AAIB Chief GVG Yugandhar gets CRPF's X category security cover
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): The Centre has granted Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) X category security cover to Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) chief GVG Yugandhar, as per sources.
According to sources, the X category security was extended to AAIB Director General GVG Yugandhar, effective from June 16.
This move comes as the AAIB is spearheading the investigation into the Air India plane crash that claimed the lives of 241 passengers and crew members.
On June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College, Gujarat's Ahmedabad, shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The tragedy claimed 241 lives out of 242 onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) Lab in New Delhi is currently working intensively on analysing data retrieved from the black boxes of Air India Flight AI-171, which crashed in Ahmedabad.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Crash Protection Module (CPM) from the front black box was safely retrieved. On June 25, 2025, the memory module was successfully accessed, and its data was downloaded at the AAIB Lab.
Sources familiar with the process told ANI that an identical black box, referred to as a 'golden chassis,' was used to confirm whether data could be accurately recovered from the black boxes. One black box was recovered from the rooftop of a building at the crash site on June 13, and the other from the debris on June 16.
The investigation is being led by AAIB officials and includes technical members from the Indian Air Force (IAF), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States--the official investigative agency of the country where the aircraft was designed and manufactured.
The Director General of AAIB is heading the probe. An aviation medicine expert and an Air Traffic Control officer have also been included in the investigation team.
Sources confirmed that the NTSB team is currently stationed in Delhi and working closely with Indian authorities at the AAIB Lab. Officials from Boeing and GE are also present in the national capital to assist with the technical process. (ANI)

ED attaches assets worth Rs 557 crore of Mahira Group in money laundering case
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached assets worth approximately Rs 557.43 crore in connection with a money laundering case against the Mahira Infratech Pvt Ltd (formerly M/s Sai Aina Farms Pvt Ltd) M/s Mahira Buildtech Pvt Ltd, and M/s Czar Buildwell Pvt Ltd. According to an official release, the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of 2002 attached assets, including seven immovable properties, comprising around 35 acres of residential and commercial land, located in Gurugram's Sector 68, 63A, 103, 104, 92, 88B, and 95. Additionally, Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs) amounting to around Rs 97 lakh, belonging to various companies, have also been attached. The ED initiated the probe based on FIRs filed by Gurugram Police against M/s Sai Aaina Farms Pvt. Ltd. and others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to cheating and forgery . As per the release, the companies allegedly submitted forged documents, including fake bank guarantees, to obtain licenses for internal and external development works connected to affordable housing projects in Sectors 68, 103, and 104 of Gurugram. Over Rs 616 crore was collected from nearly 3,700 homebuyers, but the promised homes were not delivered, and the funds were allegedly misappropriated. The ED investigation revealed that the company siphoned off funds by inflating construction costs through fake invoices issued by associated entities. The money was diverted for personal gains by the company's directors and promoters, and sums from home buyers were transferred as loans to other group entities, which remain unpaid for years. On February 15, 2024, and March 26, 2025, the ED had attached properties worth Rs 81.07 crore linked to M/s Sai Aaina Farms Pvt. Ltd., M/s Mahira Buildtech Pvt. Ltd., M/s D S Home Construction Pvt. Ltd., Sikandar Singh, Dharam Singh Chhoker (ex-MLA), Vikas Chhoker, and related companies involved in the case. Sikandar Singh, a promoter of the Mahira Group, was arrested on April 30, 2024. A prosecution complaint has been filed, and the Special Court in Gurugram has taken cognisance of the same. Another key accused, Dharam Singh Chhoker, who had evaded arrest for over a year despite six non-bailable warrants, was arrested on May 5. Vikas Chhoker remains absconding, and a proclamation has been issued against him by the Special Court in Gurugram. Further investigation is underway. (ANI)

