Watch Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime Show in Dolby Atmos on Apple Music

Yahoo15-02-2025
One of the coolest technological advancements that happened for Super Bowl LIX, was the broadcast being available with both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. After 4K and HDR was added in recent years to improve the visual presentation and take advantage of newer TV technology (even if it is, in reality, a 1080p signal being upscaled with professional-grade equipment), the inclusion of spatial audio steps up the auditory immersiveness for those with a Dolby soundbar or discrete Dolby-capable speaker setup. Hopefully this signals a future where more live TV includes spatial audio presentations.
While getting the entire Super Bowl broadcast with Dolby Vision and Atmos is a great step forward, it was only available for Comcast subscribers that had the proper equipment. But Apple Music has made the full 13:21-long Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show available on the Music app in spatial audio (which makes sense considering the Halftime Show was officially the Super Bowl LIX Apple Music Haltime Show). The Atmos mix isn't groundbreaking in its use of sonic placement, but when the camera moves as much as it did during the performance, it's of utmost importance to keep the performers front and center aurally so there's a central focus.
The mix certainly succeeds when it comes to that. With Kendrick Lamar and SZA's vocals clearly in font, the instrumentation could expand primarily out to the sides (at times it spreads behind the listener), while audience sounds filled out behind and above. There was a moment 11:47 in when Kendrick Lamar is surrounded by his dancers as they start marching, and the you can hear it coming from all around you. It was an effective use of the sound mix.
Apple Music includes a play list of the full Halftime Show set — squabble up, HUMBLE., DNA., euphoria, man at the garden, peekaboo (feat. AzChike), luther, All The Stars, Not Like Us, and tv off (feat. Lefty Gunplay) — all available to stream in Dolby Atmos with head tracking (if using compatible headphones or earbuds). In addition, there's the official full 30-minute interview with Kendrick Lamar, Ebro Darden, and Nadeska from before the performance.

Take The Stand! UMG Wants To Subpoena Drake & Kendrick Lamar In ‘Not Like Us' Lawsuit

The civil lawsuit filed by Drake against Universal Music Group (UMG) is underway, with both sides now submitting lists of potential witnesses. In a move that's raising eyebrows across the industry, UMG has notably called for both Drake and his most recent rival, Kendrick Lamar, to testify in court during Drizzy's 'Not Like Us' civil lawsuit. Source: Mark Blinch/MICHAEL TRAN / Getty Drake initially filed his lawsuit against UMG in January 2025, accusing the music giant of knowingly defaming him. His complaint centers on Kendrick Lamar's hit diss track, 'Not Like Us,' which famously refers to Drake as a 'child predator.' Drake alleges that UMG not only distributed this song but also promoted it through 'illegal means.' UMG, for its part, has vehemently denied these claims, asserting that the notion they would 'seek to harm the reputation of any artist — let alone Drake — is illogical.' They have also been actively pushing for the judge to dismiss the case entirely. Despite their efforts, the lawsuit continues to move forward. 'Plaintiff, one of the most successful recording artists of all time, lost a rap battle that he provoked and in which he willingly participated,' UMG's lawyers write in the filing. 'Instead of accepting the loss like the unbothered rap artist he often claims to be, he has sued his own record label in a misguided attempt to salve his wounds.' The legal chess match intensified on Monday, July 14. According to XXL Mag , both sides presented their lists of individuals who could potentially be subpoenaed to testify. Drake's legal team submitted a sprawling list of 63 individuals and entities, signaling a wide-ranging inquiry into how 'Not Like Us' gained traction and its impact. Drake's extensive list of potential witnesses includes the rapper himself, as well as top industry executives such as UMG CEO Lucian Grange, Interscope marketing president Steve Berman, and Republic Records CEO Monte Lipman. His legal team is also seeking information from major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, YouTube, SoundCloud, and TikTok. Furthermore, entities connected to Lamar's Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show performance, such as the NFL and Roc Nation, are also on Drake's radar. Drake's lawyers are seemingly aiming to uncover any alleged 'covert tactics to promote the Defamatory Material.' Notably, Drake's team has listed Kojo Menne Asamoah, whom they claim used such tactics, but they have been unable to locate or serve him despite hiring private investigators. In stark contrast to Drake's extensive list, UMG has filed a considerably shorter list containing just nine names. However, the inclusion of two specific names on UMG's list has captured everyone's attention: Drake himself and Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick Lamar's manager, Anthony Saleh, is also named. This move is particularly significant because Lamar is not listed as a defendant in the lawsuit. UMG's lawyers argue that Lamar 'is likely to have discoverable information concerning the creation of the recording, image, and video and the distribution and promotion of the recording and video.' The legal teams' strategies hint at a high-stakes courtroom showdown. While Drake claims the lawsuit is about UMG profiting from 'dangerous misinformation' and 'artificially inflat[ing]' the song's popularity, UMG maintains Drake is simply 'weaponiz[ing] the legal process to silence an artist's creative expression' after 'losing a rap battle.' Mariah Carey teases new album drop

Mariah Carey is getting ready to announce her new album. The release will be her long-awaited follow-up album to 2018's Caution. Various industry sources have speculated that it will arrive on 21 July. Carey teased the news on social media over the weekend. Just a day after previewing a new song called Sugar Sweet, the singer dropped another hint - this time for her new LP. At the very end of the 37-second clip, the text "MC16" appears. Her post on X featuring the clip shows the title "MC16 - Announcement Tomorrow". Although details are scarce, last month the pop star did confirm that her new album is complete. "What is next? The album coming out. I don't wanna tell too much about it because I just don't want to reveal the whole thing. It's finished," she revealed in an Apple Music interview in June. Carey released Type Dangerous in June. She then uploaded a sneak peek of the light pop track Sugar Sweet, playing in a cute clip of herself baking in the kitchen, on Saturday. Carey has to date released 15 studio albums, two soundtrack albums, seven compilation albums, four extended plays, and one remix album. She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 200 million records sold globally.

GloRilla Turns Up Indianapolis With Fiery 2025 WNBA All-Star Game Halftime Show Performance

GloRilla brought her Memphis tenacity to Indianapolis as she headlined the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game Halftime Show on Saturday night (July 19) with a dynamic performance. Introduced by ESPN's Elle Duncan, Chiney Ogwumike and Andraya Carter, Big Glo hit the stage in a custom one-of-one Gatorade letterman jacket. It was inscribed with an homage to her 'Let Her Cook' hit across the back, along with the signature Gatorade towel in the hood area. Glo and her team of dancers then took the show to center court while the WNBA All-Stars remained on the sidelines to take in the performance, which had the group going crazy. Stars Brittney Sykes and Angel Reese were hyped up and loving Big Glo's energy, as they sang along to just about every word. The 25-year-old Memphis native finished off the halftime show with her Sexyy Red-assisted 'WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME,' which is certified platinum by the RIAA and peaked inside the Billboard Hot 100's top 20. Glo's music has been part of the in-arena broadcast as hits like 'Hollon' have been played throughout the Fieldhouse during timeouts. BIA was also part of the All-Star Game, setting the tone of the night with her 'We On Go' performance during pre-game player introductions. Next up for GloRilla, she'll keep the party going into the heat of the summer when she hosts her inaugural Glo Bash next Friday (July 25) at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, which boasts performances from Rob 49 and Muni Long. With Team Clark down two starters, including hometown hero Caitlin Clark, Team Collier has built a comfortable 20-plus point cushion in the second half of the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game and should be able to coast to victory and hoist the trophy, barring a disaster.
