
Utkarsh of MGU secures 5th spot in NSS initiative

The initiative was jointly organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Uttar Pradesh Police to foster civic awareness and collaboration. A dedicated NSS volunteer at MGU, Utkarsh was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Director General of Police (Rules & Manuals), UP. The certificate was formally presented by MGU vice-chancellor Surinder Singh and circle officer Vijay Anand Shahi.
Congratulating Utkarsh, Singh praised the programme, highlighting its role in nurturing confidence, discipline, leadership, and a sense of social responsibility among students. "Such initiatives empower students to become 'Police Mitras' and drive positive change in the society," he added. TNN

Students warned against clicking on fake links
Eluru: An awareness programme on cybercrime was organised by the NSS unit at St Theresa's College for Women here on Wednesday. Additional SP N Surya Chandra Rao emphasised that young people—especially female students—must stay vigilant and avoid falling prey to cybercriminals. Addressing the gathering, he educated students on the various forms of cybercrimes and how to safeguard themselves. He advised that in case of complaints related to ganja addiction, one should call 181. For crimes against women, contact 1098 and for women's safety, utilise the Shakti app, he said. Cybercrime SI Valli Padma said that complaints related to cybercrimes can be reported by dialling 1930. She warned against clicking on fake links bearing names like 'APK Help' and 'SBI YONO,' as these could leak personal information and lead to serious repercussions. She urged students to verify the authenticity of such links before acting on them, and to report immediately to 1930 if any unknown caller asks for OTPs. Eluru Town DSP Shravan Kumar, Women Police Station CI Subba Rao, Three-Town CI V Koteswara Rao, College Principal Dr Sr Mercy, NSS Coordinator Dr K Swarnalatha, programme officers, and students were present. As a gesture of encouragement, Additional SP Surya Chandra Rao distributed T-shirts to the participating students on behalf of the police department.

Higher education department initiates state level anti-drug action plan on Anti-Drug Day
T'puram: Higher education department is initiating a comprehensive state-level action plan against substance abuse on Anti-Drug Day, June 26. Colleges affiliated with various universities under the higher education department and those under the Directorate of Collegiate Education will observe Anti-Drug Day. Teachers, non-teaching staff, students, guardians and alumni will take an anti-drug pledge, higher education minister R Bindu said on Tuesday. The celebration will be inaugurated by Bindu at the Govt Women's College auditorium. The inauguration will kickstart a year-long anti-drug initiative in colleges, the minister said. The chief minister will officially launch the state-level anti-drug action plan. One of the major decisions proposed is to demand college students submit a written affidavit pledging not to use drugs or engage in drug-related crimes. The 'Azad Sena,' formed under the National Service Scheme (NSS), will lead ongoing anti-drug activities. With the help of the excise department, Vimukthi Clubs will be established on all campuses. Programmes like Shradha and Nerkootam will be launched in universities, professional education institutions and colleges. Vigilance committees named 'Drug-Free College Protection Committee' and 'Drug-Free University Campus Protection Committee' will be formed at the institutional level, with monthly reviews of their activities. Participation from the NSS, NCC, Vimukthi Club and PTA will be ensured.