Mega mock drill conducted at Rajiv Chowk metro station to test emergency response
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): A multi-agency mega mock exercise was conducted at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station in Delhi during the intervening night of June 27 and 28, from 01:05 AM to 04:25 AM, to assess the preparedness and coordinated response of various agencies in the event of a major contingency. The drill imitated multiple high-risk scenarios, including a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) attack, a terrorist strike, a hostage situation, and an IED blast. The primary objective of the drill was to evaluate the real-time coordination, crisis response, and operational readiness of the relevant agencies. A total of 594 personnel participated in the exercise, which saw the involvement of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), National Security Guard (NSG), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), DMRP, Delhi Fire Service, Medical Services, DCD, Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi SWAT, Delhi Police, New Delhi Municipal Committee (NDMC), and the Intelligence Bureau. Senior officials, including G Shivakumar, DIG/DMRC, and Ashok Jalwaniya, Sr Commandant, were present during the exercise. The mock drill concluded with a debriefing session led by senior officers from the participating units. Earlier, a Joint team of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and the Indian Army conducted a mock drill in view of flood prevention and rescue operations at Bada Talab in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal on Friday. The mock drill aimed to ensure a quick and coordinated response in the event of an emergency, enhance efficiency in rescue and relief operations, and strengthen cooperation and coordination among various agencies. During the joint exercise, relief, search, and rescue operations were demonstrated, taking into account the scenario of a flood. The team practised dealing with emergency situations, such as evacuating people trapped on the island, rescuing those trapped in houses or trees, and saving them with the help of boats and ropes. The team of NDRF-SDRF and army personnel demonstrated their preparations using flood relief equipment and modern techniques. Additional Chief Secretary (ACS, Home) J N Kansotiya said, 'Today, a mock drill was conducted by our Army and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) team. Efforts were made to deal with flood situations and to rescue people affected by them. Different situations were created in this mock drill, such as rescuing someone stuck on an island or trapped in a house surrounded by water or trees. Our army personnel performed the exercises in the mock drill.' The civil administration takes the assistance of the Army when required during field operations, which helps in saving the lives of people. The SDRF team also gets help with it, he added. (ANI)

Delhi Police arrest member of Arsh Dalla Gang, four pistols recovered
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): The Special Task Force (STF) of the South East District Police arrested an active member of the Arsh Dalla gang from Delhi and recovered four semi-automatic pistols along with three spare magazines from his possession. According to an official release, the arrested accused has been identified as Ekamjot Singh Sandhu (18), a resident of Sardulgarh, Mansa, Punjab. He was nabbed by a team led by Inspector Shiv Kumar, Incharge STF South East District, and supervised by ACP Operations South East District Dalip Singh. The operation was carried out near the ESI Hospital in Okhla, where a trap was laid based on specific inputs. According to the police, Ekamjot Singh was involved in trafficking illegal firearms for the gang and had procured a consignment of weapons from Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh. There was information that gangsters and hardcore criminals of Delhi and Punjab have been procuring sophisticated firearms from MP-based arms suppliers. This information was further developed, and efforts were made to identify the persons indulging in arms procurement from MP. Manual and technical surveillance was mounted on the members of these gangs, and secret sources were deputed to gather more information in this regard. After efforts of more than a month, members of an interstate illegal firearm syndicate being run by the cadres of, Arsh Dalla gang, namely, Babbu Dalema, based in the UAE, and Paramjeet Singh alias Pamma Bhikhi, were identified. On June 18, specific information was received that Ekamjot Singh, a member of the Arsh Dalla gang, had procured a consignment of pistols from Burhanpur, MP. As per further information, he was on his way to Punjab via Delhi, where he would meet one of his contacts and supply him with some arms near the ESI hospital, Okhla, Delhi. Subsequently, a raiding party was immediately constituted, and a trap was laid. At around 10.05 pm, suspect Ekamjot Singh, who was carrying a backpack, was spotted at the bus stand near the ESI hospital, Okhla, Delhi. He was nabbed by the members of the team, and a search of his bag was conducted. A total of four semi-automatic pistols, i.e. two pistols of .30 bore and two pistols of .32 bore, with three spare magazines, were recovered from him. A case under sections 25(8) Arms Act was registered in PS Okhla Industrial Area, Delhi, in this regard on June 19. On interrogation, Ekamjot revealed that he was very keen to join the Arsh Dalla gang. For this purpose, he contacted one of his criminal friends, namely Babbu Dalema, presently residing in the UAE. After being convinced about the credentials of Ekamjot, Babbu Dalema gave the contact details of Paramjeet Singh alias Pamma Bhikhi residing in Punjab. Paramjeet Singh, who is an associate of 'A' class gangster of Punjab, Sukhdool Singh Gill alias Sukha Dunek,e connected to Arsh Dalla (Anti Lawrence Bishnoi gang). In the year 2023, Sukha Duneke was killed in Canada by the members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. On the directions of Babbu Dalema by his virtual Whatsapp number, accused Ekamjot procured these sophisticated pistols from Burhanpur, MP and which were meant for the supply to Paramjeet Singh and his associates. From the interrogation of the arrested person and based on the investigation of various earlier cases of arms trafficking, it has been revealed that there is a growing trend in Punjab to acquire firearms. During the last 2-3 years, these gangsters and criminals have frequently been getting firearms from MP-based arms suppliers. Further interrogation of the accused is in progress to identify the other members of the gang and forward & backwards linkages of arms trafficking in the case. (ANI)
