An East Lothian van burst into flames on a major Scottish road on Sunday afternoon (June 29).
Fire crews raced to the scene of the fire, which took place on the A1 near Haddington's Oak Tree junction at around 2pm. It is understood that the road was closed off to other motorists while emergency services attended.
A video seen by Edinburgh Live showed the van engulfed in flames as black smoke plumed into the sky.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a call just before 1:55 this afternoon. It was a van on fire and we had two appliances in attendance."
Traffic Scotland said: "Gladsmuir - Haddington (S/B)
"Road temporarily CLOSED due a vehicle fire. Police and Fire services are attending the scene.
"Please use an alternative route and expect longer journey times. Further updates to come."

Elsewhere in the area, queues were building on the Edinburgh Bypass. From around 2pm, two lanes were restricted eastbound between Gilmerton Junction and Sheriffhall Roundabout.

Heart-stopping moment Edinburgh lorry and car crash on busy roundabout

The incident is understood to have took place at the roundabout on Straiton Junction at around 12pm on Thursday, June 26, 2025. Footage was seemingly captured by a nearby vehicle as it entered the roundabout. The video shows a flatbed lorry beside an bronze Audi in lanes approaching the Straiton junction. As the two vehicles enter the intersection, the collision takes place. The Audi can be seen skidding upon impact. It then veers off onto the side of the road after the collision. Similarly, the truck comes to a halt following the crash, appearing to pause in the middle of the road. The car filming with its dash cam drives past the orange Audi and both vehicles are gone from the frame. The video wracked up nearly 4,000 views on YouTube and was posted to social media.
