OAP, 80, kept tabs on 27-year-old woman in Glasgow

Glasgow Times24-04-2025
Dennis Hislop, 80, spent time behind bars after he kept tabs on the then 27-year-old in Glasgow's Parkhead and Dalmarnock.
Hislop tailed her several times a day as she walked her dog.

The retired metal worker told police that he hid in bushes with binoculars looking in the direction of her house.
Hislop also concealed himself in bushes at Celtic Park to leer at her and fled after being pointed out to the police.
Hislop was convicted of stalking between February 2020 and June 2022 at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Hislop was released from prison after trial and put on a tag for 12 months and ordered to stay 200 metres from the woman and not to enter her street.
However, Hislop was back in the dock for breaching his non-harassment order (NHO) against the woman.
He was also convicted of a further charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner against a teenage girl and a man.
Jurors heard Hislop first flouted the NHO and a court undertaking in September 2023.
Prosecutor Danielle McGuinness put to Hislop: "Why did she see you a couple of months after the NHO was put in place in bushes at the bottom of her street?"
He replied: "She has an iPhone. I pass her regularly walking her dog in my car - she watches me go up to Bridgeton where I stay.
"Why did she not take a picture if she saw me there?"
The trial earlier heard from an 18-year-old girl who also came across Hislop in the area in 2023.
She first became aware of him amid claims he put a note on her mum's windscreen at the Emirates Arena when she came to pick up her daughter.
The girl stated: "The note said she was a paedo and that I felt unsafe around my mum and that I came to him and told him this."
An allegation that he put a note on the car was found not proven by the jury.
The girl denied ever speaking to Hislop and claimed that he was a stranger to her.
She also recalled times Hislop confronted her and her boyfriend in the streets around Parkhead.
The girl stated that Hislop told them that he was "quite famous" with "young boys" in the area as he managed to get them a signed Rangers football.
His previous trial heard Hislop claimed he had a contact at Rangers who got him a signed ball from ex-player Ryan Kent for a boy he knew.
The girl stated that Hislop would "watch us" walk up a street in Parkhead while he was pulled up in his car.
The witness recalled a time when she saw Hislop knelt down in bushes near the Emirates Arena.
She said: "He got caught up in twigs...I was quite shocked. I honestly didn't think he was waiting on me and I think he was shocked that someone had noticed him."
The girl stated in another encounter that Hislop told her boyfriend that she was "not to be scared" of him.
She added that she would see Hislop driving round the street three times a day at the time.
Hislop was also convicted of repeatedly following a John Carletto in his car which included following him home.
Mr Carletto told the court that Hislop "made my life a misery" and he had to sell his car because of him.

Moment police snare suspects after £100k Apple device raid on phone shop

This is the moment police found a haul of Apple devices worth nearly £100,000 in the back seat of a car after masked raiders hit a phone shop in central London. Officers were called to reports of a burglary at the O2 store in Tottenham Court Road on 24 July, where a gang reportedly entered the shop wearing balaclavas and made off with around 100 iPhones and scores of Apple Watches. Three men aged 25, 24, and 18 were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary minutes later in nearby Cranleigh Street. A search on the car also uncovered a large machete. All three remain in custody.

Flight attendant jailed after teenage girl finds phone taped to plane toilet

Estes Carter Thompson III has been jailed for 18 years by a Boston court after a 14-year-old girl discovered a phone crudely taped to the underside of the American Airlines plane toilet seat A pervert has been jailed after taping his phone to the lid of an airplane toilet to film young girls. American Airlines attendant Estes Carter Thompson III pleaded guilty earlier this year after he was found to have recorded five underage girls over nine months working with the airline. He was also found with a collection of AI-generated images of child sexual abuse. As he was sent down for 18-and-a-half years on Wednesday, the 37-year-old apologised, branding his actions "selfish, perverse and wrong". District judge Julia Kobick said his filming of the children had stolen their innocence, calling his behaviour "appalling". In a sentencing memorandum seen by federal prosecutors said he had been 'recording videos of the children's bodies in one of their most private moments, and then storing, editing, and revisiting those videos, all for his own sexual gratification." He 'robbed five young girls of their innocence and belief in the goodness of the world and the people they would encounter in it, instead leaving them with fear, mistrust, insecurity, and sadness,' prosecutors said. In September 2023, he was finally rumbled after escorting a 14-year-old to the toilet. While doing so, he asked to enter before her so he could wash his hands - and told her the toilet seat was not working. The girl inspected the underside of the seat and found an iPhone hidden crudely under some red stickers which said "seat broken". With her own phone, the girl took photos of the hidden device and showed them to her parents when she got back to her seat. Thompson was confronted by the girl's father, leading him to hide in the bathroom for the rest of the flight. While hiding in the cubicle, he deleted all of the data from his phone. But police trawled his iCloud data and found additional recordings of four other girls aged seven, nine, 11 and 14. He also had a video of an unaccompanied nine-year-old sleeping in her seat. In his suitcase, they discovered more red stickers like those found on the toilet seat. In March, he pleaded guilty to attempted sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography depicting a prepubescent minor. He is being sent to FMC Butner in North Carolina, where he is expected to undergo sex offender treatment. After his initial sentence, he will have to serve a further five under supervised release. American Airlines immediately sacked Thompson. However, a civil lawsuit has been launched against the company by one of the victims' families. Texas-based law firm Lewis & Llewellyn, which is representing the family, said Thompson's ability to exploit his position was "deeply troubling", adding: 'American Airlines owes these families — and the public — answers and meaningful reforms to ensure this can never happen again."

