'I'm the new Superman – here's how I spent my last hour of anonymity'
What's that in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a new Superman movie that's about to land in cinemas across the UK.
Superman is the first film in James Gunn's new shared superhero universe and hopes to usher in a new era for Clark Kent and his super friends.
Which brings us to the new Superman himself, David Corenswet. The 31-year-old had just one hour between finding out he'd scored the biggest job of his life and the world finding out. So, how did he spend it?
'Oh, I just played solitaire by myself and panicked quietly,' David laughed while speaking to Metro about that fateful s60 minutes on the red carpet at London's Superman Fan Event.
'No, I had the opportunity to tell about six or seven people who I was close to, and just kind of relished in this one hour where I had a big secret that nobody else knew about,' he continued.
'It's a rare moment in life, so I tried to be present with it, and not be too overwhelmed.'

'I got to tell my wife and a couple of family members, and then just sat in a chair and waited for the news to break.'
Thankfully, once David's not-so-secret identity had been exposed, he could rely on other actors who've slipped into Superman's red Speedos for advice.
'I was lucky enough to exchange letters with Tyler Hoechlin and Henry Cavill, two fellas who have played Superman before me,' David explained.
'They said, 'You know, there's not much advice that we can give. You know, you sort of have to do your own thing.'
'But it was really wonderful to get words of encouragement from them, and then to be able to write to them and talk about how appreciative I was of the way that they had stewarded the character in their time. That was a special experience.'
Superman will eschew the traditional origin story and instead introduce us to a Clark Kent (David Corenswet) who's been battling bad guys for years and is already in a relationship with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). More Trending
Unfortunately, this means Superman has had time to make more than a few enemies, including Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), who has a plan to bring the Man of Tomorrow down to Earth.
Will he succeed? Well, you'll have to fly over to your local cinema to find out.

It's been 16 years since the most 'disturbing' Doctor Who story ever
If you're reading this, you're likely a big Doctor Who fan and who can blame you? The iconic British sci-fi show has been on the box for 61 years now, charming viewers across the world with its colourful characters, creative stories, and wonky special effects (and it's showing no signs of slowing down, with the recent series fronted by Ncuti Gatwa having an episode described as the best in years). Yet while Doctor Who is nominally a family show, the series does have a reputation for being surprisingly scary when it wants to be. There are episodes where gas mask-wearing zombies swarm across London, companions have been chopped into bits and turned into Cybermen, and who could forget the Weeping Angels? Still, as terrifying as these Doctor Who stories are, there's one tale that's so terrifying it left viewers 'traumatised'. The story in question is called The Children of Earth, and it was told in the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. The Children of Earth was Torchwood's third season, and it saw Captain Jack Harkness and his team defending the Earth against a new alien threat called the 456. The 456 weren't invading aliens like the Daleks or Cybermen, though; they were far more insidious. These strange creatures came to our planet not to conquer but because they wanted our most valuable resource. So what were they after? Our children, of course. Specifically, they wanted 10% of the Earth's children or all life on Earth would be wiped out. What makes this premise so horrifying isn't just the fact that it involves children; it's the reason these strangers from another world want the kids. They don't need the children to survive; they want them because the chemicals in the children allow the 456 to get high. But surely the Doctor will arrive to save the day? Sorry, it's not that type of story. To say Children of Earth is darker than a goth's favourite pair of black jeans doesn't do it justice. It's a genuinely grim story that explores some really dark themes and ideas that I can't explain here without requiring a trigger warning or six – but they touch on governmental abuse of power, exploitation of children, and that old favourite of first-year philosophy students the world over, utilitarianism. Don't take my word for it, though, the fans agree with me. One reviewer on IMDB wrote that Children of Earth is 'one serious, intense bit of drama!' On Rotten Tomatoes – where the series has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score – reviewers have written that this is 'easily the best Torchwood Season with great emotional scenes' while another added it's 'the best-written serial of a television show I have ever seen'. It's an enjoyable mini-series, filled with humour, good acting, and a brilliant plot. It's bloody excellent.' Hollywood heavyweight crashes Black Sabbath mosh pit at last ever gig

