DC warns pvt schools over RTE non-compliance

Time of India7 hours ago
Ranchi: Deputy commissioner, Manjunath Bhajantri, on Tuesday issued strict directives to private schools that have failed to admit students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
Schools absent from the official review meeting were served final warnings along with show cause notices. They have been told to complete the enrolment process failing which their RTE recognition would be cancelled.
The action was taken during a meeting held at the Ranchi district collectorate auditorium, where the DC reviewed the status of enrolment under the RTE provision mandating 25 per cent reservation for children from disadvantaged backgrounds in primary classes of all recognised private schools.
For the 2025-26 academic session, 1,217 RTE seats were open in 121 private schools in the district for which altogether 1,744 applications were received. Of these, 1,158 were found valid. As of now, 672 seats have been allocated through lottery system, of which enrolment process of 493 are complete. Some of the remaining applications were sent back to schools for urgent processing.
The deputy commissioner directed that these pending applications must be acted upon immediately.

If any application is cancelled without valid reason, it will be replaced with another eligible student to ensure the reserved quota is fulfilled.
Particular criticism was directed at Delhi Public School (DPS) Ranchi, which has failed to admit 24 selected students citing incomplete documentation. The deputy commissioner said, "The referred applications were already verified and termed the school's excuses unacceptable.
If valid reasons are not provided soon, DPS may also face cancellation of its RTE recognition."
Jaya Chauhan, principal of DPS, Ranchi, said, "The applications were rejected due to absence of proper admission documents. However, around 15 admissions have already been completed for candidates who submitted the required papers."

Cong to launch devpt projects in Mys on July 19

Mysuru: Nearly two years after launching the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, the country's largest money transfer scheme in the city, Congress is gearing up for another massive convention in Mysuru. The party is hosting Sadhana Samavesha and launching various developmental schemes on July 19, where development projects worth over Rs 2,900 crore will be launched. Even though Congress functionaries made it clear that it is an official event and not a show of strength, it is widely perceived that Congress is using the occasion to strengthen its organisation ahead of upcoming TP, ZP, and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) elections. As per the plan, the event will be held in the Maharaja's College Grounds in the heart of the city, where CM Siddaramaiah, DCM DK Shivakumar, and others will lay the foundation stone for various developmental work. A majority of the cabinet ministers of the Siddaramaiah govt will attend the event. Congress sources said AICC leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC Karnataka incharge Randeep Surjewala, will be invited for the event. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo District minister HC Mahadevappa held a review meeting of the preparations for this event last week, where he directed the officials to ensure everything from food to toilet facilities for the public. He said beneficiaries of various govt schemes and the public from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar will attend this convention along with the people's representatives. "It is not a show of strength of the party," said party district unit president BJ Vijayakumar. "Around 1 lakh public will attend the event," he said. He denied any political objectives behind the convention. Meanwhile, BJP functionaries asked the CM and his cabinet colleagues to visit Mysuru city before boasting about their achievements. "Roads are in their worst shape. Aashada Fridays are managed unscientifically. Officials are missing in the action," alleged city BJP spokesman MA Mohan. "17 scams in 24 months is the achievement of this govt. CM Siddaramaiah is holding all his major events in Mysuru to send a message to the party high command," Mohan said.

Pleas of GSECL staff to retain jobs after invalid caste certificates junked

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court has rejected a petition filed by 18 employees of the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) seeking to retain their jobs despite their caste certificates being declared invalid. The petitioners argued that they had served as Vidyut Sahayaks for 15 years and requested not to be terminated, but to instead be accommodated in the general category. They were originally appointed under the Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) category, claiming to belong to the Sindha community. However, their services were terminated after a scrutiny committee found their SEBC certificates to be invalid. While dismissing the petition, Justice Sandeep Bhatt stated, "The petitioners are continued on the posts on which they were appointed on the basis of the caste certificates, which were held to be illegal by the scrutiny committee, because of which, the rights of the genuinely deserving persons of the said community were infringed. The persons who are possessing genuine caste certificates have been waiting for their turn to be appointed but due to the petitioners, whose caste certificates are held illegal, being continued, they could not be given a chance to be appointed i.e. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo the wrong are given the benefit and the right are deprived of the benefit." Notably, the petitioners' SEBC caste certificates were found invalid as early as 2012—two years after they joined service. There were multiple rounds of litigation, up to the Supreme Court. During the pendency of these legal proceedings, the petitioners were allowed to continue in their jobs. At one stage, a division bench of the high court suggested the govt consider accommodating them under the general category, but the administration found this unfeasible. The employees then filed a fresh petition earlier this year seeking continuation of service. In this regard, Justice Bhatt observed, "This plea is not available to the petitioners, as—actually speaking—deducting the period of litigation, they effectively worked only two years. For the rest of the years, they have been working on sympathy only."

DVC releasing water to save itself, flooding Bengal: CM

Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) was releasing water to save itself while causing floods in Bengal. "DVC released nearly 27,000 lakh cubic metres of water. Despite repeated requests, they refuse to make repairs and instead release water to save themselves, causing Bengal to flood," she said. The comments came at a meeting at Nabanna to discuss the flood situation in the state. The CM lamented that the situation hadn't improved despite state govt's all-round efforts. "I have been fighting for 14 years, and several state teams, including those from the irrigation department, visited (central authorities) repeatedly. I personally wrote to the Prime Minister and mentioned it in NITI Aayog and eastern zonal council meetings. But nothing was done." Banerjee alleged Centre doesn't help even in relief work, adding, "Assam receives flood-relief funds but Bengal only gets floods." "They release water and flood the people but don't even provide money to buy a piece of cloth. We have to do everything ourselves," she alleged. A control room will be set up which the CM will personally supervise. "We are conducting regular surveillance. Relief camps should remain operational until the situation normalises. I have also instructed (officials) to ensure anti-venom medicines are stocked in flooded areas and relief camps," she said. Addressing officials, the CM said, "Even if people are in trouble, they may not be able to express it openly but as representatives of govt, you must reach out to them and extend a helping hand. Ensure that not a single person is deprived of govt assistance during this disaster." Banerjee also appealed to political parties for cooperation. "Remember, the flood situation is due to release of water by DVC. Our workers will work round-the-clock to manage this disaster," she said.
