Revealed: How Aussie WWE superstar Rhea Ripley could have played for the Matildas
But things could have been very different for the 28-year-old Adelaide native.
The super-strong Aussie has become one of the biggest and most recognisable names on the planet but has endured a topsy-turvey 12 months.
After headlining the WWE Women's World Championship in Perth on February 24, 2024, Ripley bested Nia Jax to retain her WWE Women's World Title.
Despite the high of winning such a huge match, Ripley suffered a brutal shoulder injury that forced her out of action for several months.
It was an agonising period for the 28-year-old Adelaide native, who had been working to reach the pinnacle of world wrestling since she was a teenager.
'When you get injured, you learn a lot about yourself, and 2024 was not very kind to me,' she told Channel 9's Wide World of Sports.
Ripley grew up in Glenelg in South Australia, and attended the Henley High School.
It was in 2013 when she began working for Australian wrestling promotion, Riot City Wrestling, finding her way in the sport, before going on to be crowned a two-time RCW Women's Champion.
Ripley, a determined and skilful athlete, also turned her hand to several other sports, including swimming, rugby, netball and soccer.
A known Adelaide FC fan, and had played football for the semi-pro football club Fulham United, who are based in West Beach.
And while the WWE superstar could perhaps have gone down the path of playing pro football, the wrestler has showcased her skills in the past.
While featuring in a video on Juventus' Instagram account, Ripley showcased her impressive skills, performing several keepy-uppies while also holding up a Juventus home jersey.
She did all this while wearing a pair of high-heeled boots.

Ripley (right) said she was inspired to get into wrestling after watching a match between Triple H and Ric Flair
But after watching the likes of Triple H and Ric Flair step into the ring to do battle, Ripley instead opted for a life in WWE.
'My friends showed me a clip of Triple H versus Ric Flair, and Triple H shoved the screwdriver in Ric Flair's head. Yeah, that got me into wrestling,' she told Sportskeeda.
Ripley, whose real name is Demi Bennett and married fellow WWE star Buddy Matthews last year, signed with WWE in 2017 before going on to compete in the inaugural Mae Young Classic.
She'd go on to be crowned the NXT Women's Champion, the Raw Women's Champion, before going on to star as the Women's World Champion.
Reflecting on her 2024, Ripley admitted she had to battle with her mind to challenge for the World Championship again but had suffered another brutal injury in the process.
'It definitely was a mental struggle and also a physical struggle - training legs every single day was terrible, but I finally came back and I got to go for my world championship again and try and grab that back - but then I broke my orbital bone (eye socket),' she said.
'It was just injuries flying left and right, but I learned a lot about myself in that I can pretty much overcome whatever is in my way, and that's such a strong thing to realise.'

