Tihar Jail Prisoner Dies By Suicide
New Delhi: A prisoner in Tihar Jail's hospital died by suicide by hanging himself from a window, informed the Tihar Jail officials in the early hours of Monday. The prisoner was an under-trial inmate, namely Ramesh Karmakar, who was lodged in Jail Number 4 but was undergoing treatment at the jail hospital in Jail Number 3 since May 28. Karmakar's body was found hanging from a window late on the night of Sunday, and the jail authorities were informed on the early morning of Monday. In another such case, an accused named Saquib Nachan in connection with the terror group Islamic State (ISIS), died in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, informed sources said on Saturday. He has been in judicial custody in Tihar Jail since 2023 and was admitted to the hospital a few days ago, they said. Saquib was convicted for his involvement in the bomb blasts in Mumbai in 2002 and 2003. In line with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Saquib Nachan, a habitual offender in many previous terror cases, was also a self-styled Amir-e-Hind for ISIS in India. Earlier in June 2024, the National Investigative Agency (NIA) had chargesheeted Nachan along with 16 hardcore agents of a proscribed global terrorist network, in a conspiracy involving the recruitment and radicalisation of youth and the fabrication of improvised explosive devices in the Delhi-Padgha ISIS terror module case. The accused were chargesheeted under various sections of IPC, UA(P) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances ACt, were found to have been engaged in a massive ISISI conspirancy involving recruitment, training and propagation of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) ideology among gullible youth, along with fabrication of explosives and IEDs are fund-raising for the banned outfit. Its investigation had subsequently led to the seizure of several incriminating documents and data relating to the manufacturing of explosives and the fabrication of IEDs, along with propaganda magazines like 'Voice of Hindi', 'Rumiyah', 'Khhiafat', 'Dabiq', published by IS.

Prison radicalisation case: Eight, including prime accused, plead guilty
Eight accused involved in the Bengaluru prison radicalisation, including the prime accused, moved an application before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Bengaluru pleading guilty. The prime accused accused Thadiyantavida Naseer, 47, moved an application in the court on July 7, along with seven co-accused — Syed Suhail Khan alias Suhail, 24; Mohammed Umar alias Umar 30; Zahid Tabrez alias Zahid, 27; Syed Mudassir Pasha, 29; Mohammed Faisal Rabbani alias Sadath, 29, Salman Khan, 29, and Vikram Kumar alias Chhota Usman. The eight are among 12 people currently accused in the prison conspiracy case registered in 2023, which is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). They moved the application last week under Section 229 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The application allows the court to expedite the trial by convicting the accused based on their plea without a full trial. However, the NIA is preparing to submit its version on the application. The accused in their application told the court that it was voluntary and without any coercion, and sought to reduce the quantum of sentence . In July 2023, the CCB raided a house in Kodigehalli and recovered seven country-made pistols, 45 live rounds of ammunition, walkie-talkies and some documents. Further investigations led the police to believe that radicalisation happened inside the Bengaluru prison. The NIA has accused Naseer of radicalising the youths lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru. Naseer is an undertrial in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts case and was convicted in a terrorism case in Kerala and linked the LeT. Last year, the NIA chargesheeted eight people, including T. Naseer and accused no: 52, Junaid Ahmed who is presently on the run, under various sections of IPC, UA(P) Act, 1967; Arms Act, 1959 and Explosive Substances Act, 1884. The NIA court on Monday remanded three people arrested on July 8 in the same case to judicial custody. They were earlier under NIA custody for six days. The three arrested are Anees Fathima, the mother of absconding accused Junaid Ahmed, prison psychiatrist Dr. Nagaraj S., and Chan Pasha, an ASI posted at the City Armed Reserve (CAR), North Bengaluru.

ULFA(I) claims drone attacks on its camps along Myanmar border by Indian Army, defence official says no such information
The banned ULFA(I) on Sunday claimed drone attacks on its camps along the Myanmar border by the Indian Army, though there was no confirmation about the development from the armed forces. According to a PTI report, the ULFA(I) said that the attacks were carried out with drones in the early hours at several mobile camps and that a senior leader of the banned outfit was killed. The outfit also claimed that 19 others were injured in the attacks. When contacted, a defence spokesperson in Guwahati told PTI that there was no information of any such incident. 'There are no inputs with the Indian Army of such an operation,' Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said. On June 14, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had chargesheeted three people accused in the case relating to the ULFA(I) conspiracy to carry out multiple IED blasts in Assam on Independence Day last year. The chargesheeted were identified as Paresh Baruah, Chairman and SS Commander-in-Chief of the proscribed terrorist groups ULFA, along with Abhijit Gogoi and Jahnu Boruah. All three were charged under various sections of BNS, UA (P) Act and The Explosives Substance Act, news agency PTI reported. The trio were found linked with the IED planted by the terror outfit at Dispur Last Gate, Guwahati, Assam, as part of the ULFA (I) conspiracy to trigger multiple IED blasts across Assam, including at Dispur Last Gate, to disrupt the I-Day celebrations last year. NIA, which took over the case in September 2024, found during investigation that the IEDs had been planted to cause death/injuries to persons and/or loss/damage/destruction to property, with the intent to threaten the unity, integrity, security and sovereignty of India, and to strike terror among the people of the country. Lashkar-e-Taiba prison radicalisation case: NIA arrests central jail psychiatrist, 2 more from Karnataka
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday, July 8, arrested a Central Prison psychiatrist and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) among three persons from Karnataka in the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group's prison radicalisation case of 2023. The arrests were made following extensive searches in two districts of Karnataka. According to NIA, searches were conducted at five locations in Bengaluru and Kolar districts of the state which lead to the 'arrest of Dr Nagaraj, Psychiatrist, Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) ASI Chan Pasha, and Anees Fathima, mother of an absconding accused.' The investigation agency also found various digital devices, cash, gold and incriminating documents during the searches at the accused's houses. 'The case RC-28/2023/NIA/DLI relates to the recovery of arms, ammunition, explosives and digital devices, including two walkie-talkies, from habitual offenders who were conspiring to unleash terror activities in Bengaluru city with the aim of furthering the nefarious agenda of the proscribed terrorist organization LeT,' the NIA said. The Central agency said that the psychiatrist was smuggling mobile phones to inmates including Tadiyandaveed Naseer @ T Naseer, a life-time convict lodged in terror cases in Central Prison, Bengaluru. 'Besides houses of Nagaraj and Pavithra, NIA also searched the house of Anees Fathima, mother of absconder Junaid Ahmed and involved in passing instructions from Naseer to her son for raising funds and handing over the same to T Naseer in prison,' it said. 'As per NIA investigations, ASI Chan Pasha had, in 2022, been involved in passing information related to T Naseer's escort from prison to various courts in exchange of money.' In the 2023 LeT prison radicalisation case, the NIA has already chargesheeted nine accused. They include absconder 'Junaid Ahmed, under various sections of IPC and UA(P) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act in the case. Investigations and efforts to track the absconder are continuing.'
