ESPN names Notre Dame's Bryce Young as sleeper breakout candidate

USA Today6 days ago
Notre Dame's defensive line dealt with several significant injuries throughout last season but still managed to play solid football all year, so it is expected to take the next step this fall under the tutelage of line coach Al Washington.
One player that ESPN has highlighted to be a sleeper player for the Fighting Irish is sophomore Bryce Young. The defensive lineman leads a deep group on the outside and figures to see a serious uptick in snaps this fall.
From ESPN: With Rylie Mills and Howard Cross III leaving for the NFL, the Fighting Irish are looking for another player who can rush the quarterback. The answer might be sophomore Bryce Young, who certainly looks the part at 6 feet, 7 inches and 273 pounds. Last season, he played in all 16 games and had 23 tackles with a team-high three blocked kicks. Young has the right potential too. His father, Bryant Young, was an All-American at Notre Dame and a Pro Football Hall of Famer after a standout career with the 49ers. His mother, Kristin, ran track and field for the Fighting Irish. -- Mark Schlabach
While Jordan Botelho will be sidelined to start the season, this is still a talented and deep DL unit. Both Gabriel Rubio and Jason Onye are healthy again at tackle, and Boubacar Traore has a chance to be a pass-rushing force off the edge if he also proves he's healthy.
There is proven depth across the line with a lot of high upside for several players, led by the emerging Young.

Fantasy football: Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. named breakout player

ESPN's fantasy staff compiled their top sleepers, busts and breakout players, including Marvin Harrison Jr. As we approach the end of the summer, fantasy owners will be putting together their wish lists for fantasy drafts. They seek to land reliable production from players and hope to find value additions and avoid fantasy busts. ESPN's fantasy staff put together a list, giving their potential sleepers, busts and breakout players. Arizona Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was included as a breakout player. Fantasy breakout player: Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. From Stephania Bell: Many expected Harrison to emerge on the pro scene with a bang, but his underwhelming rookie season landed more like a thud. After scoring four touchdowns in his first four games, Harrison scored only four more the rest of the season, and his catch percentage (53.4%) was lowest among all rookie wide receivers. But his talent and pedigree are unchanged and lessons learned from Year 1 could go a long way toward making 2025 his breakout season. Plus, outside of Trey McBride, he faces little competition for targets. There has been a buzz all offseason about Harrison breaking out this coming season. His rookie season wasn't bad, but it certainly didn't meet lofty expectations. Harrison is noticeably bigger physically. He enters his second NFL season. He will have a lot of targets. He is a logical choice as a breakout player. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. Ohio State football coach Ryan Day rated among the best in 'College Football 26'

We know some of you already purchased the Deluxe Edition of 'College Football 26' and are already enjoying many of the features on the newest release of the game, and battling it out with friends and foes alike across the country. We're also pretty sure most of you visiting this homer Ohio State site are using the Buckeyes to dominate the competition. If so, then there's no doubt you've noticed some of the ratings now visible and available in the game, including where Ohio State ranks, who the top players are in the game, what Buckeye players are rated, and much more. One thing many fans may not know, however, is that the head coaches in the game are also ranked and rated, and that includes OSU head coach Ryan Day. But what does EA Sports think of Day? Coming fresh off a College Football national championship, you would expect Day to be highly rated in the game, and that's definitely the case. In fact, Day is rated as the third best coach in the game behind only Kirby Smart of Georgia and Clemson's Dabo Swinney. All three have a "prestige" of an A+, but Smart and Swinney both have an overall rating of 80, while Day has a rating of 72. Rounding out the top ten behind those three are Steve Sarkisian of Texas (68), Oregon's Dan Lanning (66), Penn State head coach James Franklin (64), Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman (63), Kalen DeBoer of Alabama (62), LSU's Brian Kelly (62), and Lane Kiffin of Ole Miss (61). Of note, Michigan man Sherrone Moore is nowhere to be found. I think there are a lot of folks around the country who would want Day over Swinney because it sure feels like the way things are going in college football has made him a bit of a dinosaur, but the Clemson head coach does have two national championships, so I guess that's the tiebreaker. Either way, Day continues to gain prestige and respect in coaching circles, the media, and yes, the virtual video game realm.
