'I was child star in ET and it has devastating impact on my life'
Henry Thomas, who played Elliot in the 1982 iconic film E.T, had no idea he would become a global superstar at just the age of 10
Known eternally as the boy on a bicycle bonding with an extraterrestrial, Henry Thomas captured hearts in Steven Spielberg 's 1982 masterpiece E. T., becoming a household name overnight—at just ten years old.
For young Henry, though, the stardom from E. T. was more than a stepping stone into Hollywood; it became a towering presence throughout his life, making 'normality' something of the past.
Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, and born in 1971, Henry entered the cinematic world relatively as a beginner, having only one film under his belt, unlike the already established young Drew Barrymore. Yet, it was Henry's remarkable audition that clinched him the defining part, reports the Mirror US.
Said audition tape, now shared widely, illustrates the raw talent of young Henry. A casting director can be heard issuing a scenario: "They've come with a search warrant and they want to take the creature away."
Merely moments later, Henry evokes sheer emotion, tears cascading as he desperately appeals: "You can't take him away, he's mine, I don't care what the president says, he's my best friend and you can't take him away."
His poignant plea not only moved the room to tears but also prompted the legendary Steven Spielberg's voice to declare: "OK kid, you got the job."
The film's massive success, earning nine Oscar nominations and breaking box office records, drastically altered Henry's life. At a very young age, he struggled to comprehend the notion of fame that came with playing Elliot.
In an interview with The Guardian, Henry said: "It was a total unexpected side-effect of doing this fun thing I had wanted to do. I had no clue that my life would change in any way.
"I worked on this movie, then I'm back on the farm, I'm back at school – but now people are pointing at me in the street." Henry's family, from a relatively ordinary background, was not prepared for the consequences of his newfound fame.
He added: "My whole family wasn't really well equipped to deal with anything like that. And other than a few precautions, we didn't change our lives that much."
As a result, they received unusual visitors, phone calls, and were forced to contact the authorities on several occasions.
Following E.T. , Henry continued to work in Hollywood, appearing in notable films such as Legends of the Fall, Gangs of New York, and Suicide Kings. However, his more recent projects have garnered him a new set of fans, many of whom were unaware of his role as Elliot in E. T.
The actor formed a professional bond with director Mike Flanagan, renowned for his spine-chilling films like The Shining sequel Dr Sleep, Gerald's Game and Ouija: Origin of Evil - all featuring Thomas.

Grey's Anatomy legend addresses possible show return and it's not good news
Former Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh has opened up on the possibility of returning to the long-running medical drama Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh has shared her thoughts on a potential return to the show, and it's not good news. Sandra is most recognised for her role as cardiothoracic surgeon Cristina Yang in the long-running medical drama. Cristina was part of the original group of interns, alongside Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), and George O'Malley (TR Knight). During her tenure on the show, Cristina was at the centre of numerous high-profile storylines. Her relationship with Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) notably concluded on their wedding day in the third series, she was left shaken following the hospital shooting at the end of the sixth series, and was aboard the plane that crashed in the eighth series, reports the Mirror US. After ten series, Cristina departed Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for a job in Zurich, Switzerland. She took up a position at the Klausman Institute for Medical Research, a hospital established by her former mentor and ex-fiancé, Preston. Since then, Sandra has starred in a variety of popular films and TV shows, including Killing Eve, The Chair and Turning Red. More than a decade after her departure from Grey's Anatomy, fans are still holding out hope for Cristina's comeback. However, Sandra has now addressed the possibility, and it's not the news fans were hoping for. In a chat with Deadline, the 53-year-old actress expressed appreciation for the show's fans, but also stated that she had "to be true" to herself. "What I have noticed, this is ten years out from leaving the show, is the deep appreciation that I have for the people who appreciate Cristina," Sandra said. "It is that love that has made me go, 'Oh, the fans really, really, really want it,' and for the first time, that's when I started opening up the idea." However, she added: "For me, I think to really be true to the people who enjoy your work, you have to be true to yourself. So, at this point, I don't think so." This sentiment echoes what Sandra expressed last year when probed about reprising her role as Cristina. "I love that you asked me that, because Cristina Yang is, of course, near and dear to my heart. [But] I will say, not anytime soon, my love," she had previously shared with Entertainment Tonight. "I hope people feel like I did my job, which is that I brought to life a character and she had a growth over ten seasons, and that it was true. She was ready to move on, and so have I." The season 21 finale of Grey's Anatomy aired in May, culminating in a nail-biting cliffhanger as a mother threatened to blow up a gas tank unless Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) performed surgery on her child. The explosive conclusion left viewers on the edge of their seats, with the destinies of several characters up in the air. Fans are eagerly awaiting the premiere of season 22 later this year to discover the aftermath of the devastating blast.

Lee asked for the 45% question: "Which is the odd one out? A) Dapple, B) Slime, C) Spear or D) Rabbit. Contestants only had 30 seconds to identify the correct answer and lock it in. Addressing the astonishing number of passes, Lee said to the players: "Now, you've just broken a record you lot, because, between you, you have just used 46 passes!"