Lead singer Ozzy Osbourne, 76, was overwhelmed with emotion as he took to the stage one last time at Villa Park in Birmingham. The Back to the Beginning show has been one of the hottest tickets this year, marking both the end and the first time the group had played together in 20 years. Ahead of Ozzy's entrance, metal icons like Metallica and Slayer took to the stage but it was another familiar face who captured fans attention. During Pantera's set, Jason Momoa burst from beside the stage and beelined straight for the growing mosh pit. The Game of Thrones star climbed over the barrier and got stuck in as he fist-bumped fans who wildly jumped around him. We're assuming Aquaman could hold his own but the camera didn't show him leaving the mosh pit at any point. Fan videos flooded social media, with Jason, 45, visible on the big screen before the camera panned back to the stage. Kornymoon on X posted: 'Jason Mamoa a real metalhead! Walked into the center of the pit to mosh with the crowd.' 'I'm a diehard Lana Del Rey fan - everyone's wrong about her new tour'
As the whole of Wembley Stadium screamed the lyrics of Ride back to Lana Del Rey, there was a euphoric sense of catharsis in the air – this was the point of live music. Alongside a handful of other artists, the 40-year-old music artist has soundtracked my adolescence and early adulthood. The melody of Summertime Sadness takes me back to sunny days spent with my sisters. Dark Paradise and Carmen became the anthem of my own indie pop-themed teen crash-out about the existential point of it all . Norman F**king Rockwell! came out in my first year of university as I discovered the world on my own for the first time, threaded together with the backing music of Lana's ethereal notes In recent years, Lana's Did You Know There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard and A&W perfectly capture the essence of childhood nostalgia mixed with the relentless dread of growing older, and all the messiness that it entails. I tried to watch Lana for the first time in February 2020 – I think we can all guess how that one ended. So, this was attempt number two. I'm not naive. I've heard the stories of the Born to Die hitmakers' poor stage etiquette – notoriously showing up late, singing off her phone, and disappointing fans with the short show lengths. Still, when I first saw the poor reviews rolling in for her UK and Ireland stadium tour (complaints of a poor setlist and underwhelming 90-minute performance) I was still gutted and bracing myself for disappointment. The Christian preacher we walked past on the stroll from Wembley Park station to the entrance, warning us of the hellfire that awaited, felt weirdly prescient. And I would be lying if I said I had much interest in TikTok sensation turned debut pop star Addison Rae (who was opening for Lana as well as featuring in her set). When she strolled onto stage five minutes early, I breathed a sigh of relief. The rest of the set proved just how wrong people had been. Not only did Lana look a vision on stage, leaning into her familiar old Hollywood aesthetic, but her stage set-up (a tree-adorned home) felt fitting in its beauty and simplicity. Then, of course, came the music. Ultimately, when it came down to it, belting out the lyrics to Venice B**ch, Ultraviolence, Summertime Sadness, Video Games and Young and Beautiful alongside thousands of others made the whole experience worth it. Her strength has always been in the way her music connects with her audience, and the unique husk of her voice that imbues an added gravitas to her songs. It's clear she cared about the audience experience as well, commenting on her attempts to make the sounds as high quality as possible between songs. Even her duet with Addison Rae, Diet Pepsi, ended up being a hoot. Of course, there is no denying that the show still felt short and – given it was her first stadium tour – lengthening her setlist to cover more of her songs (including some wildcards) would have elevated this to a five-star experience. Especially as she no longer had a new album to promote, given its unexpected delay. My friends and I spent the whole day (July 4) anticipating she would sing National Anthem as a nod to American Independence Day to no avail. More Trending It also felt cheeky to have a pre-recorded projection sing some of her songs when so many had paid a lot to experience her vocals live. When compared to the theatrics brought by Taylor Swift, Beyonce, hey, even newcomers like Olivia Rodrigo – perhaps there was more scope for Lana to use the stage to create a larger-than-life performance. In the end, the highs by far outweighed the lows and if my biggest note was that I simply wished there was more – then I'll take it as a win. Got a story?
