Houthi militia release video footage of attack and sinking of 'Eternity C' cargo vessel in Red Sea
The video, which was made public yesterday, showed the Liberian-flagged, Greek-operated ship sustaining heavy damage before sinking to the depths of the ocean.
The cargo ship was reportedly targeted with sea drones and multiple cruise and ballistic missiles, according to Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, as per the Times of Israel.
Video footage shows the ship's bridge heavily damaged, with oil leaking from the vessel.
In an intercepted radio exchange, the ship's captain is heard refusing Houthi orders to stop, insisting the vessel was travelling through international waters. Shortly after, explosions rocked the vessel.
The ship took on water from holes along its waterline before sinking beneath the oceanic waves, with the fighters heard chanting: 'God is the greatest; death to America; death to Israel; curse the Jews; victory to Islam.'
Over 25 people were onboard the vessel, when the attack took place. Ten have been rescued, including four survivors, who were pulled from the sea today, while four others — three Filipinos and one Russian — were killed.
A wounded crew member reportedly lost his leg, according to Operation Aspides, the EU's naval mission in the region. The Iran-backed militia claim to have taken some survivors to a 'safe location", which US officials have condemned as kidnapping.
This marks the second Houthi attack on commercial shipping this week. On July 6, the militia struck and sank the 'Magic Seas', another Liberian-flagged, Greek-operated cargo ship.
Footage released by the group shows masked fighters storming the vessel and detonating explosives. All 22 crew members were safely rescued.
Both ships had connections to Israel through past port calls, though neither was Israeli-owned.
The Houthis said the attacks were carried out as part of its retributions for Israel's war in Gaza, and stated that all vessels linked to Israel or its allies are legitimate targets.
'The naval force of the Yemeni Armed Forces targeted the ship Eternity C… in support of Palestinians in Gaza,' Saree said.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have launched more than 100 attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, primarily with drones and missiles.
The campaign briefly paused in late 2024 during a ceasefire in Gaza, but resumed following renewed fighting in 2025 and the recent US airstrikes on Iranian targets.
At early morning today, the Houthis also claimed to have launched a ballistic missile at Israel's Ben Gurion Airport, which was intercepted by Israeli defences. The incident triggered air raid sirens across central Israel.
US officials have warned the rebels against further disruption of maritime security. 'These attacks demonstrate the ongoing threat that Iran-backed Houthi rebels pose to freedom of navigation,' said the US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
'We will continue to take necessary action to protect commercial shipping from Houthi terrorist attacks.'

End Ukraine war or face 100 pc tariffs: Trump tells Russia
Washington, July 15 (UNI) Frustrated with Russian President Vladimir Putin for not ending the war with Ukraine, President Donald Trump today said that the US will impose 100 per cent tariffs on countries that do business with Russia if there is no peace deal to end the war in Ukraine within 50 days. During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office, Trump said, "We're going to be doing secondary tariffs if we don't have a deal within 50 days. It's very simple, And they'll be at 100 per cent." "We are very unhappy, I am, with Russia," the President explained. Trump reiterated that he had called up Putin several times. "I always hang up and say, 'Well, that was a nice phone call.' And then missiles are launched into Kyiv or some other city, and I say, 'That's strange.' And after that happens three or four times, you say the talk doesn't mean anything," he said. "He is, I don't want to say he's an assassin, but he's a tough guy," Trump said of Putin, adding, "but he didn't fool me." "Ultimately, talk doesn't work; it's got to be action, it's got to be results," Trump said. "It's actually more now, mostly soldiers but a lot of people in cities and towns that are getting blown up to it's a horrible war and it should be stopped. And so if it's not done, if we don't have an agreement in 50 days, that's what we're doing secondary tariffs and they're biting and I hope we don't get to the point where we do, but I I've been hearing so much talk. It's all talk. It's all talk and then missiles go into Kyiv and kill 60 people. It's got to stop," Trump said. The execution of Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse facing the death penalty in Yemen, has been postponed, sources told TOI on Tuesday. The 38-year-old from Kerala's Palakkad district remains imprisoned in Sanaa, Yemen's capital, which is controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi group. Last-minute efforts to save Priya's life were initiated by prominent Sunni cleric Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar, who reached out to religious authorities in Yemen. Sufi scholar Sheikh Habib Umar bin Hafiz is now leading negotiations with the victim's family. Talks are taking place in Dhamar, the hometown of the deceased, Talal Abdo Mahdi. 'The agreement of the family to even speak with representatives of Sheikh Habib Umar gives us hope,' a source told PTI. A close relative of the deceased, who also holds senior positions in the Yemeni judiciary and Shura Council, has reportedly agreed to attend the talks at the advice of the Sufi scholar. Attorney General R Venkataramani told the Supreme Court on Monday that the government was doing its utmost under the circumstances. 'Yemen is not even diplomatically recognised. It's very complex,' he said, adding that India had written to the public prosecutor to request a deferral of the execution. What was the case? According to Yemeni court records, Nimisha Priya allegedly drugged and murdered Mahdi in July 2017, with the help of another nurse, before dismembering his body and disposing of the remains in an underground tank. She was convicted in 2020 and her final appeal was dismissed in 2023. The case revolves around a business dispute. Priya had partnered with Mahdi to open a clinic in Sanaa in 2015, as Yemeni law requires local sponsorship for foreigners to run businesses. Activists argue she was a victim of war and never received proper legal defence due to the ongoing civil conflict. Who is Nimisha Priya? Nimisha Priya is a nurse from Kollengode in Kerala. She moved to Yemen in search of better work opportunities and later tried to establish her own clinic. Her supporters say she endured severe abuse and exploitation, and that the murder was the result of prolonged trauma. An international campaign group, Save Nimisha Priya, continues to work to raise the required 'blood money' under Sharia law to secure her release. The Supreme Court is expected to hear further updates on July 18.
