ULFA(I) claims drone attacks on its camps along Myanmar border by Indian Army, defence official says no such information
According to a PTI report, the ULFA(I) said that the attacks were carried out with drones in the early hours at several mobile camps and that a senior leader of the banned outfit was killed. The outfit also claimed that 19 others were injured in the attacks.
When contacted, a defence spokesperson in Guwahati told PTI that there was no information of any such incident. 'There are no inputs with the Indian Army of such an operation,' Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said.
On June 14, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had chargesheeted three people accused in the case relating to the ULFA(I) conspiracy to carry out multiple IED blasts in Assam on Independence Day last year.
The chargesheeted were identified as Paresh Baruah, Chairman and SS Commander-in-Chief of the proscribed terrorist groups ULFA, along with Abhijit Gogoi and Jahnu Boruah. All three were charged under various sections of BNS, UA (P) Act and The Explosives Substance Act, news agency PTI reported.
The trio were found linked with the IED planted by the terror outfit at Dispur Last Gate, Guwahati, Assam, as part of the ULFA (I) conspiracy to trigger multiple IED blasts across Assam, including at Dispur Last Gate, to disrupt the I-Day celebrations last year.
NIA, which took over the case in September 2024, found during investigation that the IEDs had been planted to cause death/injuries to persons and/or loss/damage/destruction to property, with the intent to threaten the unity, integrity, security and sovereignty of India, and to strike terror among the people of the country.

Surat: A 19-year-old woman from Dindoli has filed a defamation complaint against a Mumbai resident, Sahil Patel, for allegedly taking her nude photos without consent and circulating them on Instagram. In April 2023, the victim's sister filed a complaint with Andheri police after Patel allegedly made a video of her. A similar incident followed in June 2023, when Patel created a disturbance during the victim's tuition class, prompting her to approach the Vile Parle police. He later apologized, and the victim resumed contact with him, which eventually led to a relationship. While residing in Surat, the victim stayed in touch with Patel over video calls. During one such call, he allegedly coerced her into appearing nude and secretly took screenshots. When she refused to repeat the act, Patel began threatening to leak the images. Police said Patel created a fake Instagram account through which he shared the victim's nude pictures and reels with her cousin, and later circulated them to several of her friends in Mumbai. Following the incident, the victim approached Dindoli police and filed a complaint under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind team visits eviction site, sets up shelters
Guwahati: A delegation from Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani faction) visited Goalpara district in lower Assam on Tuesday to assess the aftermath of a recent eviction drive and helped set up temporary shelters for those evicted. The recent eviction drives at Hahilabil (also known as Hasilabil) and Ashudubi in Goalpara's Paikan led to the demolition of approximately 4,000 houses, primarily affecting Bengali-origin migrant Muslim families. The delegation comprised five members, led by the organisation's general secretary, Maulana Hakim Uddin Qasimi. The ASJU provided assistance by establishing temporary shelters, while local organisations and residents offered essential humanitarian support, including food provisions. The delegation engaged with affected families and evaluated the conditions at the demolition. "Whatever has happened in Goalpara was painful. People of our own country are being evicted. Govt first needs to arrange shelter for them, then other decisions may be taken," Hakim Uddin said, noting the deprivation of basic necessities and advised the displaced residents to remain patient. A preliminary report by Maulana Badruddin Ajmal and Hafiz Bashir Ahmad Qasmi detailed that demolitions from Nov 2023 to July 2025 affected 8,115 families across Goalpara, Dhubri, and Nalbari districts.

DC warns pvt schools over RTE non-compliance
Ranchi: Deputy commissioner, Manjunath Bhajantri, on Tuesday issued strict directives to private schools that have failed to admit students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Schools absent from the official review meeting were served final warnings along with show cause notices. They have been told to complete the enrolment process failing which their RTE recognition would be cancelled. The action was taken during a meeting held at the Ranchi district collectorate auditorium, where the DC reviewed the status of enrolment under the RTE provision mandating 25 per cent reservation for children from disadvantaged backgrounds in primary classes of all recognised private schools. For the 2025-26 academic session, 1,217 RTE seats were open in 121 private schools in the district for which altogether 1,744 applications were received. Of these, 1,158 were found valid. As of now, 672 seats have been allocated through lottery system, of which enrolment process of 493 are complete. Some of the remaining applications were sent back to schools for urgent processing. Particular criticism was directed at Delhi Public School (DPS) Ranchi, which has failed to admit 24 selected students citing incomplete documentation. The deputy commissioner said, "The referred applications were already verified and termed the school's excuses unacceptable. If valid reasons are not provided soon, DPS may also face cancellation of its RTE recognition." Jaya Chauhan, principal of DPS, Ranchi, said, "The applications were rejected due to absence of proper admission documents. However, around 15 admissions have already been completed for candidates who submitted the required papers."