Liverpool postpone pre-season return following death of forward Diogo Jota
Liverpool have cancelled the phased return of players for pre-season training as they continue to mourn the death of forward Diogo Jota. The first group of Arne Slot's squad were scheduled to attend the club's AXA training complex on Friday for the opening round of physical tests after their summer break. Advertisement However, the PA news agency understands that has been postponed as the club deals with the aftermath of the shocking tragedy which saw 28-year-old Jota and his brother Andre Silva killed in a car crash in Spain in the early hours of Thursday. Mourners gathered at a wake in Portugal on Friday morning, ahead of the brothers' funeral at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar in Sao Cosme at 10am on Saturday. Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez said the country had lost 'one of its heroes'. 'We feel the family's pain and, in this tragedy, we question life in general,' he said in a video released by the Portuguese Football Federation. Advertisement 'We have created a family in the national team that goes far beyond football and Diogo is an important part of that – on and off the field. 'Portugal will miss one of its heroes.' Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said everyone associated with the club owed it to Jota to 'stand together and be there for one another'. Our lad from Portugal. Forever ❤️ — Liverpool FC (@LFC) July 3, 2025 'For us as a club, the sense of shock is absolute. Diogo was not just our player. He was a loved one to all of us. He was a team-mate, a colleague, a workmate and in all of those roles he was very special. Advertisement 'We need everyone at the club to stand together and to be there for one another. We owe this to Diogo, to Andre Silva, to their wider family and to ourselves.' Jota's team-mates have spoken of the struggle to comprehend his death, with captain Virgil van Dijk writing on Instagram he was 'absolutely devastated and in total disbelief'. 'What a human being, what a player, but most importantly what an unbelievable family man,' he added. 'A champion forever, number 20 forever. It's been a privilege to have stood by your side on the pitch, and to have been your friend off it. Advertisement Andy Robertson, who attended Jota's wedding to long-term partner Rute Cardoso less than a fortnight ago, posted: 'I can't believe we're saying goodbye. It's too soon, and it hurts so much. But thank you for being in my life, mate – and for making it better.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Andrew Robertson (@andyrobertson94) 'Heartbroken' former manager Jurgen Klopp, for whom his Christian faith has played a big part in his life, wrote on Instagram: 'This is a moment where I struggle! There must be a bigger purpose! But I can't see it!' Liverpool, who are supporting Jota's family, have opened a book of condolence, both physical in the Anfield Road Stand and online, lowered flags to half-mast and closed all stores and the museum and suspended all tours until Monday. Fans continue to leave flowers, scarves and shirts at a makeshift shrine outside Anfield and there are similar scenes at Wolves' Molineux Stadium, where he spent three years before his move to Liverpool. Caitlyn Jenner inundated with condolences after Sophia Hutchins' shock death aged 29
Caitlyn Jenner has been flooded with messages of condolences after news broke that her best friend and manager Sophia Hutchins died in a tragic quad bike accident. Hutchins died aged 29 after she plunged 350ft down a cliff near the reality star's Malibu home, it was revealed Thursday. It is believed that her ATV struck the bumper of a moving car and was thrown down a ravine. First responders pronounced Hutchins dead at the scene. The two individuals in the car struck by Hutchins and the ATV were not injured. At the time of writing, it is not yet known if Caitlyn witnessed Hutchins' crash or was at home at the time of the tragedy on Wednesday. In the hours that have followed the news of Hutchins' shock death, social media users have inundated Caitlyn with condolences. Commenting underneath a picture of the former Olympian's L'Équipe magazine cover from July 2024, which is pinned to the top of her Instagram profile, one said: 'I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear loved one Sophia.' 'Very, very, very sorry for your loss,' added another. A third wrote: 'Sorry to hear about Sophia. She was too young to go.' Echoing a similar sentiment, another said: 'Deepest condolences to you and all the families of Sophia.' 'My heart is hurting for you right now!' a fifth continued. 'Hugs and prayers.' Hutchins, like Caitlyn, was transgender and cited her as the inspiration for coming out in college back in 2016. In 2017, she moved into Jenner's $3.5 million Malibu mansion and began working as the star's manager, taking over the role from Jenner's ex-wife Kris Jenner, 69, after their 2015 divorce. Hutchins was Jenner's confidant for over a decade after the celebrated Olympian, 75, came out as a transgender woman in 2015. She met Caitlyn that year and appeared in multiple episodes of the television documentary series I Am Cait, a spin-off of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Despite living under one roof, Hutchins previously told The New York Times that they 'were never romantically involved,' insisting it was all about work and friendship. 'Caitlyn is a parent to me. I have said that a million times. It is a parental, familial relationship,' she said. Social media users have inundated Caitlyn with condolences In 2020, Hutchins posed for an online ad campaign for Kim Kardashian's highly successful clothing line SKIMS. She was particularly close to Kris Jenner, speaking to her regularly, and also had a good relationship with Jenner's daughters Kendall, 29, and Kylie, 27. The siblings once gave Hutchins a stunning heart-shaped diamond necklace for Christmas. 'I'm on good terms with all the family, but I'm closest with Kris, Kim, Kylie and Kendall', she said. Hutchins' last public appearance with Caitlyn was in 2024 when she accompanied the reality star to the April 2024 White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, D.C. Like Caitlyn, Hutchins was a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. Last year, Hutchins had the opportunity to meet the billionaire. At the time, she uploaded a photo of herself beaming beside Trump in front of an American flag with the caption: 'The energy, passion, and commitment for our movement to Save America has never been greater! We will never give up.' In January of this year, Hutchins uploaded a photo of herself and Jenner celebrating Trump's inauguration with Judge Jeanine Pirro and other MAGA superstars to Instagram. Hutchins wasn't very active on social media in recent months. She last posted what would be her final Instagram post in April and showed fans a broken candelabra that had been repaired.

Breakfast legend returns to BBC daytime for the first time four years after quitting sofa
A BREAKFAST legend has returned to BBC daytime for the first time four years after quitting the sofa. The presenter previously fronted the corporation's flagship morning show for nine years. 4 Louise Minchin returned to BBC daytime Credit: BBC 4 She appeared on Morning Live with Gaby Roslin and Rav Wilding Credit: BBC Louise Minchin, 56, became a regular anchor on BBC Breakfast in 2012 when she hosted the programme for three days a week. Initially she sat on the red sofa alongside the likes of Bill Turnbull and Charlie Stayt, 63. This was before she established a regular partnership with Dan Walker, 48, who now presents the news on 5. In June 2021, she announced she was leaving the show after 20 years on air before making her final departure in September. Now the star returned to daytime broadcasting on BBC One as she made an appearance on Morning Live. Gaby Roslin, 60, and Rav Wilding, 47, introduced the star as a 'consumer expert'. She appeared on the main rival to ITV's This Morning to give her take on the drop in car insurance costs. This comes after bosses at the publicly funded corporation chose Louise to replace Angela Rippon on Rip Off Britain. The TV personality was sat on the kitchen island alongside the likes of Dr Kiran Morjaria and gardener Mark Lane. Gaby took to her Instagram grid page as she revelled in the company of the broadcast veteran. BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt forced to pull live broadcast after 'dead dog' shown on-screen She could be seen pushing Louise who swung on one of the show's plush swivel chairs in the brightly lit studio. She captioned the video: "Good morning everyone. Pre show shenanigans here @bbcmorninglive with @louiseminchin and we are so ready to spin around on this Friday morning." Before she took to the airwaves, Naga Munchetty and Charlie fronted the Friday edition of BBC Breakfast amid growing tensions. It has previously been revealed the show's editor Richard Frediani, has taken an extended period of leave amid claims of bullying. Who are the current presenters of BBC Breakfast? The flagship BBC show has had dozens of presenters during its impressive 40 years on air but the current stars are: Jon Kay - Since 2022 Sally Nugent - Since 2021 Charlie Stayt - Since 2006 Naga Munchetty - Since 2014 Carol Kirkwood - Since 1997 Naga, 50, is said to be at the 'end of her tether' with Frediani and the fractious working environment. She was also alleged to have used a slang term for a sexual act off-air in separate damning claims. A BBC spokesperson previously said: "While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values. "We have robust processes in place and would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them directly with us so they can be addressed.' The fresh claims emerged as Beeb bosses urged any member of staff with concerns to raise them. 4 The presenter was introduced as a 'consumer expert' as she now fronts Rip Off Britain Credit: BBC
