Flight attendant jailed after teenage girl finds phone taped to plane toilet
A pervert has been jailed after taping his phone to the lid of an airplane toilet to film young girls.
American Airlines attendant Estes Carter Thompson III pleaded guilty earlier this year after he was found to have recorded five underage girls over nine months working with the airline.
He was also found with a collection of AI-generated images of child sexual abuse.
As he was sent down for 18-and-a-half years on Wednesday, the 37-year-old apologised, branding his actions "selfish, perverse and wrong".
District judge Julia Kobick said his filming of the children had stolen their innocence, calling his behaviour "appalling".
In a sentencing memorandum seen by Boston.com, federal prosecutors said he had been 'recording videos of the children's bodies in one of their most private moments, and then storing, editing, and revisiting those videos, all for his own sexual gratification."
He 'robbed five young girls of their innocence and belief in the goodness of the world and the people they would encounter in it, instead leaving them with fear, mistrust, insecurity, and sadness,' prosecutors said.
In September 2023, he was finally rumbled after escorting a 14-year-old to the toilet. While doing so, he asked to enter before her so he could wash his hands - and told her the toilet seat was not working.
The girl inspected the underside of the seat and found an iPhone hidden crudely under some red stickers which said "seat broken".
With her own phone, the girl took photos of the hidden device and showed them to her parents when she got back to her seat.
Thompson was confronted by the girl's father, leading him to hide in the bathroom for the rest of the flight. While hiding in the cubicle, he deleted all of the data from his phone.
But police trawled his iCloud data and found additional recordings of four other girls aged seven, nine, 11 and 14. He also had a video of an unaccompanied nine-year-old sleeping in her seat. In his suitcase, they discovered more red stickers like those found on the toilet seat.
In March, he pleaded guilty to attempted sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography depicting a prepubescent minor.
He is being sent to FMC Butner in North Carolina, where he is expected to undergo sex offender treatment.
After his initial sentence, he will have to serve a further five under supervised release.
American Airlines immediately sacked Thompson. However, a civil lawsuit has been launched against the company by one of the victims' families.
Texas-based law firm Lewis & Llewellyn, which is representing the family, said Thompson's ability to exploit his position was "deeply troubling", adding: 'American Airlines owes these families — and the public — answers and meaningful reforms to ensure this can never happen again."

Patrick Mahomes Sr discovers fate of special Kansas City Chiefs request amid DWI probation
Sr has received the green light from a judge to watch his son's first preseason game for the Kansas City Chiefs next month. The father of the superstar Chiefs quarterback must get permission to leave Texas following his DWI arrest last year, having cut a plea deal with prosecutors for five years' probation with 'intense' supervision for the first 12 months. And according to TMZ Sports, on July 17 Mahomes Sr requested to attend Kansas City's preseason game against the Cardinals in Arizona on August 9, a request which was granted on July 22. The 54-year-old said he will be in Arizona from August 8-10 and plans to stay at a Glendale-area hotel throughout. He also promised to follow the conditions of his probation while on the trip, which includes submitting a urinalysis test upon his return to Texas. Mahomes Sr was previously arrested for driving while intoxicated in 2008 and 2019, and last year was also banned from driving after being found on the roads without a valid license. He spent 10 days in jail before cutting the plea deal. He has previously been given a judge's permission to attend an autograph show in Minnesota and his son's charity golf event in Las Vegas back in May. The former baseball pitcher was also allowed to head to New Orleans in February to watch his son line up in yet another Super Bowl, which ended in defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles. There could well be more requests on the way with the Chiefs set to begin the 2025 NFL season in September, although he will be into the second year of his probation by that point. Mahomes has two other preseason fixtures to come next month, with the second coming away to the Seattle Seahawks on August 15. The Chiefs, who are seeking redemption after their Super Bowl crushing at the hands of the Eagles, then return to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chicago Bears on August 22. They begin the new NFL season against the Los Angeles Charges in Brazil on September 5, before a rematch with the Eagles takes place in Kansas City on September 14. Road trips to the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars, as well as a home clash against the Baltimore Ravens, make up their first five games of the campaign.

'TikTok Cult' pastor's home raided by cops in sex trafficking probe
Alleged 'TikTok cult' leader and pastor Robert Shinn has had a property he partly owns raided by officials as part of an investigation into allegations of sex trafficking A home connected to a " TikTok cult" pastor was raided by police as part of a probe into sex trafficking and other criminal activities. The property partially owned by Pastor Robert Shinn was stormed by federal agents from the FBI, the US Postal Service, Department of Labor and IRS and several people were detained. The pastor was the subject of a 2024 Netflix documentary series called "Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult" but the identities of the people arrested are not clear. Officials reportedly raided the California home over allegations of sex trafficking, tax evasion, money laundering, mail fraud, and COVID-19 -related fraud. The raided home was the same property featured on the Netflix show and the warrant is connected with the alleged cult in the docuseries, according to the Los Angeles Times. Helicopter footage from local station KTLA showed at least six people handcuffed, including an older woman and a woman holding a child. Officials entered the home at 6am on Friday morning as a neighbour, in the Tujunga area, said he heard loud bangs, according to the LA Times. The local said: "I was getting ready for work when I heard the flash-bangs go off. Then a loud speaker ... 'You need to come out, hands up.' All the neighbors came out to find FBI, Sheriff's Department and police taking up the whole area." Shinn founded the Shekinah Church in 1994 and helped to create an LA-based talent management agency called 7M Films. This company has been accused of allegedly luring in dancers by telling them they will become famous on TikTok. Some of these dancers allegedly also worked for the church and recruited for the talent management company. Four people who worked for 7M and were part of the Shekinah Church claimed Shinn manipulated and abused them. Some of these people also accused the pastor of sexual assault. Shinn reportedly would call himself "the Man of God" and told followers in the alleged cult that his teachings would grant them salvation. The Netflix docuseries follows former members of the Shekinah Church and how they escaped the alleged cult and rebuilt their lives afterwards. A former member, Dancer Aubrey Fisher, claimed Shinn forced her to give the church 70% of her income - which allegedly included a 10% "man of God fee" for Shinn himself. Another ex-member, Melanie Wilking, went viral in 2022 when she said she was trying to reach her sister Miranda and said she was "no longer in control" of her life. The sisters had a TikTok page that was made when they joined the 7M management company. Shinn has denied claims the Shekinah Church and 7M are affiliated with one another. The alleged cult leader did not personally respond to the Netflix series but 7M released an Instagram post, at the time, which claimed the show referring to the group as a cult were "false statements", according to the LA Times.
