Ceddanne Rafaela's walk-off homer propels Red Sox past Rays
The Red Sox had been shut out and limited to just two hits over the four innings preceding the game-winner, but after Roman Anthony drew a pinch-hit walk, Rafaela crushed a one-out homer to deep left field off Rays reliever Pete Fairbanks (4-3).
Rafaela and Trevor Story each had multiple hits and Chris Murphy (2-0) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win for Boston, which has won eight straight and 10 of 11.
Rafaela has now scored a run and driven in one in seven consecutive games.
Red Sox starter Hunter Dobbins worked just 1 2/3 innings before exiting the game due to right knee pain. Dobbins came up limping after hitting the first base bag while covering for Abraham Toro on a close play.
Jonathan Aranda and Jake Mangum both had two hits and scored a run for Tampa Bay, which scored three unearned runs in the third inning and held a lead until the final pitch.
The Rays got three baserunners aboard in four batters against Dobbins in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead on Junior Caminero's RBI single through the left side that scored Yandy Diaz. In the second, Wilyer Abreu's leadoff single turned into a game-tying run for the Red Sox as Rafaela hit a two-out single to right.
Three unearned runs to the record of Red Sox reliever Jorge Alcala brought the Rays back into the lead at 4-1 in the third.
Back-to-back hits by Aranda (double) and Mangum (single) set the table in the inning, and after back-to-back pop flies for outs, Jose Caballero reached on an error that allowed Aranda to score. A passed ball and a bases-loaded walk to Chandler Simpson also plated runs for Tampa Bay in the frame.
Joe Boyle, who came on in the third for starter Drew Rasmussen, gave up a walk to Abreu and a single to Story to set the table for back-to-back RBIs in the fourth. Marcelo Mayer doubled and Toro followed with a run-scoring grounder.
Six Boston relievers followed Dobbins. Brennan Bernardino covered the longest span with 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball.

NEW YORK, July 12 (Reuters) - On the eve of the Club World Cup final, FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the tournament a success, learning from the criticisms leveled at the event on issues ranging from extreme heat to stadiums that were only half full for some matches. It's an issue all over the world… We have stadiums as well, which are covered. So, we'll definitely use these stadiums more in the day," added Infantino. The FIFA president also said the idea that European spectators and clubs were particularly critical was not founded. "We shouldn't say that the opinion of Europe on this is very bad because it's not true. I have been speaking to the teams who came here. They've all been happy to come here. To the fans who came here, they've all been happy to come here," Infantino said. Brazilian great Ronaldo, who was at the event along with other former players, echoed the FIFA president and said the criticisms had been limited. "I just saw two guys doing the critiques about FIFA Club World Cup. One of them, he hates everything else but the Liga," Ronaldo said. "And the other - we respect the opinion, but I think as the president told you about the facts and the numbers and the enthusiasm of the people and the fans and the quality of the games, I think it has been a huge success." With U.S. President Donald Trump set to attend the final, Infantino defended his close relationship to the current administration, saying it was fundamental to organise the mega events. "(Trump) embraced, immediately, the importance of the FIFA Club World Cup. And then, of course, of the World Cup next year. "You cannot even think of organising an event like this, like the Club World Cup… without the full engagement and full support of the government," he said. Paris Saint-Germain will face Chelsea in the tournament's finale at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday.

July 12 - Kyle Manzardo hit a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning and Tanner Bibee earned his first victory since May 22 as the visiting Cleveland Guardians defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-2 on Saturday. Bibee (5-9) allowed two runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings after losing his previous five decisions. He walked two and struck out five. Relievers Erik Sabrowski, Cade Smith and Matt Festa combined to retire all 10 batters they faced over the final 3 1/3 innings for Cleveland, which has won five of six following a 10-game losing streak. The Guardians led 4-2 before adding two insurance runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez.
