'Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom were doomed from the start for one sad reason'
In recent weeks, The Pirates of The Caribbean actor, 48, has hinted at trouble in paradise and moving on with his life after it was reported that he and popstar Katy, 40, have called it quits. Orlando's cryptic inspirational messages come as Katy is currently travelling Australia with her Lifetimes tour. The I Kissed A Girl singer has been documenting her wild nights out Down Under, with many fans on X insisting that she looks as though she is living the 'single life' again and 'thriving'.
The Hollywood pair have faced ongoing speculation over their relationship in recent weeks, with reports of "make or break talks". Neither Orlando or Katy have yet to confirm if the reports are true following their whirlwind romance which spanned almost a decade.
Here, we take a look at all of the reasons why Katy and Orlando were 'never going to work out', according to the relationship expert.
Career and schedule clashes
Katy's packed touring calendar and Orlando's film commitments meant they were constantly pulled in different directions. 'They've been spending more and more time apart,' say insiders. On this, Dr. Muldoon explains: 'When two people lead drastically different daily lives, emotional connection suffers. It's not about lack of love - it's about lack of shared time.'
Creative conflict and emotional drift
Both stars are high-achieving creatives, but their ambitions often sent them down different paths. Reports claimed Orlando once called Katy's space project 'embarrassing,' and insiders hinted at tension over her album's lacklustre reception. 'She thrives on public creativity,' says Dr. Muldoon. 'He seeks grounding. Without shared values, frustration and resentment take hold.'
Parenting priorities out of sync
With Orlando, 48, co-parenting son Flynn from his previous relationship with Miranda Kerr and sharing daughter Daisy with Katy, 40, family dynamics added pressure. Experts agree that blended families - especially under the spotlight - can strain even the strongest relationships.
'They clearly love Daisy,' one source said, 'but they realised they needed to protect her by stepping away.' Dr. Muldoon notes: 'When parenting priorities don't align, it creates long-term friction.'
Communication breakdown
The couple reportedly tried couples therapy to save their relationship, but the emotional gap proved too wide. Katy once admitted she needed 'real work,' while Orlando confessed their rhythms didn't always match. Dr. Muldoon says: 'Therapy can improve communication - but it can't fix fundamental differences in values, pace, or expectations.'
Pressure points from touring
Their split reportedly coincided with Katy's intense Lifetimes tour and the underwhelming response to her album 143 . 'Big career moments often shine a spotlight on what's working - or what's broken,' says Dr. Muldoon. 'If one partner is in crisis and the other feels overlooked, the relationship becomes unbalanced.'
Co-parenting comes first
Despite the breakup, both stars remain focused on raising Daisy in a supportive environment. 'They've chosen peace over drama,' says one source. Dr. Muldoon adds: 'That's a healthy decision. Ending a relationship with respect, especially when children are involved, is a sign of growth.'
Final verdict
"Katy and Orlando's relationship was passionate but unsustainable", says the relationship expert. "Their divergent lifestyles, emotional needs, and parenting challenges created a divide that therapy and love alone couldn't bridge."
The pair had one of the pop-world's most talked-about romances when they first met 2016 at a Golden Globes afterparty and quickly hit it off, eventually making their relationship official in May 2016. However, the relationship hit rocky waters when the pair temporarily split up in 2017.
They then reunited and got engaged on Valentines Day, 2019 and a year later, Katy confirmed that she was pregnant with Orlando's baby. The pair were set to be wedded in Japan early 2020, until Covid hit, and they were forced to postpone. In summer 2020, they announced the birth of their first daughter.
