Frenchman who robbed Kim Kardashian dies of cancer aged 69

Paris, France -- A French robber convicted with seven others of stealing jewelry worth US$10 million from reality television star Kim Kardashian in Paris in 2016 died on Thursday, a source close to the case said.
Didier Dubreucq, 69, was diagnosed with lung cancer during pre-trial detention and had been undergoing chemotherapy.
He was among 10 suspects to be tried earlier this year for stealing jewels from the American influencer, including a huge diamond ring from her now ex-husband, rapper Kayne West.
Dubreucq, who police nicknamed 'Blue Eyes' due to his piercing gaze, was accused of being the second person who stormed into Kardashian's hotel room on the night of October 2-3, 2016, but he denied the charges.
A Paris court last month sentenced him to seven years in jail, including five suspended, over the robbery.
He was absent for the ruling as he was undergoing chemotherapy, and did not return to jail as he had already served his two years in pre-trial detention.
In April, he had however turned up in court after a chemotherapy session to say he had 'nothing to do' with the theft.
He said he did not like to be labelled an 'armed robber' despite having served a 23-year sentence for past armed robberies.
'I'm a good guy,' he said, rejecting suggestions that he was a 'thug.'
Since becoming a father at the age of 50, Dubreucq said, he had put an end to the 'big mistakes' of the past.
None of the eight people convicted last month returned to jail, including 69-year-old ringleader Aomar Ait Khedache, because of the time they had spent behind bars awaiting trial.

Police investigate an armed robbery at the Ontario Educational Credit Union Ltd. on Alliance Boulevard in Barrie, Ont., on Nov. 9, 2023. A major multi-jurisdictional police investigation into a string of armed bank robberies across southern Ontario, including one that happened in Barrie, has resulted in five arrests. The case, dubbed Project Opal, brought together several police services, including Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), after a rash of eight robberies took place between December 2022 and March 2024. Police say each robbery followed a similar pattern with two or three masked suspects entering the bank shortly before closing time, and at least one carried a handgun. Investigators believe the same group is responsible for more than $2 million in combined losses across all eight banks. The stolen funds have not been recovered. In several of the later robberies, police say bank employees were tied up, including a robbery at the Ontario Educational Credit Union Ltd. on Alliance Boulevard in Barrie in November 2023. At that time, Barrie police said two men with their faces covered burst into the credit union armed with guns and demanded money. Two employees had been bound while the suspects made off with a 'large amount of Canadian currency.' Between June and September 2025, police say four suspects were arrested in connection with several robberies. On Friday, the OPP charged a 33-year-old man from Coburg with two counts of robbery with a restricted or prohibited weapon in relation to robberies in Barrie and Newmarket. He is currently in police custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 8 in Oshawa. Police say another suspect, a 33-year-old man from Ajax, remains on the run. They encourage anyone with information on his whereabouts not to approach him, 'instead contact police immediately.' The investigation remains ongoing.

Man with knife allegedly demands cash in Lethbridge liquor store robbery
Lethbridge police are looking for help identifying a suspect in a liquor store robbery. The robbery happened at the Ace Liquor store in the 300 block of Bluefox Blvd North at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26. Police say the suspect selected liquor, approached the front counter and then pulled out a knife and demanded cash from the worker. The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported. Police say the suspect was in his 40s or 50s and about six-feet-tall with a medium build. Anyone who with information on the man's identity is asked to call police at 403-328-4444. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Regina police searching for suspect after downtown assault and robbery
Regina police are looking for a third person believed to be involved in a downtown robbery on June 20, 2025. (Photo courtesy: Regina Police Service) Two people are facing charges and a third suspect remains at large after a person was assaulted and robbed of their cellphone and money at a business in downtown Regina last Friday. According to a Regina police news release, officers were called to a business on the 1800 block of Broad Street around 6 p.m. on June 20. Information indicated that two females and one male entered the business then threatened and assaulted the victim before stealing a cellphone and money. The male also falsely identified himself as a police officer, the release said. Officers arrested a 30-year-old woman on June 21 and a 45-year-old man on June 22. The woman was charged with robbery and the man was charged with robbery and impersonating a police officer. A third suspect remains at large, and Regina police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
