
Under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' campaign, all visitors of the exhibition will be given a free sapling by the Delhi government.
Delhi chief secretary Dharmendra alos attended the inaugural event on Thursday, along with school students and other dignitaries.

Removing Cong corporator: Divisional commissioner seeks report from collector, police commissioner
Indore: Indore divisional commissioner, acting on Mayor's request to remove corporator Anwar Qadri from his post, has sought comprehensive information from district collector and commissioner of police about Congress leader who has been booked in a criminal case and NSA. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav had written to Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh on June 20 requesting action regarding Qadri's removal. To this, Singh has written to Indore collector and commissioner of police, seeking a detailed investigation into the corporator's case, including specifics of previous incidents, and a report or opinion on necessary action under Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1956. Divisional Commissioner holds direct authority to remove a corporator. As per Section 19(2) of MP Municipal Corporation Act, Qadri will first be issued a show-cause notice. His response will be considered, and if deemed unsatisfactory, he would be removed from post of corporator. Recently, Collector Asheesh Singh had issued an order booking Qadri under National Security Act (NSA). This development followed a prior announcement by Indore police of offering Rs 10,000 cash reward for information leading to arrest of Qadri. He is wanted in a case of allegedly funding two youths accused of luring girls from majority community by changing their identities and subsequently forcing them into religious conversion. Congress has come to Qadri's defence, with Leader of Opposition in Municipal Corporation, Chintu Chokse, branding the move as a 'BJP conspiracy.' Congress spokesperson Pramod Dwivedi questioned the Mayor's demand for Qadri's removal, stating that Qadri has not yet been convicted by a court, and the Mayor, being a legal expert himself, should not make such demands. The Congress also highlighted case of BJP corporator and MIC Member Jeetu Jatav alias Yadav, questioning why similar action was not sought against him despite the BJP itself expelling him from the party following a controversy.

Lucknow: The BJP Lucknow Mahanagar unit has begun preparations to celebrate the 75th birthday of defence minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh on July 10. BJP Lucknow Mahanagar president Anand Dwivedi convened a planning meeting at Kaisarbagh office on Friday with party officials and workers. As part of the celebrations, a Sunder Kand recital will be held at Hanuman Setu temple. An Akhand Deep (eternal flame) will be lit in front of Lord Hanuman's idol, with prayers for the long life and well-being of the minister. Dwivedi, along with party workers, also inspected the site to ensure smooth preparations. BJP media in-charge Praveen Garg said a devotional music event will be organised and a 75-kg laddu will be offered and distributed as prasad.

Maharashtra legislative assembly may discuss BJP MLA Mungantiwar's bill against religious conversion
Mumbai: A bill introduced by BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar to prevent forcible religious conversions could be taken up for discussion in the current session of the state legislature. It was initially introduced in the March session of the legislature. The bill seeks to prevent religious conversion by "force, inducement or fraudulent means". The private member bill proposes a punishment of imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of Rs 5,000 for those found guilty. If the victim of forcible conversion belongs to the SC or ST community, then the period of imprisonment should be raised to two years and the fine should be increased to Rs 10,000, the bill suggests. In his objectives for introducing the bill, Mungantiwar said, "Forced religious conversion involves coercion, deception or taking undue advantage of a person's poverty or by immoral means. This is highly undesirable."
