MLA Sindhura urges Irrigation Min to release pending land compensation for farmers
Vijayawada: Puttaparthi MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy, along with former minister Dr Palle Raghunatha Reddy, met Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu in Amaravati on Tuesday, urging him to sanction the pending land compensation for farmers who lost their lands under the 9th package of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project near Puttaparthi.
The MLA brought to the Minister's notice that several farmers in Pedda Kammavaripalli village, under Ward 20 of Puttaparthi Municipality, had their lands acquired in 2017 during the previous TDP government for canal construction under Survey No. 374, but have not received any compensation to date. While some farmers under the same survey number were granted compensation at the rate of ₹23 lakhs per acre, others such as Mummaneni Venkata Narayana, Mummaneni Rammohan, and a few more are still awaiting their dues.
The MLA emphasized that despite eight years passing, the affected farmers have not been compensated.
They also pointed out that land prices have significantly increased since 2017, and urged the government to reassess and ensure appropriate compensation is paid in line with current land values.
They appealed for immediate and fair resolution in favor of the affected farmers.
In response, Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and assured that the government is committed to supporting the affected farming community.
He promised to seek detailed reports from district officials regarding the pending compensation under the 9th package of the Handri-Neeva canal and take swift action to ensure justice is delivered. The minister also pledged to investigate the reasons for the delay in compensation and address the matter promptly.

In the case of the Polavaram Left Main Canal, he issued instructions to expedite challenging components such as the highway bridge, Pampa aqueduct, and Krishnavaram siphon. Agencies were directed to ramp up execution speed and ensure that progress aligns with deadlines. Irrigation Advisor M. Venkateswara Rao, Engineer-in-Chief Narasimha Rao, Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers of the respective projects, senior irrigation officials, and representatives from executing agencies attended the meeting.

Madhav is a candidate who meets multiple criteria — organisational loyalty, Sangh roots, regional representation, and community appeal. The BJP, as it continues to build its base in the largely unexplored political terrain of southern India, has recognised the need for this kind of a leadership in Andhra Pradesh. Madhav succeeds D Purandeshwari — a prominent figure from the renowned NTR family — and his elevation marks a significant shift as it follows the BJP's improvement in the 2024 assembly elections. From a vote share of less than 1 per cent in 2019 — lower than NOTA –the party has made tangible gains in both assembly and Lok Sabha segments. This decision aligns with a discernible trend in post-bifurcation Andhra politics. Over the past decade, the party has appointed four state presidents—two from the Kamma community and two from the Kapu community; two with strong RSS backgrounds and two who previously belonged to the Congress. Madhav, a member of the BC community and a long-time Sangh affiliate, fits the BJP's current requirements both socially and ideologically. A cost accountant by profession, PVN Madhav has deep roots in the Sangh Parivar, having been active in the ABVP and BJYM since his early years. The son of BJP veteran and former MLC P.V. Unlike neighbouring Telangana—where the BJP has had a longer presence and a wider pool of contenders—Andhra Pradesh offered relatively limited options for leadership selection. Over the years, several leaders within the BJP in Andhra have migrated from the TDP, while many of the original BJP loyalists have either taken on key roles within the state or been accommodated at the Centre. For instance, Satya Kumar currently serves as the state's Health Minister, while Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma has been inducted into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Union Cabinet. The recent Lok Sabha polls validated BJP's emerging foothold, with the party winning all three seats it contested. Key precautionary measures completed to prevent repeat of Budameru flood: Nimmala Ramanaidu
Minister for Water Resources Nimmala Ramanaidu announced that significant precautionary measures have been completed to prevent a repeat of the devastating Budameru flood that inundated Vijayawada last year. Speaking after inspecting the works on Monday, the Minister noted that 'Operation Budameru' — a permanent and large-scale flood mitigation plan — may take another three to four years to be implemented fully. The government is making all-out efforts to expedite the project in coordination with the Central government and Disaster Management authorities. Until then, immediate safety works for Vijayawada city have already been completed under the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's direction, he said. The Minister said that a 365 metre-long concrete retaining wall (CC wall) has been constructed to seal three breaches that had occurred along the Budameru bund during last year's flood. Financial clearance for the wall was granted in April, tenders were finalised in May, and the construction was completed in record time ahead of the monsoon season. Alongside the CC wall, the left bund of Budameru is being reinforced by raising its height by half a metre throughout 7 km, he said. Highlighting the issue of the Velagaleru regulator, where floodgates had failed to open during last year's deluge, he said that the previous government had neglected even basic maintenance like greasing the gates. It was only through the help of local farmers and JCB machinery that the gates were opened at the time. Now, all 12 gates of the regulator have been replaced at ₹1.8 crore, he said. Mr. Ramanaidu further said that the current discharge capacity of the old Budameru channel and Enikepadu outfall drain is only 4,000 cusecs, which is being enhanced to 20,000 cusecs. In addition, desilting is being carried out along the 57-kilometre Budameru drain stretch from Enikepadu to Kolleru to ensure smooth water flow, he said. To safely carry floodwater from Kolleru into the sea via the Upputeru channel, desilting work is also under way with ₹9 crore worth of tenders already issued. Irrigation Advisor M. Venkateswara Rao, ENC Narasimhamaurthy, Krishna Delta CE Rambabu, and other senior officials were also present.