However, five years on and the pair are allegedly no longer together after a decade of dating. A source told US Weekly: "Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable." Their last sighting together was March 2025 at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Orlando Bloom shares cryptic post about 'loneliness' after Katy Perry split
Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom has shared a series of quotes. attributed to psychologist Carl Jung, following reports in recent weeks that he has split from Katy Perry Orlando Bloom has shared a series of cryptic quotes referring to "darkness" and "loneliness" following his reported split from his fiancée Katy Perry. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 48, and Katy, 40, have reportedly parted ways after nine years together. The couple, who are parents to four-year-old daughter Daisy, have faced speculation over their relationship in recent weeks, with there once even the suggestion of potential "make or break talks" in the future. Following yet more reports that they had separated, Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando has shared a series of quotes, which aren't attributed to him, on Instagram. They featured in a post that he shared on his account yesterday. He shared a post by the account @sapienkind which focused on the late Carl Jung, who's considered the founder of analytical psychology. The post included more than a dozen quotes attributed to the psychologist. One quote included in the repost from Orlando was about loneliness. It read: "Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself." Whilst another of those featured in the post focused on love and power. That quote read: "Where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other." "Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness," one quote read. Whilst another read: "Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul, be just another human soul." Orlando later shared his post on his Instagram Story. He went on to highlight some of the quotes in particular, including specifically sharing the loneliness comment and the one that had referenced touching the human soul. He also highlighted another quote on there. The third quote from the post that he shared on its own through his Instagram Story yesterday read: "We are not what happened to us, we are what we choose to become." It comes after Orlando previously shared some quotes from other sources just days ago. As reported at the time, he posted a quote attributed to Buddha that read: "Each day is a new beginning. What we do today is what matters most." Amid ongoing speculation over his relationship with singer-songwriter Katy, it's been reported that they are "amicable". A source told US Weekly for an article that was published last week: "It's not contentious at the moment." The source claimed that the apparent separation has been "a long time coming," adding that things between them have been "tense" for months. They said that Katy is "of course upset" but "relived" to not have a second divorce ahead of her.

Katy Perry nearly falls from prop mid-air during performance
Katy Perry has been left clinging on to a prop after it began to tilt while she was suspended in the air. Since kicking off her Lifetimes world tour in May the Dark Horse singer, who is reported to have recently split from fiancé Orlando Bloom, has faced a string of close calls, including nearly plunging into a crowd, narrowly avoiding a wardrobe malfunction and having a fan rush on stage and grab her. This week the 40-year-old added another somewhat unsettling moment to that list when a prop she was dangling in appeared to malfunction. During a performance at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Australia on Sunday night, clips circulating on social media show Katy inside a large metal sphere that usually takes her soaring above the crowd. But as it began to rise, it started to tilt to one side, with the singer rushing to grab the frame to maintain her balance. The sphere was then lowered, and several crew members came running up to assist her, letting Katy out before working to fix it, with people who were at the show explaining they spent five minutes getting the prop fixed. Many who were there described what they saw as 'scary'. 'She got her wrist stuck in the aerial strap she uses to go upside down – she was trying to get out but couldn't so the stage crew came on to help release her and she disappeared into the stage pit to change whilst they fixed the sphere. It was maybe five minutes,' user LouLoulaBelle posted on X. 'Katy Perry handled it like a queen. So glad she got down safely,' user Narlee, who also shared footage, commented. Another concertgoer explained how 'everyone started clapping' when the singer got down. Although Katy is yet to comment on what unfolded, her mishap comes just a few days after Beyoncé faced a prop 'malfunction' of her own. On Saturday night's Cowboy Carter show in Houston, Texas she was performing her song 16 Carriages in a car suspended above concertgoers at NRG Stadium. However, in videos captured by those in the crowd, the prop then began to tilt mid-air. 'Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop,' she said into the microphone as the music cut out. Remaining suspended in the air, she looked at the ground and up again before smiling at the crowd as they cheered. After the show, the singer's production and management company, Parkwood, released a statement regarding the incident. 'Tonight, in Houston, at NRG Stadium, a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyoncé uses to circle the stadium and see her fans up close, to tilt,' it shared on Instagram. 'She was quickly lowered, and no one was injured. The show continued without incident.' Metro has contacted representatives for Katy Perry for comment. Got a story?
