Janelle James Looks Back on Not Getting Role on Netflix's ‘GLOW' After She 'Nailed' Audition

Janelle James is looking back on a role that got away. While appearing in Kelly Ripa's Let's Talk Off Camera podcast, the Abbott Elementary star was asked if she's able to watch projects she auditioned for but didn't get. James then reflected on the one role she 'really wanted.' More from The Hollywood Reporter U.K. Streaming Levy Officially Rejected by Government: "We Support a Mixed Ecology" 2025 Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival Opening Lineup Announced 'The Residence' and 'Pulse' Canceled at Netflix 'I haven't thought about this in awhile. Another thing I was excited about that I auditioned for once was GLOW. Do you remember that? The female wrestling,' James said. 'I really wanted that role.' She continued, 'It was for one of the female wrestlers, and we had to make up an '80s rap and perform it in the audition, and also do a fight scene with ourselves. I did this rap and then I did a round kick. And I remember leaving that audition like, 'Nailed it.' And did not get that role.' Thus far James said she hasn't 'watched one second of that show.' 'I'm so salty,' she added before offering that perhaps she would watch it that day after the interview. In 2020, Netflix reversed its fourth-season renewal decision on GLOW, citing COVID-19 issues as the reason they would not go forward with the series' final installment. GLOW had started production on season four at the time. It completed one episode and started a second before the coronavirus pandemic led to production shutdowns for it and other series and films. The series earned 18 Emmy nominations and three wins over the course of its three-season run. The show, created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, was a fictionalized telling of the real-life women's professional wrestling program called Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling that launched in the 1980s. Alix Earle Says She 'Immediately Regretted' Getting Veneers

Just when we thought the internet couldn't get any weirder, Alix Earle started her most recent TikTok by filing down her front tooth. 'I bit it off a little bit at dinner last night, so I want to see if I could smooth it out a little bit,' she said before jokingly quipping, 'Veneer reveal!' The Hot Mess podcast host shared that she had the dental procedure done during her senior year of college in order to straighten her smile, as her two front teeth had shortened from her Invisalign treatment. While she only wanted two veneers, she said her dentist at the time convinced her to get 10. She admitted that she 'immediately regretted' the decision and that she refrained from posting about it because she 'never wants to influence people to do something that I don't think they should do.' Alix then held back tears as she reflected on her regretful decision. 'I think it was really scary for me, and I was like, 'What did I just do?'' she said. 'And I had such good teeth and, I'm like, 'Oh my God, I have to keep up with this for the rest of my life.'' She continued, 'I will say I don't regret a lot, but it is something I really regret doing. At the end of the day, whatever. It was my decision, but I feel like it was kind of one of those decisions that was made pretty fast. And I just didn't think it all the way through or, I think, talk to enough people.' Fans flooded Alix's comments section with love, praising her for her vulnerability. 'This was humanizing, honestly. I appreciate this transparency,' one fan wrote, while another added, 'Regretting things that are irreversible is a different type of pain.' The multihyphenate—who was recently featured on the June cover of Sports Illustrated, nbd—also shared a recent encounter when her tooth chipped in front of Kate Hudson. It fell out as she sipped on a margarita during a party on the Ritz-Carlton cruise line, and Alix said that the Running Point star was 'so, so sweet' about the situation. 'Thank God for her because otherwise I would've been alone, crying about my tooth,' said Alix. Honestly, same.

Quinta Brunson 'looking forward to moving away' from Abbott Elementary character

Quinta Brunson is "looking forward" to breaking away from her Abbott Elementary character. The actress, who created the sitcom and plays elementary school teacher Janine Teagues, explained to Bustle that she's on the hunt for her next role and is deliberately looking for a part that's different from her most famous character. "Right now, I'm receiving scripts, and waiting for that moment that feels like, 'Oh man, this is exactly what I've been looking for,'" she said. "Abbott has been so successful, and I want to use that success to get other people's projects off the ground." She added, "I'm always interested in playing against type. I think that's any actor's dream. Right now my type is 'Janine' and 'teacher.' I'm looking forward to moving away from that a little bit." Brunson launched the show in 2021, and in January, it was renewed for a fifth season that is expected to air in the autumn. While she has yet to definitively disclose when the show will conclude, Brunson indicated to the publication that she and her co-stars are ready to explore other projects outside of Abbott Elementary. "We are so fortunate and blessed to be on a network TV show for five seasons, and for people to still be fans," she stated. "That being said, I have cast members who would love to pursue other projects, and our show is very time-consuming. We shoot about seven months out of the year. That can stop people from being able to do a lot of other things."