Pair of Met Police officers are sacked after one broke wind in colleague's face and another took photos of his genitals on her phone

A pair of Metropolitan Police officers have been sacked from the force after one farted in a female colleague's face while the other took a picture of his genitals on her phone. PC Wayne Sansom tilted his leg at a 45-degree angle before breaking wind just 10-15cm from the horrified woman's face at Wembley Police Station in northwest London back in November 2021. His colleague, Ben Jeffries, also made 'inappropriate and discourteous comments' about the same woman's sexuality and heritage. Jeffries also took on the female colleague's iPhone, a picture of his testicles during an Extinction Rebellion protest, the nine-day misconduct hearing heard. When he was confronted to this, he shrugged and told the shocked woman: 'Why are you getting offended? It's just a picture of my balls.' The two were swiftly taken off the force by the Metropolitan Police misconduct panel in central London, dismissed without warning for breaching multiple Standards of Professional Behaviour, including Discreditable Conduct, Authority, Respect and Courtesy, and Equality and Diversity. Russell Ford, representing the Met Police at the hearing, revealed how PC Sansom invited the female officer, known as PC B, to 'pull his finger' at Wembley station. 'When she declined, he passed wind in her face from around 10-15 cm away.' Sansom admitted to the 'pull my finger remark' but denied actually breaking wind. Still, he 'fully accepts his attempt at humour was misplaced and inappropriate in a modern policing workplace,' said Mr Ford. The misconduct panel also heard Sansom 'turned his back, stood on his toes and passed wind in her face' after she told him to move along. The disgusting prank was backed up by another female officer who witnessed the scene. 'He described how after he asked the PC to pull his finger, PC Sansom, in close proximity, turned away from her and passed wind very loudly - then laughed out loud and walked away.' Mr Ford then referred to an occasion in mid-December 2021 when the female officer described assisting on a call-out involving 'people who did not speak English' with PC Sansom. He was also accused of asking the female officer 'questions about her sexuality' and 'calling her a lesbian'. PC Sansom claimed that he only asked the officer 'once' about her sexuality after 'hearing rumours circulate about his colleagues' personal life. 'He was concerned that this could lead to her being unfairly treated or talked about.' PC Jeffries was said to have made 'discourteous remarks' to the same female officer about her sexuality. 'This included asking her personal questions of a sexual nature, asking about rimming and asking if she had gone down on someone and asking if someone had gone down on her,' said Mr Ford. PC Jeffries took a picture of his testicles using the female officer's mobile phone at an Extinction Rebellion protest on August 25, 2021, the panel heard. She had asked PC Jeffries and a colleague if they could get her some water from a nearby shop, and handed over her mobile telephone so they could use her Apple Pay. 'When they returned, they were laughing as they approached, and she assumed they had done something to her phone. 'When PC Jeffries handed her back her phone, she opened it and noticed that the last application used was the camera. 'She looked at the last photographs taken and saw what she believed to be a testicle. 'She said: "That's disgusting", and he (Jeffries) replied: "Why are you getting offended? It's just a picture of my balls".' PC Jeffries also made 'discourteous remarks motivated by race' about a different female colleague at Wembley Police Station. 'She says that PC Fitzpatrick invited her to take a seat, whereupon PC Jeffries said to her "no, take a knee".' That remark, the authorities say, was no doubt a reference to a gesture used by the Black Lives Matter movement. Mr Ford told the hearing of a second incident in which the female officer went to open a door at the police station to find PC Jeffries holding it shut as a joke. 'When he released the door, he laughed and said to her words along the lines of: 'I thought you were going to start screaming Black Lives Matter'. The officer was 'annoyed and upset about this remark' and recalled another occasion when PC Jeffries pretended to light-heartedly punch her and then said: 'Oh, Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter!' Panel chair Alison Baller said Sansom and Jeffries were 'disrespectful and discourteous' towards colleagues. They also 'discriminated against them unlawfully by making sexist, homophobic and unlawful comments'. 'The panel had found that PC B made it known to PC Jeffries that she did not appreciate his remarks. 'PC B said that for months she was trying to figure out what she had done to PC Sansom and PC Jeffries for them to behave in the way they did. 'Without realising, it began affecting her personal life and her mental health, to the point she had to contact a therapist.' Ms Baller referred to 'increasing societal concerns' regarding this type of behaviour and said their conduct had amounted to 'regular, sustained behaviour over a period of time.' Speaking of PC Jeffries she said: 'There were multiple proven allegations and breaches of professional behaviour.' Regarding PC Sansom she said: 'As an experienced police officer with over 20 years' service, there was an expectation for PC Sansom to act as a role model. 'It is imperative policing makes it clear this is wholly unacceptable. Ms Baller added: 'The panel considered whether a final written warning would be sufficient in this case. 'The panel considered whether it would be appropriate, but did not find any circumstances that would be appropriate in this case. 'The panel came to the view that the only result could be immediate dismissal from the force. 'The panel considered the local community would be concerned that an officer who behaved so badly towards colleagues was still serving as a Met police officer.' Both officers were immediately dismissed from the force and were informed of their respective rights to appeal. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who leads policing for the North West Command, said: 'The actions and comments made by both PC Jeffries and PC Samson were disgusting, wholly inappropriate and fell far below the standards expected of Met police officers. It is right they have been dismissed. 'I would encourage our staff to continue to report any wrongdoing so that we can take action.' The officers will now both be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing. Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by police, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct or His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
