Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching commended Bernama in a Facebook post, highlighting its efforts in promoting multilingual content across radio, television, and digital platforms. She emphasised the agency's role in fostering inclusive storytelling for all Malaysians.
'Congratulations to Bernama and the Malaysia Book of Records for continuing to tell powerful Malaysian stories. Here's to 10,000 records and many more years of inspiring achievements from every corner of our beloved nation,' Teo said.
She also acknowledged Bernama's upcoming television series, *Malaysia Luar Biasa*, set to premiere on 26 August 2025.
The series will feature remarkable Malaysians, including international tower runner Soh Wai Ching and Datuk M. Magendran, the first Malaysian to conquer Mount Everest.
Bernama recently received the Media and Association Appreciation award from the Malaysia Book of Records for its contributions in documenting national milestones.
The award was accepted by Bernama CEO Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
Teo, speaking at the 30th anniversary of the Malaysia Book of Records, praised the organisation for chronicling nearly 8,000 achievements since 1995.

National Seed Council To Be Launched Soon To Address Monopoly Issues
PASIR SALAK, July 14 (Bernama) -- The National Seed Council, which is currently in the final stages of evaluation, will be launched soon. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the body is crucial to ensure proper regulation of the seed industry in the country and prevent monopolisation by any particular company or country. "Let the management of seeds be done in an orderly manner, and we will have a national seed board to regulate all types of plant or livestock seeds in Malaysia," he said. The minister said this in a press conference following the Clearfield padi varieties MR CL3 and MR CL4 declaration at the FELCRA Plantation Services Sdn Bhd Padi Seed Centre in Seberang Perak today. Also present were the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak; Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) board chairman Dr Azman Ismail; State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun; and MARDI director-general Datuk Dr Mohamad Zabawi Abdul Ghani. Mohamad also said that one of the council's key functions will be to establish a seed repository system or an official storage centre for all types of local agricultural and livestock seeds. "The padi seed centre will serve as a repository for all types of seeds available in the country, and in the event of any issues, we can use the repository to produce seeds for the future," he added. In June, KPKM, in a meeting, decided to designate MARDI as the lead agency for the National Seed Hub, in addition to establishing an advisory council comprising various experts to develop the coordinating body. Malaysia currently relies almost entirely on imported seeds, including 90 per cent of vegetable and watermelon seeds valued at RM2.7 million.

Bursa ends slightly lower on lack of fresh catalysts
KUALA LUMPUR : The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended the week slightly lower today, as investors await fresh catalysts, mainly the ongoing trade negotiations between Malaysia and the US. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd head of investment research Sedek Jantan said the benchmark index touched an intraday high of 1,541.94 before retreating in the afternoon session, reflecting intermittent profit-taking and a lack of conviction amid external policy uncertainty. Despite the subdued tone, he noted that the underlying momentum remains intact, as valuations continue to look attractive relative to 2024 levels, particularly for long-term investors with a value bias. 'Telecommunications stocks led the gainers, buoyed by balance sheet improvements and investor optimism over earnings quality. 'Conversely, the utilities sector came under pressure, with investors locking in gains following a notable two-week rebound,' he told Bernama. On the regional front, Sedek said the market shows early signs of portfolio reallocation by US-based institutional investors. 'This trend, if sustained, could provide structural support for regional equities, Malaysia included, as tariff risk escalations and a pivot towards looser monetary conditions increase the relative appeal of Asia,' he said. At 5pm, the FBM KLCI eased 0.45 points or 0.03% to 1,536.07 from yesterday's close of 1,536.52. The benchmark index had opened 1.36 points higher at 1,537.88 and hovered between 1,530.77 and 1,541.94 throughout the session. However, the market breadth was positive, with 510 gainers outpacing 450 decliners. A total of 532 counters were unchanged, while 926 were untraded and 10 suspended. Turnover rose to 3.37 billion shares worth RM2.30 billion, compared with 3.25 billion shares worth RM2.45 billion yesterday. Among the heavyweight counters, Maybank lost four sen to RM9.69, but Public Bank gained two sen to RM4.32, Tenaga Nasional was flat at RM13.96, while CIMB slipped two sen to RM6.68, and IHH Healthcare was seven sen lower at RM6.58. In active trade, Zetrix AI and Dagang Nexchange garnered two sen each to RM1 and 32 sen, respectively. Tanco and NexG both improved 0.5 sen to 90.5 sen and 45 sen, respectively, while Sapura Energy reduced 0.5 sen to 3.5 sen. On the index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 15.25 points to 11,543.58, the FBMT 100 Index expanded 15.61 points to 11,308.74, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 43.73 points to 11,552.47. The FBM 70 Index increased 105.75 points to 16,761.35, while the FBM ACE Index improved 21.60 points to 4,538.17. By sector, the financial services index fell 14.25 points to 17,608.13, the industrial products and services index inched up 0.55 points to 154.09, while the plantation index fell 10.81 points to 7,450.45. The energy index inched up 1.0 point to 737.62. The Main Market volume inched higher to 1.36 billion units worth RM1.99 billion from 1.32 billion units valued at RM2.17 billion yesterday. The ACE Market volume rose to 318.83 million units valued at RM107.58 million, versus 241.47 million units worth RM86.17 million yesterday. MOE's Cooperation Crucial For Safe Internet Campaign In Schools
KENINGAU, July 14 (Bernama) -- The Communications Ministry hopes the Ministry of Education (MOE) will continue to support the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) so that the programme can be carried out in schools as part of efforts to improve digital literacy among students. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said this was important as KIS educates both primary and secondary school students about internet safety, given its increasing usage today. She said the campaign's content is tailored to suit the students' age levels — Level One for Years One to Three, and Level Two for Years Four to Six, as well as secondary schools. 'We are requesting cooperation from the MOE to allow us into schools so we can involve schools in educating students on how to stay safe online. 'For primary schools, KIS will carry out interactive activities to help them understand. They may not need too much exposure to issues like online gambling and scams, but cyberbullying is one of the key issues they might face,' she told reporters after attending the KIS programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Puteh here today. Teo said the KIS programme, launched on Jan 21, focuses on four areas — cyberbullying, online scams and gambling, child sexual exploitation, and data protection and digital literacy — and aims to reach over 10,000 educational institutions by the end of this year. She said school students are also provided with information on child sexual exploitation, which is seen as one of the issues they may encounter. A total of 344 schools nationwide are targeted to be involved in the KIS rollout from May to August this year, including 64 schools in Sabah. 'As of July 1, the programme has been implemented in 221 schools, involving 31,246 participants, comprising students, teachers and parents,' she said, adding that aside from schools, the campaign also receives support from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in developing engaging co-curricular activities.
