EOW issues fresh summons to Salar Jung kin, Sena MP's driver in Rs150 crore land gift case

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The economic offences wing of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city police on Friday issued fresh summons to the descendants of the Salar Jung family from Hyderabad and Jawed Rasul Shaikh, driver of Shiv Sena MP Sandipan Bhumre and his MLA son Vilas.
Police are probing the legality of a gift deed or hibanama under which the Jung family transferred a three-acre plot valued at more than Rs150 crore in the driver's name.
Mir Mehmud Ali Khan, one of the descendants of Salar Jung, and his kin, along with Shaikh, failed to respond to the earlier summons. "After they did not turn up to record their statements the first time, fresh notices have been issued asking them to remain present before EOW," EOW inspector Sambhaji Pawar said.
On Thursday, Vilas Bhumre, MLA from Paithan, distanced himself and his father from the transaction. "Though Jawed is our driver, we are in no way connected to the land deal," he said, adding that he was also questioned by EOW in this case.
The land in question, located in Dawoodpura on Jalna Road, is part of a 12-acre parcel claimed by the Salar Jung family. According to the gift deed, 12,438.2 square metres (around three acres) were transferred to Jawed after a 2023 revenue department ruling upheld the family's claim to the land following a prolonged legal battle.
The inquiry was initiated after a police complaint by Parbhani-based lawyer Mujahid Khan, who raised questions about the propriety of such a high-value land gift to a driver, unrelated by blood and belonging to a different sect of Islam. As per Islamic law, hibanamas or gift deeds are generally considered valid among blood relatives.
Jawed, who has been working with the Bhumre family for more than a decade, earlier told TOI that he shared good relations with the Salar Jung family and received the land as a gift.
EOW continues to scrutinise the documents submitted by the complainant and is awaiting the appearance of all parties concerned for ascertaining facts.

A first-person account from Iran

"Like the battle of Karbala, this war must be fought till the end,' Reza Ahmadi, a juice vendor in his 30s, told me, as he went about his business on the busy Naser Khosro street in Shiraz, a historical town of gardens, wine and poetry in southwest Iran's Fars province. It was just two days after Israel had launched airstrikes on Iran, on Friday, June 13. Reza was invoking the 7th-century clash that, in Islamic history, stands as a symbol of moral resistance against political tyranny. We were talking amid street celebrations for Eid al-Ghadir, the air thick with revelry and the aroma of sweetened drinks. Every 10 seconds or so, the sky lit up with streaks of intercepted drones, followed by a thud of explosions. And yet, Reza barely flinched.

16 Pakistani Troops Killed In Suicide Attack; TTP Offshoot Claims Responsibility

Last Updated: A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing several soldiers and injuring civilians. At least 16 Pakistani soldiers were killed and more than two dozen others, including civilians, were injured after a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. 'A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy," said a local government official in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The blast killed 16 soldiers and injured over two dozen others, including civilians. 'The explosion also caused the roofs of two houses to collapse, injuring six children," a police officer posted in the district told AFP. The condition of four injured soldiers is critical, an administrative official added. The attack was claimed by the suicide bomber wing of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur armed group, a faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The latest comes amid a surge in violent militant attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In mid-March, the TTP announced a 'spring campaign" against security forces, threatening 'ambushes, targeted attacks, suicide attacks and strikes". The TTP has since claimed responsibility for around 100 attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Around 290 people, mostly security officials, have been killed in attacks since the start of the year by armed groups fighting the government in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, according to an AFP tally. Attacks have increased in Pakistan in particular since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021. Islamabad accuses the Taliban government in Kabul of failing to eliminate militants who take refuge on Afghan soil to prepare attacks against Pakistan. The Taliban government denies these accusations and in return accuses Pakistan of harbouring 'terrorist" cells on its soil, pointing the finger in particular at the regional branch of the Islamic State group IS-K. Last year was the deadliest year in almost a decade in Pakistan, with more than 1,600 people killed in attacks — nearly half of them security forces personnel — according to the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies.
